    Joint issue of AN-NOOR

A reasonable excuse for the delay

    To our esteemed readers:

This issue of the monthly AN-NOOR is a

joint issue of May-2016 & June-2016. There was

much workload in the month of April-2016 & May-

2016 at Daarul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora. All

tiers of the administration and all subordinae

sections of the Raheemiyyah administration were

extremely busy with preparations for the three big

    events.

    (1) Preparations for 3-day conference of

hundreds of scholars from the country and from

    abroad.

    (2) Preparations for the Annual Convocation

    of the Raheemiyyah varsity.

    (3) Preparations for the maiden conferenceon Hazrat Imaam-e-Aazam Sahib Imaam Abu-

    Haneefah Sahib Rahmatullaahi-alaihi at the

Convocation Hall of the University of Kashmir

    Hazratbal Srinagar.

    (4) Preparations for conducting the annual

    examinations under Raabitah-e-Madaaris-e-

    Islaamiyyah Arabiyyah Daarul-Uloom Deoband

    branch Jammu & Kashmir.

    Moreover, the computer-section, where the

monthly AN-NOOR is being compiled and

computerized, was under heavy workload of the

    above-mentioned preparations. The Honourable

Chancellor of this varsity, Hazrat Maulaana

    Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Qaasmi Daamat-

Barakaatuhum, was working day and night and their

much time was spending in travelling while

finalizing the arrangements and preparitons for

    these special events.

Therefore, the issue of May-2016 got

delayed due to the day and night preparations and

heavy workload of these big events

aforementioned. Hence reasonable excuse for the

    delay.

    EDITORIA

    Preparation forRamadhaan

BY: Hazrat Maulaana Ilyaas Patel Sahib

Before any event, preparations are made.

In proportion to the event are the preparations.

If it is a small event, then perhaps the

preparations will commence a few days before

and it will involve a few individuals. If it is a

    worldwide event, then preparations will

commence weeks, rather months in advance

    and will involve many people.

Likewise, we will witness, if Allah Taala

wills, such a grand, magnificent event that

preparations have commenced for it an entire

year in advance. Jannah is prepared and

beautified by Allah Taala the entire year for the

moment when its doors will be flung open on the

first night of Ramazaan. Such a great month

that leave alone man, the entire creation of

Allah Taala is mobilised for it. The fish in the

ocean make dua for the fasting person (Musnad

Ahmad). The angels in the heaven make dua for

    their forgiveness.

Precisely for this reason, Hazrat Nabi

Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) declared this

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

month as `azeem (great) mubaarak (blessed)

(Ibnu Khuzaymah). It is a month in which Allah

Taala engulfs His creation in His Rahmah. Theexcellence of this month has been encapsulated

in the following words of Hazrat Rasulullah

(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as reported by Abu

Masood (radiyallahu `anhu): Had my Ummah

only knew the true value of Ramazaan, they

would have desired that the entire year beRamazaan (Ibn Khuzaymah).

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

would make dua to be allowed to witness the

month of Ramazaan from the time the crescent

    of Rajab would be sighted.

"O Allah! Bless us in Rajab and

Sha`baan and allow us to witness the

    month of Ramazaan" (Tabarani).

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

would also make the following dua:

"O Allah! Safeguard me for the month

of Ramazaan and guard the month of

Ramazaan for me (that I attain the

    maximum blessings of this month)"

    (Tabarani).

    Imaam Suyuti (Rahimahullah), a renowned

Shafi` scholar narrates in Ad Durrul Manthoor

from Mu`alla bin Fadhl: The pious people of the

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    7/80

past would begin making dua to witness the

month of Ramazaan six months in advance!

What can we do in preparation for

    Ramazaan?

Firstly, fulfil all obligations that are

outstanding towards people whether it be of a

monetary nature or anything else.Secondly, try and programme ourselves in

such a way that we have minimum work in

Ramazaan and maximum time to dedicate to

    Allah Taala.

Thirdly, draw up for ourselves a

programme, deciding how we will utilise ourtime fruitfully during the Mubarak month of

    mercy.

Lastly, try and increase our time spent in

the pleasure of Allah Taala so that we are ready

    to receive this great month.

May Allah Taala grant us the best of thismonth and shower us with his mercy and

    forgiveness. Aameen.

    Object of Ramazaan

On a sweltering hot day your throat hasbecome parched. You are in the privacy of your

home and the refreshingly cool water is within

hand's reach. You desire to drink it, but you do

not. Why? Simply because you are fasting andwhile fasting you cannot eat and drink. If

somebody prompts you to nevertheless drink it

and says: "Nobody is watching," you will

immediately rebuke him with the words: "But

    Allah is watching!"

    Allah Ta'ala is Watching!

    Subhanallah! Allah Ta'ala is watching.

Allahu Akbar! Allah Ta'ala is All Hearing, All

Knowing, He is Omnipresent. He sees and knows

when we cheat while fasting, thus we resist alltemptations of food, drink and lawful conjugal

relations from dawn to dusk. We have learnt the

lesson of Taqwa. We have learnt that lesson

which the fasting was meant to teach us. Allah

Ta'ala is watching! Yes, Allah Ta'ala is Watching!

Every time there is an urge to eat or drink while

fasting, the voice from within cries out: "Allah

Ta'ala is watching!" Dozens of times daily for an

entire month this reality is reaffirmed. Allah

Ta'ala is watching. So deeply is it embedded in

the heart that by the time Ramazaan is over, a

person becomes conscious of Allah Ta'ala to

such an extent that he is now guided by an inner

force that propels him in the direction of

righteousness and turns him away from sin.

    Taqwa

The fasts of Ramazaan were prescribed for

the purpose and object of attaining Taqwa. This

is clearly declared in the Qur'an-al-Kareem.

Taqwa simply is to obey the commands of AllahTa'ala and refrain from all sin, the increased

rewards for lbaadah (worship) in Ramazaan and

all the blessings of this great month should be

considered as the bonus. The object is Taqwa. If

one performs an abundance of Salaah,

completes the recitation of the Holy Qur'anthirty times and engages in many other acts of

lbaadah, but fails to give up sins - one has failed

to achieve the object and purpose of Ramazaan.

One has failed to firmly embed the reality of

Taqwa in the heart, the Taqwa that cries out

"Allah Is watching" whenever one contemplates

    committing any transgression.

    Temptation

The dictates of Taqwa are not restricted to

    abstaining from drinking, gambling, adultery,

transacting in interest and other such vices.

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    10/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143710

Indeed Taqwa demands that while abstaining

from all the above vices one also observes

Taqwa in one's business. When the temptationto cheat the customer beckons, or when one is

tempted to buy stolen goods, or to indulge in

fraud, at that time also the heart should cry out

"Allah is watching" and it should restrain one

    from the sin.

    Rights

    Similarly, Taqwa demands the fulfillment

of the rights of the husband/wife, It also

demands the joining of family ties. It demands

respect for the elders and kindness for the

young. Taqwa entails, among other aspects, being honest and clear in all monetary dealings

and social interactions. Hence when there is a

wedding or funeral, or at the time of distributing

the inheritance of the deceased, the same level

of Allah consciousness must be displayed as was

apparent when refraining from drinking the cold

    water while fasting.

    Purdah

Likewise, when the laws of purdah are

violated, does the heart cry out "Allah is

watching"? Or when one intends to watch

something on TV., which will most definitely

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    11/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143711

involve one in zina of the eyes and ears, does

one hear the voice from within: "Allah is

watching," as a result of which one refrains fromthat sin? The same pertains to the Shari' aspects

of appearance and clothing. How often have we

done things to appease and please even the

enemies of Allah Ta'ala and Hazrat Nabi Akram

(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)? How often have we

abandoned the dictates of Taqwa in order toearn a few coppers? Now is the time to sincerely

repent. It is the time to say "Allah is watching"

and to do everything to please Him. It is a time

    to acquire Taqwa.

    Abstain From Sin

This then is the object of Ramazaan. This

will only be achieved if we conduct ourselves in

this great month with Taqwa. Or else the object

of Ramazaan will be defeated. Hence Hazrat

Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported

to have said: "He who does not forsake lying

and other futile actions, Allah Ta'ala has no need

for him to give up his food and drink." Thus

    together with fasting, performing Salaah,

reading the Holy Qur'an, serving the cause of

Deen, etc,, one must totally abstain from every

sin in the month of Ramazaan and adorn oneself

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    12/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143712

with Taqwa. Insha-Allah this will then carry one

along for the rest of the eleven months to

abstain from all sins.May Allah Ta'ala enable us to make this

Ramazaan a month where we will truly attain

    Taqwa. Aameen.

    Sehri

Partaking of sehri is a sunnah of HazratNabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and a

means of attaining great barakah and rewards.

Hazrath Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that

Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

Partake of sehri for verily in sehri is much

barakah (blessings) (Sahih Bukhari). In anothernarration Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi

Wasallam) has stressed the partaking of sehri by

proclaiming: Sehri is entirely barakah. Hence

do not omit it even if you just take a sip of

water, for verily Allah Taala and His angels send

blessings upon those who partake of sehri

    (Targheeb).

The Recitation of the Holy Quran

In the month of Ramazaan, the recitation

of the Quran Shareef has a very special

position. Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    13/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143713

Wasallam) would also revise the entire Holy

Quran with Jibraeel (Alaihis Salaam) in the month

of Ramazaan. Thus one should try to recite theentire Holy Quran as many times as possible

    during this mubaarak month.

Tilaawat (recitation) of the Quran Shareef

is a great Ibaadah in itself. Hazrat Rasulullah

(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has greatly exhorted us

to recite the Quran Shareef. Numerous virtueshave been promised for this ibaadah. Hazrat

Aaishah (Radhiyallahu Anha) says that Hazrat

    Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

Recitation of the Holy Quran in Salaah is more

rewarding than the recitation outside Salaah.

Recitation outside Salaah is preferable totasbeeh and takbir (repeating the words of

praise for Allah). Tasbeeh is superior to

sadaqah, sadaqah to fasting and fasting is

    protection against the fire (Bayhaqi).

In another narration it is reported that

Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

Reciting the Holy Quran from memory carries

one thousand degrees of thawaab while reading

Quran Shareef from the book increases it upto

    two thousand degrees.

The Revealed WordIt must nevertheless be clearly

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

understood that the reward for recitation will

only be received for reciting the Quran Shareef

the original revealed word in the Arabiclanguage. These rewards cannot be attained by

reading a translation. Reciting the Quran

Shareef and understanding its meaning from

authentic commentaries are two distinct aspects.

The rewards of tilaawat will be attained only by

reciting the actual words that were revealed even if one does not understand Arabic. To

believe that there is no benefit in reciting the

Quran Shareef if one does not understand

Arabic is indeed a severe deprivation.

    Night Before Eid

    Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam)

has said; The night of Eidul Fitr, the night that is

called Laylatul Jaaizah (The night of prize

giving), comes along. On the morning of Eid,

Allah Taala sends down the Malaaikah, to all the

lands of the earth, where they stand at the

entrance of roads, calling out with a voice that is

heard by all except man and jinn: O Ummah of

Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), come out

of your houses towards a Lord that is noble and

gracious, who grants much and pardons the big

    sins.

When they go towards the places for their

Eid Salaah, Allah Taala says to the Malaaikah:

What is the reward of that worker who hascompleted his work? The Malaaikah reply: O

Lord and master, it is only right that he should

receive his reward in full. Allah Taala then

    says:

I call you to witness, O My Malaaikah,

that for their having fasted during the month ofRamazaan, and for their having stood before Me

in prayer by night, I have granted to them as

reward My pleasure and have granted them

forgiveness. O My servants ask now of Me, for I

swear by My honour and My greatness, that

whatsoever you shall beg of Me this day in thisgathering of yours for the needs of the

Hereafter, I shall grant you, and whatsoever you

shall ask for your worldly needs, I shall grant it.

I swear by My honour that, as long as you shall

obey My commands, I shall cover up your faults.

By My Honour and My Greatness do I swear that

I shall never disgrace you together with the

sinful people and disbelievers. Go now from

here, you are forgiven. You have pleased Me and

    I am pleased with you.

The Malaaikah on seeing this great reward

given by Allah Taala upon the Ummah of Hazrat

Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) on the day

    16/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143716

of Eidul Fitr become greatly pleased and happy.

    (As reported in Targheeb.)

    Purpose of Ramazaan

Ramazaan is the month to boost our

spiritual batteries of Imaan to a peak. Hence if

in this very month we shirk in the fulfillment of

our ibaadah or fail to refrain from all sins, wewould be defeating the main purpose of this

mubarak month the inculcating of Taqwa

(fear of Allah) in our lives.

Therefore, it is important that we mentally

prepare ourselves for Ramazaan even before it

comes. For this we should immediately

commence a thorough reading of the Virtues of

    Ramazaan by Shaikhul Hadith Maulana

    Muhammad Zakariyya Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi).

Find a suitable time and read it to the entire

family. Then perhaps the true spirit of Ramazaan

will be kindled in the entire family. Perhaps it

will then be a Ramazaan that will be a turningpoint in our lives. After Ramazaan has gone, the

punctuality upon Salaah, recitation of the Holy

Quran, etc., and most importantly the refraining

from sins will still be a part of our lives.

May Allah Taala enable us to earn

His love and assist us in earning the maximum

benefit in this Mubarak month. Aameen.

    SURAH AL-BAQARAH

Note: This part of Tafseer is the remaining portion ofSurah Al-Baqarah Tafseer and hence connected withthe previous chapter of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer.

Moreover, certain scholars have seen an

argument in favour of the possibility of trans-

substantiation through magic in a saying of Kab al-

Ahbar, reported by Imam Maalik in his Muwatta on

the authority of Qaqa Ibn Haakim: Were it not for

these phrases which I recite regularly, the Jews

would have changed me into a donkey. A donkey

is, no doubt, a usual metaphor for a fool. But it is

not proper to turn away, unnecessarily, from the

literal meaning to a metaphorical one. So, the

sentence means just what it says that if therecitation of the phrases had not protected him, the

Jewish sorcerers would have changed him into a

donkey; secondly, the phrases he used to recite had

the property of making the magic of the sorcerers

lose its efficacy. On being asked what these phrases

were, the scholar Kab al-Ahbar taught his listenersthe following words of prayer:

I seek the protection of Allah The Great, greater thanwhom there is none; and I seek protection of theperfect words of Allah which no man, virtuous ofwicked, can ever transcend; and I seek the protectionof all the Beautiful Names of Allah, those of themwhich I know and those which I do not know, from

the evil of everything which Allah has created, towhich He has given existence, and which He hasspread (over the earth or the universe).

To sum up, all the three forms of magic are

possible, and can manifest themselves in actual fact.

MiraclesNow, let us turn to another important aspect

of the question. Through Prophets and Saints certain

events come into manifestation which normally and

habitually never happen, and are hence designated

as Kharq al-Adah (Contrary to the habitual). The

Islamic term for the miracles of Prophets isMujizaat, and for those of saints, Karamaat. The

effects produced by such miracles are in appearance

sometimes similar to those produced by magic. This

external resemblance leads some ignorant people to

confuse the one with the other, and they begin to

have a reverence for magicians which is totally out

of place. So, one must understand the difference

    between the two clearly.

Editorial note on Mujizah or Miracle:

For all the unusual events and unprecedented happeningsthe English language has but one word, Miracle which makes it

impossible for the reader in that language to mark the subtledifference in various forms of miracles. Briefly, therefore, thedifferent forms of miracles with their distinct objections areexplained here. It is hoped that this will help the readers have aclearer conception of Mujizah.

These terms are used in Arabic language to define anddifferentiate the unprecedented happenings and here each of them isexplained, so as to clearly differentiate them. Qualitatively, there is,apparently no difference in all of them.

Mujizah is the unusual event which occurs at the hands of

the Prophet. It is purely an act of Allah. A Prophets own Volitionhas no part in the working of it. For those who witness a Mujizah itis compulsory to believe in it.

Karamah another mode of unusual happenings is also anact of Allah; it appears at the hands of a Man of Allah. The basic

difference in Mujizah and Karamah is that one who performs Mujizah, addresses himself as a Prophet, a Man of Allah has no such claim. Inboth Mujizah and Karamah the usual cause and effect link is absent.Things happen but without any cause; and there is usually a totaltransformation of the nature and behavior of objects in Mujizah andKaramah. What is required is a generalized belief in them. Allahchooses whoever He wills for Mujizah and Karamah. No degree ofstringent discipline can give the power to make the unusual happen.

Irhaas is also a kind of Karamah. It heralds a coming of aprophet. It usually occurs at the hands of the one who is closelyrelated to the prophet: the unprecedented happenings in the life ofMaryam, mother of prophet Hazrat Isaa Alaihis-Salaam or thevarious unusual events that began occurring to and aroundAaminah the blessed mother of our Holy Prophet Sallallahu AlaihiWasallam; for instance, she had no pangs of birth, towards the

close of the birth period she used to hear stranger voices greetingher, although she saw no one. It is compulsory to believe in suchevents of Irhaas as have been mentioned in the Holy Quran andbelieve in a general manner, that Irhaas is usually associated withthe coming of a prophet.

The difference between miracle and magic

The miracles of prophets and saints aredifferent from magic, firstly, in their respective

natures, and, secondly, with regard to the signs and

indications attendant upon each. As for the

difference in their natures, it lies in the fact that the

results produced through magic depend on the lawof causality as much as do the ordinary and usual

events in the physical world, the only distinction

being that the causes are in the latter case quite

clear or easily observable, while in the former they

are different for a common man to detect. Where the

causes are evident, the effects are immediately

referred back to them, and the events thus produced

are not considered to be astonishing, but where the

causes are hidden or obscure, the events produced

by them arouse wonder and amazement, and those

who are ignorant of the causes rapidly come to

believe that the things have happened in

contravention of the habitual laws of the physicaluniverse.

Note: (In the West, they describe such events as beingsupernatural, although the Latin word Natura, which is theequivalent of the Greek word Phusis, does, at least in its originalsense, cover all that has been created, whether it lies in the domain

studied by empirical science or beyond it).

What these people do not realize is that such

happenings are as much due to certain causes as the

habitual events the cause in the case of

extraordinary happenings often being the activity of

a jinn or a devil (Shaytan). For example, a letter

suddenly falls in front of a man, and on reading it he

finds that the letter has been written just this day

and is coming from a distance of ten thousand miles.

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    21/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143721

Now, the onlookers would call it a supernatural

event, for they do not know that Allah Taala has

given the power of doing such things to jinns anddevils. Once one comes to understand the means

through which things of this nature take place, one

would no longer see them as supernatural, or even

as being contrary to habit. In short, all the results

obtained through magical practices are, in fact, due

to the operation of physical causes, but in the eyes

of common people they acquire the illusory

appearance of supernatural events, simply because

the operative causes are hidden from them.

On the other hand, miracles happen directly

under divine command without the intervention of

physical causes. For example, the Holy Quran tellsus how the tyrant Namrud (Nimrod) threw Sayyidina

Hazrat Ibraheem Alaihis Salaaminto a blazing fire, and

how Allah Taala commanded the fire to grow cold

for him, but not so cold as to do him harm and the

fire obeyed the command, and, instead of scorching

him, provided a place of safety. This was a direct

divine act, and hence a miracle. Now, we sometimes

hear of men who, having applied certain chemicals

to their body, can enter a fire without being

scorched. This is not a miracle, for the operative

cause is of a physical nature that is, chemicals.

It is the habit of Allah Taala that He alwayspunishes the wrong-doers with a punishment

    the heart. (Bukhari and Muslim)

    Comment ar y:

There are three types of matters in the world viz:

    1. Those matters that are clearly permissible (there is no

    doubt regarding their permissibility) their

permissibility is mentioned clearly mentioned in the

    Holy Quran and or Sunnah.

    2. Those matters which are clearly impermissible (there

is no doubt regarding their impermissibility) their

impermissibility is clearly mentioned in the Holy

    Quran and or Sunnah.

    3. Those matters that are doubtful there is no explicit

indication to their permissibility or impermissibility in

the Holy Quran and the Sunnah most people

therefore doubt whether such things are permissible

or not.In this Hadith, Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi

Wasallam) teaches us that abstinence is the best attitude

to adopt regarding such doubtful things, because,

whoever avoids the doubtful, safeguards his faith and

    his honour.

Avoiding the doubtful matters safeguards a

persons faith as continuous indulging in the doubtfuleventually causes a person to indulge in Haram

matters, avoiding the doubtful keeps a person far from

Haraam. Similarly, avoiding the doubtful safeguards

ones honour. As long as a person avoids the doubtful

matters people will not accuse him of indulging in

    Haraam.

One who gets involved in the doubtful will fall in

    unlawful activities.

  • 7/26/2019 An Noor May & June 106

    25/80

    May, June 2016 Shaban-Ramzan 143725

The meaning of this sentence is that

continuous indulging in the doubtful eventually

causes a person to indulge in Haraam.Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

thereafter gives an example to explain the

meaning of the sentence one who gets involved in

the doubtful, falls in unlawful activities. The crux

of the example is that just as the shepherd who

grazes his flock very close to the border of hispasture fears that some of his animals may stray

into his neighbours pasture, by constantly

engaging in doubtful things / activities we may

stray into the pasture of Haraam.

In the human body is the heart.

A persons actions and speech prove whether

there is Imaan and sincerity or whether this is kufr

or hypocrisy in a persons heart. It is for this

reason that when the heart is healthy, the whole

body is healthy, and when it is ailing, the whole

    body is ailing.

    Lessons:

    1.

    Abstain from doubtful matters, because

indulging in doubtful matters will eventually

lead a person to indulge in Haraam.

    2. The heart, being the most important part of

the human body, must be kept spiritually

    pure.

    Maternal lineage

Ilyaas: He was the namesake of Hazrat Ilyaas

(Alaihis salaam). The Sunnah (tradition of herding

the Hadi (sacrificial) animals towards Baitullaah (in

Makkah) was instituted by Ilyaas bin Mudar. It has

been said that Ilyaas bin Mudar would quite often

hear from his own back the Talbiyah of Haj being

recited by Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Do not

speak ill of Ilyaas as he was a Muslim.

Mudrikah: Most Ulama are of the opinion that

Mudrikahs name was Amr. Mudrikah is derived

from Idraak, literally meaning achievement. Since

amongst all Arabs. Due to his noble graciousness

and vast knowledge, people would travel far and

wide just to pay him a special visit.

Nadr: Nadr is derived from Nadaarah, which

means luminous and verdant. Owing to his

exceptional handsomeness he was entitled Nadr.

    His actual name was Qays.

Maalik:His first name was Maalik whilst his title

was Abdul-Haarith. He was one of the most

    prominent chieftains of the Quraysh.

Fihr: Fihr was his first name whilst Quraysh was

his title. According to some, his name wasQuraysh whilst his title was Fihr. His descendants

are referred to as Qurayshi whilst other Arab

descendants not hailing from Fihr are referred to

Reasons for the name of Quraysh

Quraysh is actually the name of marine

animal, which, owing to its great strength,

dominates all other marine animals. It promptly

devours all other sea creatures but none dares to

overwhelm it. Similarly, the Quraysh, owing to

their unrivalled valour and incredible courage,

always maintained their dominance over the other

tribes. None dared to overwhelm them. This is

why they were referred to as Quraysh.

Kab: The person to initiate the weekly

congregation on Fridays was Kab bin Luway. Kab

bin Luway would assemble all the people everyFriday and deliver a sermon. He would firstly

praise Allah Taala and explain that Allah Taala

created the skies, the earth, the moon, the sun

and all other forms of creation of creation. He

would then go on to give them some advice. He

would encourage them to maintain favourable

family ties. He would also mention: A prophet is

to appear amongst my descendants. If you happen

to encounter that time, make sure you follow

him. At times he would recite the following

    Abdu Manaaf: Hazrat Imaam Shaafiee

Manaafs name was Mughirah. He was

exceptionally handsome and striking. This is whyhe was known as Qamar Al-Bathaa (the moon of

Thareed (meat dish) and fed it to his people and

to all others when the people of Makkah were

left pathetically feeble by the drought. They did not occur only once, but he fed

them in this manner on a number of occasions. He

was exceedingly generous. His food tale was

enormously wide. His table was open to every

newcomer or traveler. He would provide the poor

travelers with camels to complete their journeys. He was exceptionally handsome. The noor of

prophethood would glimmer on his forehead. The

Ulama of the Bani Israaeel would fall into sajdah

and kiss his hands whenever they caught sight of

    him.

A number of Arab tribes of the Ulama of the

Banu Israaeel would offer their daughters hands

in marriage to Haashim. In fact, on one occasion,

Heraclius, the Byzantine emperor wrote to

Haashim thus: I have learnt of you unrivalled

generosity. I wish to grant you my daughters

hand in marriage. She is a princess unparalled in

beauty. In order to perform the Nikaah with the

princess, kindly come over to us. However,

Haashim refused to accept the proposal. In actual

fact, the emperors key objective was to transmit

the noor of prophethood that was glimmering on

Haashims forehead into the royal family. It is said

that Haashim passed away at the age of twenty-

five. (To be continued , Insha-Allahu Taaala)

Hazrat Abu Bakr Raziyallahu Anhu and the

With all these virtues and privileges, Hazrat

Sometimes he would say: I wish I were a

How lucky you are! You eat, you drink and fly

even spoke of referring the matter to Hazrat Nabi

Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), but I did not agree

to utter that word. He got up and left me. A few

people of my clan remarked, Look! How strange!

The person does wrong to you and on the top ofthat, he threatens to complain to Hazrat Nabi

Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). I said, Do you

Anhu. To displease him is to displease Hazrat Nabi

Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and to displease

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is to

went to Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi

said, You were quite right in refusing to utter that

word. But you could have said this much in reply:

O, Abu Bakr, May Allah Taala forgive you!

Look at the fear of Allah Taala in Hazrat Abu

Bakr Raziyallahu Anhu. He is so anxious to clear his

accounts in this world, that no sooner has a

slightly unpleasant word been addressed by him to

    It appears in the hadeeth:

    ]]n^k]jj

The dunya (world) was created for you and

you were created for the hereafter.

This means that every creation of Allah

Taala as been created for the benefit of man

irrespective of how small or large it is; be it thesky, the moon, the sun etc. if they did not exist,

then life for man would have been very difficult.

On the other hand, if man did not exist,

these creations would have not been affected the

least bit, because man was not created for them.

Instead, man was created for the hereafter and for

the ibaadat (worship) of Allah Taala as mentioned

    in the Quran:

    ^k]r$]]$nf

I have only created jinn and man for My

    worship. [51:56]

    Respect for Asaatizah (Teachers)

    Do not offend your Asaatizah

If, Allah forbid, you showed disrespect to

your Asaatizah or were rude to them, then

immediately, with total humility, ask their

    A strange story about forgiveness

It was the era of Hazrat Hasan Basri

Rahmataullahi Alaihi. There was a female student who

always attended his lectures. She had a son and a

son and a husband who had a good business. She

was a pious woman. Her husband died when she

was still young. She thought, If I remarry, I will

get a husband but my son may not benefit. His

step father may mistreat him. She therefore

decided not to remarry and sacrificed her desires

for the sake of his child.

A Hadith says that a woman, who does not

remarry so that she can look after her children,

will be rewarded as if she were spending her whole

life as a ghazi, a Muslim warrior. This is she

because did jihad with her desires and looked after

    her children.

She looked after him at home to the best of

her ability, but had no control over him when he

youth and money, which completely blinded him.

He was unconscious, and led a life according to hisdesires. He fell into bad company, and became a

drunkard and an adulterer. His mother would try

and council him, but to no avail.

She took him to Hazrat Hasan Basri

Rahmatullahi Alaihi, who continually tried to show him

his folly, but nothing helped. Hazrat Hasan BasriRahmatullahi Alaihi that may be Allah Taala had

time. Repent; ask forgiveness from Allah Taala,

    he is most forgiving.

Her son was affected by her words, and

asked, how shall I repent? I have committedmajor sins!

His mother suggested they visited Hazrat

Hasan Basari Rahmatullahi Alaihi and ask him. He

replied that he was too weak to go and hold her

that since there was no means of carrying him

there, it was best for her to ask Hazrat Hasan

Basri Rahmatullahi Alaihi to come home.

He then said. If, on your return, you find

me dead, ask Hazrat Hasan Basri Rahmatullahi

Alaihi to perform my funeral prayer.

Hazrat Hasan Basri Rahmatullahi Alaihi had

just had his afternoon meal and intended to take a

short rest before his next lecture, when he heard a

knock on the door. He asked who it was. His

He said, When I die, rope me up and pullmy body into the courtyard, like one would do to a

of the one who was disobedient to his Lord and his

parents, He then said, Do not burry me in the

graveyard, burry me in the courtyard of thehouse. I do not want to be the cause of pain to the

other grave dwellers. Allah Taala heard this plea

    and immediately took his life.

The mother was just shutting her sons eyes

when she heard a knock on the door. She

enquired who it was, and Hazrat Hasan Basri

Rahmatullahi Alaihi replied that it was he. He said,

After I told you I would not come, I went to take

a rest and fell asleep. In my dream, Allah Taala

    told me,

Hasan Basri, what kind of a friend are you?

You have refused to perform the funeral

prayer of one of a wali of mine! I then to

understood that Allah Taala has accepted

He completed many recitations even at other

Hazrat Imam Kurduri says: If you bring

saying: Recitation of the Quran in less than threedays is prohibited for that person for whom the
