CHILD STATUS INDEX

The CSI was developed in response to the request by PEPFAR, OGAC and OHA to assess vulnerabilities, needs and desired outcomes for OVCs.

It is used in Ethiopia, Rwanda, India, Cambodia and Swaziland.

It measures and produces in a simple way, based on a standardized evaluation form, a status index which is expressed as:

1 = Very Bad 2 = Bad 3 = Fair 4= Good

For the following Domains:

JRT Functionality

Page 45: An Innovative Model for Funding Holistic Child Development within an HIV and AIDS pandemic SATS Edenvale Conference 13 May 2011

What This Means

• It is technically possible by relying on virtual support clusters to mobilize resources to fund care cycles and development plans at individual, household, cluster and village level.

• The use of business information management systems and business intelligence tools to manage the whole system and process

• An automated administration system can be used to ensure security and efficiency and to cope with complexity

• We therefore scale care-based organisations from 15% to 60%

Page 46: An Innovative Model for Funding Holistic Child Development within an HIV and AIDS pandemic SATS Edenvale Conference 13 May 2011

Opportunity

• Promote good practice• Child Rights Framework• Family Based Care (family care units) UNHRC• Integrated community development• Employment creation• Poverty alleviation• Weave together holistic development • Real opportunity for the Church (Mat 25)

Page 47: An Innovative Model for Funding Holistic Child Development within an HIV and AIDS pandemic SATS Edenvale Conference 13 May 2011

Page 49: An Innovative Model for Funding Holistic Child Development within an HIV and AIDS pandemic SATS Edenvale Conference 13 May 2011

Some Risks

• Building a Rolls Royce engine with 4 wheel drive capability!

• Technical sustainability• Funding• Manage expectations

Page 50: An Innovative Model for Funding Holistic Child Development within an HIV and AIDS pandemic SATS Edenvale Conference 13 May 2011

It is morally indefensible that we choose to live with problems

that can be solved
