Executive Summary

The internship report is a partial requirement for the Bachelor of Business Administration program.

The report is solely based on my 12 weeks of working experience on Onus Group. I was assigned

in the Head Office. This report is the outcome of my internship period and contains a clear idea

about my activities, learnings and performance during the whole internship period. The

introduction part mostly includes the background, current performance, management team and key

functional areas. This section is very informational because, it is essential for any internee to

recognize the organization before being a part of it. In the report, I have emphasized mostly about

my daily responsibilities and how much I was able to contribute to the organization. I also

highlighted all the work I have done in onus group, and how much it helped me to gain the practical

knowledge of a business sector. Different department engages in totally different activities thus

my learning was different for each. An elaborated details of my communication and attachment

with the employees of the organization is provided in a section.

A brief description of the difficulties faced, expectations from the company and impact of this

internship on my life has been given in the report. The report also includes the methods used to

face difficulties, some expectation that were fulfilled, others were futile. Finally, I have drawnattention towards the findings and recommendations by stating what my corrections could have

been, and try to implement the recommendations or solutions one by one with one step at a time.

SDLC team of Onus Group and Its

Purpose

SDLC team of Onus Group is a combination of an artificial engineer, some computer software

engineer and some MIS person. To better understanding I am going to discuss little about SDLC

which I learned from MIS major courses.

System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

The most effective way to protect information and information systems is to integrate security into

every step of the system development process, from the initiation of a project to develop a system

to its disposition. The multistep process that starts with the initiation, analysis, design, and

implementation, and continues through the maintenance and disposal of the system, is called the

System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). A system development life cycle (SDLC) is a logical

process by which systems analysts, software engineers, programmers, and end-users build

information systems and computer applications to solve business problems and needs. It is

sometimes called an application development life cycle.

Purpose of SDLC Team of Onus Group

Onus Group want to develop their whole system to increase quality and efficiency. That is why

they hire an artificial engineer named Mr. Kais Zaman. To develop whole system of Onus

Group’s SDLC  team use PIECES framework.  The PIECES framework is equally suited to

analyzing both manual and computerized systems and applications.

P  the need to improve performance

I  the need to improve information (and data)

E  the need to improve economics, control costs, or increase profits

C  the need to improve control or security

E  the need to improve efficiency of people and processes

S  the need to improve service to customers, suppliers, partners, employees, etc.

 Onus Group

The Process SDLC team of Onus Group following to increase Quality,

Efficiency and Profitability

When we create a new system, we need to go through a set of steps or processes, which will

make the system more functional and practical. These set of activities are then developed to

“Maintain information systems and software” and is part of System Development Life Cycle.

SDLC consists of following steps:

Chapter Two

My Contribution to Onus Group

My Contribution to SDLC Team

When they recruit me as an intern, HR manager said to me to work with SDLC team because I did

major and minor in both Finance & Accounting and MIS. It was a great opportunity to me to work

with some brilliant person and I did many practical work with them which I was learned from my

MIS minor courses. As a MIS person I had to do initial part of SDLC project which included initial

idea, feasibility study, requirement analysis, system analysis and overall planning. It was great

experience for me and with my supervisor I have done all the above task and made a diagram

which divided the whole project into five phases.

Figure: working process design for SDLC team.

I did scheduling for the SDLC project. For scheduling purpose I had to made PERT chart,

Grant chart and most importantly I had to identify Critical path for the project. I have done all

the task along with my respective supervisor and one of the brightest artificial engineer Mr. Kais

Zaman. For problem analysis I had to take interview different officials of Onus Group and I had

to visit their 10 company. Feasibility analysis also was a crucial part of SDLC project which I have

done very effectively and my supervisor is very happy to get an exact problem and feasibility

analysis.

 Onus Group

My Contribution to others department of (OG)

I already discussed my contribution to SDLC team of Onus Group. Here, I want discuss my overall

contribution to Onus Group. My internship period was only 12 weeks, where my only task was to

serve my team members with utmost support and help them to ease their workload. I was assigned

to this team as an intern, to help them with the overload of their upcoming orders. So, I was taken

on board as a young mind to help the team with the project and also give youth centric ideas and

suggestions.

I was able to learn a lot about the organization culture. As an intern, my main responsibility was

to assist my superior with their work. I have done different kind of work as Intern in OG. I had

different kind of responsibility as an Intern. In summary my responsibilities/contributions were-

Everyday Operations: Consistently kept notes in all the important meetings for my team in  the 12 weeks period. Later on, they would take the necessary details from me or I would have

had to make summaries of the valuable discussions in those meetings and the details of it.

Knowledge Transfer: Onus Group uses old, traditional methods to do their work, and  record-keeping. They have to enter the records into the computer, also in a register book,

which is a waste of both time and resources. Therefore, I designed a new datasheet templatefor record-keeping, which they can print and compile into a single file. The proposal was given

to the management, and they decided to give it a try for one season. I also gained a lot ofcorporate and business knowledge from Onus Group.

Assisting Supervisor: Helped my supervisor write reports and also helped with the  presentations.

Process improvement: Created Scope of work (SOW) for several occasions.

Skill transfer: as my team also followed the old traditional methods, they were stuck with old versions of MS office with limited knowledge. I personally installed new MS Office to

Some of the computers with permission, and then showed them how they could do a lot more

with newer versions. Showed them how to use new tools and commands, make presentations, design datasheets, use access for database management, etc.

 Onus Group

Learnings from My Internship at OG

Over my Internship period I was lucky to learn about different kind things from my superiors. First

of all, I was fulltime involved in the Onus Group’s Merchandising section. I was mainly taken as

an intern to help in this specific order. I got to know how an order is placed from the beginning,

how to start working on it, how to develop garment accessories and how to coordinate with buyers

and suppliers, and follow-up the entire process.

I learned that the sample designs for an order in the new season are sent by the middle of the

previous season. Small sample of fabrics are also sent along with it, so that the merchandisers can

develop and DTM (dye to match) threads and buttons beforehand. Then comes the sample tags,

labels, zippers, inter-linings, etc. Which are also sent for developments and matching. After all the

developments are done, the developed samples are sent back to the buyer for approval. If they

approve, then a bulk production for the accessories are placed based on production schedule. If

disapproved all or some accessories, then the disapproved ones are sent for re-development. This

is done, to eliminate the time lag during the production process. As soon as the fabric arrives into

the company from China, they are sent for production in minimum time. This space time and space.

The production is scheduled in such a way, that it’ll finish 1week before the shipment date. After

finishing and packing of garments, they are sent for third party quality check and inspection to a

company nominated by the buyer. Which takes around 3-4days. The goods are then handed over

to the C&F (Carriers & Forwarders) companies, who then ships the goods to the designated

destination.

I had to communicate with the employees of different departments inside OG and also with

employees in other organizations which brought confidence in me and my communication skill

developed a lot. I also got a lot of advices from my supervisor regarding corporate culture and

behavior. Over the time, I learned different ways to do the work effectively and efficiently without

making mistakes. In summary, the things I have learned are:-

Etc.) In an organization for the first time.

Making Memos: Learned making memos for meetings in an organization. (Made a memo for a meeting of our team with new local representative of foreign buyers) Making SOW: Learned how to make Scope of works (SOW) for an agency.

Personal Development: The project with some foreign customer taught me how to behave with professionalism when dealing with people outside of OG. I learned how to represent

an organization (OG) thorough professional behavior.  Learned how to book an office vehicle through Microsoft outlook.

Had the experience of dealing with new clients.

 Academic and Experiential Learning

Figure: purpose of the internship Program.

Academic Learning

In academic learning, the scope of getting practical knowledge is very narrow. So initially, fresher

may face difficulties to perform the job properly. I also learned how to talk with customers on face

to face, over telephone and also learned how to handle them. I earned confidence to deal with

different types of people in this internship period. I have learned how to talk and behave with

colleagues. I learned how the total MIS system is working, learned many technique in excel, MS

word practically. Before my internship, I had some blur image about the total banking system from

my bookish knowledge but internship program helped me to know a lot about the practical

knowledge about the banking system. As I continued internship, I found a vast difference between

 practical and my bookish knowledge.

Experiential Learning

Through the internship program, most importantly of all I have learnt how to lead a regimented

and disciplined life. In an academic arena, we are often concerned with results but in a professional

arena, I have learned that every time people have to be extremely aware for each and every task

they are responsible for. I have also suited to a tight schedule of working from morning to evening.

All official activities must have to be done through a proper and systematic way. One of the most

important things is that I have learned to cope up with team work. To run a organization

successfully, all the employers and employees have to work as a team.

10

Page 17: AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON ONUS GROUP

Onus Group

Interaction with Supervisor and

Coworkers

I had to work on under three supervisor in my whole internship period. I started my internship

under Mr. Badal who is an excellent man and dynamic leader. 1st

two week I was worked under

him. After that I had to join SDLC team and my supervisor was Mr. Kais Zaman who is an artificial

engineer. I also worked under Mr. Moinul, relationship manager of Onus Group.

From my superiors, I have learned many things regarding behavior in an organization. From one

of my supervisors, I learned how to listen to others and communicate in return. He is very good in

communicating with others. From others, I had learned dedication towards works. I learned how

to follow up with work. In addition, I also learned that I need to give respect, value to others to

make a good network of relationships. These behavioral learning will surely prove to be great

weapons in my arsenal.

As of doing internship in an organization, one should keep in mind that his superior is more

advanced and experienced in every aspect from him and behave accordingly. Sometimes, it might

be perceived that one can be much better in some aspects of the work than their superiors, but in

reality it is the opposite. If one observes carefully, then it can be seen that one’s superior is much

more educated, experienced, and talented than he is. They know how to do the works better in

addition to knowing all the details of the work.

Worked on SDLC team was a great opportunity for me. I have learned how to plan, analyze, and

solve a problem. Feasibility analysis is an important things which learned from my supervisor. I

had to draw PERT chart and find out critical path along with my supervisor for SDLC project. My

supervisor in SDLC team Mr. Kais Zaman teach me how to think differently and how to apply

strategy to develop a system to make it more efficient.

The last week in Onus Group was quite emotional for me. I met everyone for the last time on the

last day and all of them wished me good luck for my future. I felt sad the whole day and the thought

of this being the last day made me feel terribly emotional inside.

Chapter Three

Dealing with Difficulties in Organization

In particular, in my internship time period, I did not have to face much difficulty. I faced some

small case difficulties which were manageable and I’m happy with how I dealt with those

situations.

 Overtimes:

Although the office hour was till 5:00pm, often I had to stay at office till 7:00pm, and

sometimes even 8:30PM, which was a little frustrating. But it was acceptable for me because

I came slightly late to office on many occasions. Once, I had to stay till 9pm in a meeting with

an agency in Banani. But my supervisor later dropped me off at my house, so it did not prove

to be much bad.

 Coworkers:

My team was an excellent support to me. But some people from some other teams in the same

department sometimes gave me vibes that they don’t quite like me. But I always wore a smile

inside the office and so it never proved to be much of a problem to me. Because at the end of

the day, you can never really satisfy every people you come across. So basically, a simple

smile was the key to many of my troubles.

 The Order Rush:

As soon as the documents, specifications, technical details, and fabric samples reached the

hands of the merchandiser, the rush began. During the accessory development, I and the whole

team had to work very hard. In fact, there was hardly any time to breathe without the lunch

break. We had to make hundreds of swatch boards, which took a lot of time. Had to constantly

follow-up the each of the suppliers on the recent conditions of different accessories. It was all

a lot of work, and I had a very hard time to keep up with it. But at the end of the day, I managed

them quite well and for that I’m satisfied with myself. In other cases, I have faced some minor

problematic situations which do not really need specific descriptions. But on an overall basis,

it was quite a smooth journey for me.

12

 Onus Group

Difference between Expectation and

Experience

Comparing my expectations and experiences, I have fond some significant differences which have

helped me to learn different aspects of an organization.

Effectiveness & Efficiency

It is biggest difference between my expectation and experience. I always thought such a big

company would be very efficient and effective all-around. But, I had amazed to see that they don’t

use any inventory management in the warehouse. Even the records are maintained only in a register book, not in a computer. Which makes it very hard to identify any mistakes or account for any

mistakes by the warehouse. There are large multinational companies as example, who save a lot

of time, money and resources just by using a proper inventory management system.

Another big surprise was the management system. Onus Group follows a centralized management

system. Which means the employees have to inform and take permission from the top

management, specifically the Director, for even the smallest of things. Which slows down the

entire process. The Director needs to visit different firms under Onus Group, which makes himunavailable from time to time. Even in case of emergency documents, the employees have to wait

till the Director comes to the office and then proceed. It is an extensive waste of time.

Don’t Work Hard, Work Smart:

At first I thought working harder, faster, and quickly is the key in an organization. But from my

experience, I found that it was not the case. Working smartly is the key to do better. Working faster

and quicker than everyone else is not the ideal deal here. Rather from my experience, I think

working with full coordination of resource and team work helps to do the work properly while

keeping everyone else happy. When different people are involved, the work is done easily with

less effort. It is similar to group works in my NSU life. In addition, if you work faster it will

definitely work in your advantage but it can also create a disadvantage. The disadvantage was

13

Page 20: AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON ONUS GROUP

7/23/2019 AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON ONUS GROUP

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/an-internship-report-on-onus-group 20/38

 Onus Group

that if you work faster than it will raise one’s expectation. Thus an individual should not try to

outperform others ruthlessly by giving their full 100%; rather s/he should work better than other

by working together. It also reduces the conflict among team member.

Interns are Treated Equally:

In addition, I was expecting that, since everyone in the organization is much more experienced and

senior than me, it will result in a full formal and bossy type behavior inside the office. But in reality

I have found that everyone inside the office was very frank and friendly with me which was really

comforting and helpful for me. So I understood that, the behavior pattern differs from corporation

to corporation. Before getting in OG, I expected that in an organization, Interns are not well treated

but in OG everyone treats an intern as their co-worker despite of the age differences. They try to

motivate with value, not money and incentive. It is not like they will only motivate an individualwhen there is work to do. Rather they will try to motivate in every moment of office. As I am

getting more and more involved in the organization, I have found that in an organization, everyone

is really busy with their own work. They don’t even have much time to gossip in the office. But

they sure squeeze out time from their busy schedules to maintain healthy relationships and interact

with coworkers including the interns.

Co-Workers can be Friend Too:

I never expected that a co-worker can be a friend of a particular nature. But in Onus Group (OG),

working condition is flexible and everyone behave as they are friends despite of the age

differences. Once my superior told me that in corporate culture, everyone wears a mask and

behaves differently. Even I should do the same. Before I joined OG, I had a hypothesis similar to

this about their corporate culture and it turned out to be true. I always imagined a supervisor to be

rude and bossy, but I never imagined that they could be the coolest person you know in that

organizations.

Formal vs. Informal Work Life:

One very notable key point is that, I was expecting that in the organization, everyone should always

wear formal dress, talk formally, and work as hard as possible. But, I found from my

14

Page 21: AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON ONUS GROUP

 Onus Group

experience that formality is needed in some situations but we should be more casual. Casual

dresses and casual behavior were welcomed more and a strict office hour was rarely maintained.

In Onus Group, working hour is 10am-6pm. Most of the times, my team members would stay at

office till 7pm or 7.30pm and complete their work before going home. Sometimes it would stretch

to more than 8 pm. But then again, if they work late one day, they are allowed to come a little late

the next day so it was quite flexible and opposite to my expectations. We only needed to use

formality in some specific cases. Everyone is empowered to do their work freely here. Working

under different leader and department also brings value to work and it in turn helps to improve the

career.

Academic Theories vs Real Life Implementation:

Academic learning is very much different from experiential learning. During my class time, we

have only learned the theories and the terms related to the fields. But in practical, it is necessary

to be creative and being updated with the information about the industry you are working in. The

financial courses I did, are not much of a help in a garment factory. It’s like, what we were taught

and what I am experiencing are entirely of two different worlds. I had a feeling that MIS Courses

would be very effective here. With the help of a MIS group, I could build an entire database

management software, design datasheet, improve their server, and website, etc. Hence, our courses

should be designed in a more practical manner so that students do not face problems during his/her

 professional career.

Meetings and Presentations in Bangla:

From our presentation experiences in NSU, I could never imagine a full presentation in Bangla.

But here was OG, where in my 3 month internship period; I never came across a single presentation

in English. It was not like they could not present in English, but they always felt comfortable and

free in Bangla presentations and it worked perfectly fine.

On an overall basis, the whole experience was quite different than what I expected before joining

Onus Group.

 Onus Group

Chapter Four

Influence of Internship in My Future

Career Plan

Before joining OG, I was planning to continue my education (MBA) after graduation and maintain

focus in my studies. But after joining and experiencing my internship at Onus Group, I decided to

continue my MBA along with job or I want join with a CA firm. According to my current plan,

Onus Group is just a small step in my life to go forward, and start my own business in future. I

know now job experience is more effective to build a better career and its really best way to learn.

So I want to join with CA firm or any professional course or job along with academic study.

Re-Do the Internship- What I Would

Have Done Differently:

If I had to redo the internship one more time, I would like to do almost the same things as I have

done so far but some exceptions. I frequently asked for feedback from my supervisor and used

them to maximum impact. They were really satisfied with my performance and they never raised

a single complaint against me in my 12weeks period. However, there are some things that I would

have liked to change:

1

16

Page 23: AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON ONUS GROUP

 Onus Group

 Proposal on Inventory Management

If I were to get another chance, I would make a proposal on implementing an Inventory

Management System, to the top management. First, I would point out, the current problems that

they can avoid, and then the benefits they can will receive from it.

 Be More Punctual:

If I could change anything from this period, I would change the fact that I frequently came late to

the office. Though I stayed late to compensate for that, it is really essential to come early in office

time. It creates a perception of being responsible and professionalism in peoples’ eyes. So, if I

have option of redo the internship than I will come to office early.

 Be More Expressive:

What I would have liked change is to be more vocal. Even my supervisor advised me in my last

day that I was quite the introvert type. I needed to speak my mind more. So I would definitely try

to be more expressive if I get another chance.

 Socialize To More People:

In terms of behavior and socialization, I would have had liked to talk to more people but I think it

is still ok, as I was just an intern. But on an overall view, I am quite happy with my performance

and experience.

Another thing I would want to do is decentralize the whole business and the build a more efficient

management system. But, it is way out of my league, as only the owners have the rights and

capability to make that decision. They might not even care to listen to what I have to say. During

the internship, I also spoke to my supervisor about it, but he said it will go on as it is and they will

not change. At least, not based on my opinion who doesn’t know anything about business.

 Onus Group

Conclusion

In conclusion, I can say that I have learned a lot about different tools, systems, and organization’s

culture. I learned different aspects of working environment and working patterns.

I also learned how to do the same things differently and easily. It is possible to do different work

with same tool as well as with different tools. It is better to do work properly but using correct tool

and software helps to work with accuracy. In the communications team, I realized how to behave

and communicate in a corporation.

In Onus Group, I have learned that every team and department is interdependent with others. Onus

Group is a paperless work place which helps to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of an

organization. Communicating properly is very important in an organization and OG taught me that

in numerous occasions. In addition, people here will always motivate you to do your best. It does

not matter whether they have work or not, but they will always motivate you to do better work. At

the same time they will see the work and its quality. There are a lot of ways to motivate without

incentive and OG exercise it in the best possible way.

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 01/09/2015

By the grace of almighty Allah I got an internship at ONUS group and I have also got my favorite

teacher as my internship supervisor. I am assigned to the Malibagh, chowdhury para, Dhaka-1219.

The head office of ONUS group to complete my internship program and I have been going to

office since 1st

 September, 2015.

My first week at Onus Group  was the most important stage of my internship program as it

consisted of introducing with my supervisor and other officers. I was introduced with my co intern

who is from BRAC University. Most importantly, I was introduced with the tasks to be done. My

supervisor is a very helpful guy and he makes me understand everything very easily. He explained

me the business responsibility and objectives they are pursuing. Moreover, all the staffs appeared

very friendly and they are helpful too. Overall, my first week at Onus Group was all about

introduction to the members of the company and the tasks.

Bangladesh is one of the largest textile & clothing exporter in the world. 76% (around 5.7

billion US dollar) of our export earning comes from this sector. Onus Group is one of the pioneer

in this sector. When Bangladesh entered the market economy era, she was struggling to set foot in

global competition.

Onus Group excelled in global competition with the strength of quality, technical support and

human precision to present Bangladesh in the international market. Working with private

entrepreneurs, Onus Group has earned unrivaled success in the field of ready-made garments

industry.

Beginning in the 1993 Onus has by now built a remarkable reputation as a Garments exporting

company in this Bangladesh. Diversity and quest for specialization has made the group more

resilient which led to prosperity and progress together towards excellence. In 1993, Onus Group

began her journey with one factory where there were only 2 assembly line and 70 workers.

Stitching her way up, Onus Group now is a proud owner of 10 companies with 36 assembly lines

of a total work force of 3400 workers.

2nd

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 08/09/2015

It has been a couple of weeks since I have started my internship. My major task on the second

week was to know about all the departments and their functionality. In this process, I also got

introduced to the members of the departments and their job description. They all gave me a very

warm welcome.

Although this is my 2nd

week but I am still trying to gather knowledge about Onus Group and this

sector. Onus Group is a partnership business, equally owned between three partners. The

organization is a combined achievement of three people, since 1992. The company is based on

centralized management, where all decision are made only by the top management, especially the

Director Mr. Mahidul Islam Khan. All the employees of the company have to directly contact the

Director of the company for any needs or requirement.

This week, I checked client’s list and observed that there is quite good amount of clients and there

are some well-known names as well like Wal-Mart, Target, Hagar, Cintas, Aramark, Carrefour,

Sears etc. Their main client is Wal-Mart, they deal with Wal-Mart’s head office and supply the

products in different branches of Wal-Mart according to their instruction.

Onus Group buys most of their raw materials from China and the quality of raw materials are quite

good. Their main raw materials are many kinds of fabrics like Cotton, Silk, and Nylon. They

mainly make cotton shirts and jeans for both male and female. There are also Jackets/vets

This week, There were some new things that I achieved like how to arrange a meeting and discuss

on a specific topic, they first talked about their inventories then packaging then how they will

deliver the products. They followed a step by step process to accomplish the meeting.

3rd

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 19/09/2015

This is my 3rd  week and my supervisor Mr. Badal send me to SDLC team to work with them as

a MIS person. I did dual major Finance & Accounting and MIS. SDLC team looking for a MIS

person to help their project. So that form this week, I have started work with SDLC team at ONUS

group for system development purpose. My internship experience so far has been hassle free but I

have already started to feel the pressure of organizational responsibility.

This week my supervisor along with his assistant and interns visited a few factories. As the

factories are outside Dhaka, they had to visit one factory per day. Every factory is dedicated to adifferent client, which helps to avoid any mistakes and conflicts in the production process.

The working conditions are quite suitable for the employees. The employees are very friendly and

affable to each other. The main mode of communication within and outside the organization is

through email. It ensures the validity of any work through documentation, thus preventing any

desecration or exploitation of any information or any mistake. They refer to this form of

communication as Drafting.

The main purpose was to evaluate the running production, check for quality, and monitor worker

activity. A group of senior merchandising managers visit factories for evaluating their production

and workers activity every week. I was in their group with my supervisor Mr. Badal and visited

Citadel Apparel factory, located in Gazipur. 600 workers are engaged there for production in

different sections. In this factory they only make clothing for U.S. Polo, and Aramark. Focusing

on Denim and Good Quality woven Shirts and Pants.

This week I visited their main factory I observed few things, they operate in full compliance with

applicable laws, rules and regulations including those relating to labor, worker health and safety

and environment. They employ workers only who meet the applicable minimum legal age

requirement or at least 18 years of age whichever is greater.

4th

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 28/09/2015

By the grace of Almighty Allah this is my 4th

week and I am working with SDLC team at ONUS

group for system development purpose. Last week we have visited few factories and took some

interview for analyze the whole system. By visiting factories and talk to different stuff and officials

I get an overview of Onus Group.

As I observed, Onus Group encourage to develop lawful workplace apprenticeship programs for

the educational benefit of their workers. They provide all their workers with safe and healthy

environment. They employ workers on the basis of their ability to do the job not on the basis of

their personal characteristics or beliefs. They don’t use involuntary labor of any kind. They do not

force any worker to remain in employment for any period of time against his or her will.

They set working hours, wage and overtime pay in compliance with all applicable laws and provide

free medical facilities & consultation to workers. There is a full –time nursing station. They

provide child-care facilities for women with small children. They also provide refreshment

allowance to workers. They have huge dining facility to provide lunch to all workers free of cost.

This week I was told to do some data entry in an excel spreadsheet related to clients in the

computer. Basically the data was about clients’ purchase orders. The purchase orders (PO) include;

Style, quantity, sizes, ETA fabric, ETD RMG, ETA accessories, packaging information, fabric

design, fabric color, etc. which I was learnt from MIS 310 course.

Then there has to be different spreadsheet made for every item on the purchase order (PO). There

are hundreds of PO just from a single client. Thus a lot of table work, most of which were divided

among the interns. I was told to make a pie chart of their market sales status. I observed that their

main client is Wal-Mart. Here in the pie chart of Market Sales Status, huge part belongs to Wal-

Mart. The organization sales their RMG product too many other well-known companies.

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 04/10/2015

This my 5th week and till now I am working with excel spreadsheet. This week was reporting week

what I found and observed from those data. When I was preparing the pie chart I observed some

 points.

I noticed the sales of the company is mainly based on Wal-Mart. There are other companies in the

market sales like Target, Haggar, Cintas, Carrefour, Aramark and Sears. Which means if Wal-

Mart turns away from them, the company might get bankrupt. Market Sales Status is;

In the pie chart, 40% of market sales belongs to Wal-Mart, then Target and Dickie’s is 15%,

Haggar is 10% and Cintas, Carrefour, Aramark, Sears is 6%, 6%, 5%, 3% respectively. I noticed

that 40% is in Wal-Mart, which is the highest percentage in the overall chart.

I found that the Onus Group’s RMG is distributed to every branches of Wal-Mart all over the

world. Day by day their main clients is being the market giant Wal-Mart. It is one kind of benefit

for the company as Wal-Mart has many more branches in all over the world, they are getting the

opportunity to introduce their product in different countries.

So it was a great week for me because I have learnt lots of practical things which will be beneficial

for my future career. Now I know how to analyze data and why it is important. I had theoretical

idea about database management system (DBMS), but this week I do some practical work and

based on database now I am able to make pie chart as well.

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 11/10/2015

I continued working in the SDLC team of ONUS group for system and financial analysis purpose,

throughout this week as well. This week’s work was all about putting my learning to

implementation properly. This week along with my SDLC supervisor Mr. Kais Zaman I have done

some important task to continue the project successfully.

It was a great opportunity to me to work with some brilliant person and I did many practical work

with them which I was learned from my MIS major courses. As a MIS person I had to do initial

part of SDLC project which included initial idea, feasibility study, requirement analysis, system

analysis and overall planning.

I did scheduling for the SDLC project. For scheduling purpose I had to made PERT chart,

Grant chart and most importantly I had to identify Critical path for the project. I have done all

the task along with my respective supervisor and one of the brightest artificial engineer Mr. Kais

Zaman. It was great experience for me and with my supervisor I have done all the above task and

made a diagram which divided the whole project into five phases.

For problem analysis I had to take interview different officials of Onus Group and I had to visit

their 10 company. Feasibility analysis also was a crucial part of SDLC project which I have done

very effectively and my supervisor is very happy to get an exact problem and feasibility analysis.

So it was really a great week for me because I learned how to implement theoretical knowledge

on practical life. A real life project what I am doing with SDLC team is a best way to learning and

I hope this knowledge help me lot to make my career and better future.

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 16/10/2015

Previous week, I performed some schedule activities like visiting factory, taking interview, and

putting data into excel sheet. After those schedule activities both of us were appointed under the

audit department. There, our main duty was to match the day-to-day slips, receipts, vouchers, and

other monetary documents with the register book, to check for errors. Then, build a spreadsheet

and input all the information from the register into the spreadsheet.

My supervisor taught me the vehicle requisition process of Onus Group and so I can book the car

myself for my work and it requires two authorized person’s approval. The company does not pay prior any expenses are made from a person’s own pocket for the company’s needs, or any

conveyance expenses. After the expenses, a requisition bill has to be prepared and submitted to

the accounts department. Only after the requisition is passed by any manager or any senior officer,

the bill is passed and payment is provided to the person.

A few observations for this week included; it is important to inform the organization before using

any asset of the organization. This must be performed because it will help the organization to count

its current useable resources. We found many errors in the register. When we checked the vouchers

to evaluate the mismatch, we found that, it was mostly because many writings and numbers were

not clear enough.

Also, there were variance on the vouchers, especially the conveyance bills, where travel cost of

the same distance by a few people is higher than the average. Thus we informed our seniors about

the discrepancy. Requisition slips are a big problem for the company, especially for the employees.

This week, I have learned so many things and especially this week was my learning week. I had

absolutely no idea about the importance and magnitude of this division’s work before my

internship but now I know how crucial this section’s work is. I am really grateful to Mr. Shariaz

Sarkar for being so patient and allow me to stay in his division.

8th Week Journal

Date of submission: 26/10/2015

This week was quite happening for me as I started to work for a new department and Eid vacation

as well. I observed the regular activities of Our SDLC project carefully. We have already done

problem analysis, feasibility analysis and planning part as well. My team leader Mr. Kais Zaman

is very happy because we have submitted to him all the document about and survey result on time.

Earlier this week it was before Eid vacation, the assistant director of Onus Group suddenly

summoned to his office. We had a nice chat and he asked me about my experience so far, about

any difficulty if I were facing, how the employees behaving with me etcetera’s. After that he called

a guy named Mr. Moinul whom I saw working in another section but never got the chance to beintroduced properly. However, the manager introduced me to him and I found out that he was the

relationship manager (RM) of the company.

Mr. Moinul is an extremely polite guy and he explained the whole process very nicely. This week

we were asked to make swatch boards using swatch cards. Swatch cards are specially made harder

art papers, which looks like a graph paper, with larger gaps (1cm X 1cm). A small sample of the

materials required for production of garments are attached to the card.

The swatch boards are made based on Purchase Orders (PO). There are 158 POs in total, and

currently 30 POs are on the process, and ready to start production. 7 swatch boards are needed to

be made, each for: Warehouse, Quality manager, Production Manager, Cutting section, finishing

section, QC section and Floor inventory. We were asked to make the swatch boards.

The production process is very much based on swatch boards, and cannot proceed without them.

Any mistake in the swatch board will lead to a bigger mistake in the mass production. Therefore,

after making them, they are revised multiple times to avoid any mistakes. The process does not

follow the PO numbers, rather the PO numbers as well as the swatch boards are aligned as per the

date of delivery, which was given to Onus by the customer.

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 03/11/2015

I mentioned before our SDLC project is almost done and I already submitted all my analysis report

to our supervisor. To complete my internship I have to work another 4 weeks. That’s why

I was shifted to another department.

However, it was finished so I was asked to join the other departments by rotation in this week. But

I decided to take a break from learning new stuff and do some regular official activities in the

merchandising division. In this journal I would like to share some work experience which I have

actually done in the merchandising department.

Editing and checking the latest drafts of company’s Director’s Report, Corporate Responsibility

Report, Audit Report and working on the drafting of the Company Minutes. Once these documents

have been correctly checked and approved, then we will be one step closer to publishing our next

Annual Report.

Working for the design and formatting of our Annual Report. This week, I was involved to assist

the secretary in checking, editing and formatting various pages that will later go into company’s

Annual Report. I also worked along with the team to ensure that our requirements were being met

smoothly. Our work was a bit easier, as we had the previous formats, and the patterns. All we had

to do was arrange them all in a proper manner.

My supervisor, went on medical vacation. In his place, his immediate subordinate, Mr. Md. Azad

Rahman, was in charge and in control of our wing. When I was collecting data for our annual

report I found some award list that ONUS GROUP won, like: Gold Supplier Award 2008 by PVH-

Phillips- Van Husan Corporation to Citadel Apparel Limited for distinguished recognition of

company’s exceptional performance and commitment to excellence. Factory of the year 2002 and

2004 by Oxford Industries, Inc. Collections Division to ONUS Group and ONUS Apparels for the

 best overall performance.

10th

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 14/11/2015

I already worked nine weeks for Onus group and learned so many things so far. This week I worked

for only four working days and took the rest of the week off, to take preparations for a job

interview. The four working days, I was given the same old data entry work and regular official

work.

This week, I continued to work in the customer relationship department of the ONUS group headed

by Mr. Moinul, the Relationship Manager. Two Sri-Lankan customers came to the office this

week. They already visited the factory, and have been complaining that there requirements are not being met. Because of Puja vacation most of the employee are absent so production is very low in

this week.

I already mentioned that the production process is very much based on swatch boards, and cannot

proceed without them. Any mistake in the swatch board will lead to a bigger mistake in the mass

production. Therefore, after making them, they are revised multiple times to avoid any mistakes.

The process does not follow the purchase order (PO) numbers, rather the PO numbers as well as

the swatch boards are aligned as per the date of delivery, which was given to Onus by the customer.

Last week we were asked to make the swatch boards to maintain smooth production. Total 210

swatch boards for 30 PO’s. It took us around 3 days to make all those swatch cards. We have

enough resources, raw materials but only lack of worker our company doesn’t produce estimated

product which arise lots of problem.

I came to know that, few representative of the foreign customers stay in Bangladesh for a season,

until their production is completed. They also often complain without any valid point, to create

more pressure on production, for better quality, although they don’t increase their CM (Cutting

& Making) rate.

11th

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 22/11/2015

This week, I had some interesting experience because each and every day I had to arrange meeting.

This week was all about arranging and confirming meeting with different departments of Onus

Group and with our new agency. A daylong meeting with the agency in Onus Group meeting room

about the design of our new campaign. I had to sit for a long meeting in agency’s office with my

supervisor and I had to develop meeting agenda with the assist of my supervisor.

A daylong meeting was also held with our whole team in Onus Group meeting room. Before that,

I had to make a survey questionnaire with a fellow intern for the campaign and had to contact with

the Creative Department to set up a meeting with the Product team and Business intelligence team.

I was told to contact the head of the Creative Team to give me a measurement of a small cutout

which I had to mail to my supervisor. My supervisor told me to make some images from a PDF

file for my supervisor’s presentation. So that we had to sit for another meeting with my team to

finalize the agency’s offers.

A few observations those I was observed in whole week are very much important for me and it

will help me lot in my future career. In the meetings with these two different teams (legal team

and media team), our purpose was to get approval for our project. I noticed that, my supervisors

gave away as minimum details as possible to avoid complications. So, there were very little things

about which the other teams could object and therefore the agreements went effectively and

smoothly.

This was an interesting learning point for me. Creating a brief from a large project is not an easy

task. I had to keep all the important information and also make it very short at the same time which

is difficult to manage. So those are all about for this week which I have done and learned as well.

12th

 Week Journal

Date of submission: 29/11/2015

By the grace of Almighty Allah this is my last week of my Internship program. Last week was all

about farewell and saying good byes’. I was there for a very short time but it was good enough for

creating a lasting impression about not only this Onus Group but also on the industry as a whole.

At the beginning of the week, I was given all the documents that we have prepared till now, and

then re-organize them in a descending order. Although it looks simple, it takes a lot of time and

effort to re-organize so much information. I was given 2days time to do so, but it took more than

that, and extended to the 3rd

 day.

Then I had to build a top sheet for the entire bundle of document. A top sheet is the summary of

all the documents, through which all the important information of the order can be gained in a

glimpse. The idea of top sheet is very effective. It simplifies work, by acting as an index or

summary for any future references. If anyone else wants to know about the current status of the

order, all they will need is the top sheet.

Documents from the previous orders were also needed to get some information for the current

order. My perception about the data entry have changed. I used think they are unnecessary work,

and did not give much importance. Now I can see that, even a small mistake in there can lead to

big problem, and also wastes time. Almost 1-5hours of time can get wasted on identifying just no

mistake.

The last week in Onus Group was quite emotional for me. I met everyone for the last time on the

last day and all of them wished me good luck for my future. I felt sad the whole day and the thought

of this being the last day made me feel terribly emotional inside. At the last day of the week, I

visited all the departments and took my leave from them. At last, I went to the Director’s office to

take my leave with his permission. The Director granted me leave.
