Not to be missed was a fashion
show by our students and teachers.
Students cat walked on stage showing
off their traditional costumes like the
Sari, Baju Kurong and Cheongsam.
Soon it was the teachers’ turn to strut
their stuff. They all wore traditional
costumes as well but one costume
drew the loudest applause; it was the
one worn by Mr Umar Wong. He
wore an amazingly bright, yellow cos-
tume of an emperor with a unique
headdress. The whole school was
laughing and cheering for him. We
had a most enjoyable and memorable
fashion show.
We were next treated to a skilful
Wushu demonstration by seven Fern-
vale Primary School students. The mi-
nute the students got on stage, every-
one was thrilled by their flexibility,
strength and concentration. It was
amazing to watch their many stunts
with their swords.
Next was the Malay dance perfor-
mance by Bedok Green Primary
School. Attired in their bright and col-
ourful clothes, their graceful moves
won the hearts of many in the audi-
ence.
On 15 July, our school celebrated
Racial Harmony Day in the morning.
Our emcees for the day introduced the
first performers from the “Singapore
Indian Fine Arts Society.” The instru-
ments being played in the perfor-
mance were the Sitar, Violin, Tabla and
the Mridangam. They performed four
of the most interesting pieces that we
have ever heard.

Famously recognised better as Finn Hudson from
Glee, Cory Monteith passed away from a “mixed
toxicity of heroin and alcohol”. He passed away on
13 July at around noon, at the Fairmont Pacific Rim
Hotel in Vancouver. His girlfriend, Lea Michele
who plays Rachel Berry in Glee, has been mourn-
ing and grieving alongside his family and friends.
Yes! They were dating out of the show, resembling
their counterparts! Lea and Cory were engaged and
were supposed to tie the knot in two weeks, but then disaster struck. His most fa-
mous performances were “Don’t Stop Believing”, “Just the Way You Are”, “Man in
the Mirror” and “Losing My Religion”. It was a sad day for all the ‘Gleeks’ and he
will definitely be dearly missed!
“I think it’s important to be responsible for your actions because you will hurt more
than yourself, especially those around you, and don’t waste your life.” -Eliana
During their ‘Take Me Home’ tour in Illinois, when One Direction finished the song
entitled ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, Harry was wiping perspiration off his forehead with a
towel but accidentally went too close to the pyrotechnic decorations. Unfortunately,
his towel caught fire, sending his globally famous chocolate curls into flames! Lucki-
ly, Zayn came to his rescue and assisted his friend in extinguishing the fire before the
fiery backdrop engulfed his hair. After that, they played their cool and pretended
nothing had happened.
“I think that presence of mind is so important.” - Eliana
Selena Gomez admitted to Ryan Seacrest that her song
“Way Stressed Out” is about her and Justin Bieber’s
breakup. Selena usually keeps mum about her relationships,
but she shared her feelings with the American Idol host,
saying that she was deeply stressed by her breakup. Most
“Selenators” and “Beliebers” who supported their relation-
ship, christened them “Jelena”, are now broken up on their
breakup. We do hope things work out between the two!
“Everyone goes through breakups but just don’t do any-
thing stupid.” - Eliana

Conversation with the Principal, Miss Susie Ho
Me: What is the push factor that gets
you to SJC every morning?
Ms Ho: To see the girls and their smiles.
Me: What makes you happy?
Ms Ho: Seeing the girls happy makes
me happy.
Me: What do you do in your leisure
time?
Ms Ho: I like dogs so I spend time with
them.
Me: Who or what do you value most?
Ms Ho: I value human relationships.
Interview with Mr Umar Wong
Me: What made you want to come to Singa-
pore?
Mr Wong: I came to Singapore because it
was so far away from my homeland (UK)
and the weather here I heard was great. Fur-
thermore, the main reason was also because
I wanted to come around the Southeast
Asian region which is considered by many
to be very interesting.
Me: What is the push factor that gets you to
SJC every morning?
Mr Wong: The push factor is that I love in-
teracting with the girls; they’re really intelli-
gent.
Me: What are your thoughts about SJC?
Mr Wong: I love SJC and I am going to be
staying on in the near future.
A chat with Miss Claire Yong, ex-SJC student Me: What is the push factor for you to come back to SJC?
Miss Yong: When I graduated, I was rather relieved but after going through
JC and university, I realised I miss SJC’s environment, my best friends and
the teachers here.
Me: Would you send your daughter to SJC in future, and will you teach in
SJC if you have the chance to do so?
Miss Yong: I will think about it.
