Given prior lesson on the genre of fairy tales, students will collaborate in groups of 3 or 4 to create their own fairy tales using the three major elements of a fairy tale (setting, characters, fantasy/magic in the plot) using story starters and iPads with Educreations, Length of Lesson: (minutes, number of class periods, or days or weeks needed). The lesson should last approximately 75 minutes Schedule of Activities: (Break down your activity into a timeline of events. Focus on what students will be doing and what teachers will be doing during each part of the activity.)

.) Teacher will lead discussion and ask students to name some of their favorite fairy tales and ask the students if they know what some common elements of fairy tales are. This will engage prior knowledge and therefore scaffold learning. (5 minutes)

.) The teacher will go through the slides 2-4 (what makes a fairy tale- Gruesome Grimm Brothers). (5 minutes)

.) As a class, the students will choose one of the Grimm’s fairy tales and we will take turns reading it out loud together as a class (10 minutes)

.) The teacher will show a short video about who Hans Christian Andersen was. Because the text is very quick on the video, the teacher might want to pause the video and let the students take turns reading the information out loud. (5 minutes)

.) The teacher will ask if anybody knows who Walt Disney is and go into the next slide on Walt Disney and his works. (3 minutes)

.) The teacher will divide the students into groups of 3 or 4 so that they can create “Fairy Tale Soup”. Each group will send one person to the board to spin the first spinner. That is the time they must use for their fairy tale. The next person in the group spins spinner two and so on until each group has spun all four spinners. (5 minutes)

.) Using Educreations, each group will use the items they spun to create, write out, and illustrate their own fairy tale. The teacher will go around to each group to make sure they are incorporating all of the necessary elements. (15 minutes)

.) The teacher will explain what a fractured fairy tale is and let the students watch the video on “the true story of the three little pigs”. (7 minutes)

.) Using Educreations, each group will rewrite their fairy tale as a fractured fairy tale, changing the setting, time, or point of view of their story. (10 minutes)

.) Each group will be given the chance to share their stories (10 minutes).
