An ice-breaker activity for the start of the academic yearTRANSCRIPT
AN ICE-BREAKER ACTIVITYCALL MY BLUFF
• The teacher says he is going to tell his students ten sentences about his life.
• Three of the sentences are false and the students’ task is to spot the lies.
• When a lie is detected, the teacher says why it is a lie, providing more listening practice.
AN ICE-BREAKER ACTIVITYCALL MY BLUFF
• When you have finished your talk about your own biography, ask your students to do the same.
• Once they have finished writing their sentences, pair them off.
• Students call out their sentences to their partner, who has “to call his bluff”
• Pair them off a couple of times.

• As the groups are usually very big (twenty-five students or more) then ask them to make their presentation in Power Point format.
• That way, the rest of the group can read the texts of everyone in the class and take part in a whole-group activity.
