To be a part of the management group is not merely a privilege, but
also a massive responsibility. You are responsible to the game of cricket,
the cricketers, the members who make up the association and the vast
number of followers of the game, without whose patronage cricket
wouldn’t be the vibrant, popular sport that it is.
When our team came into office less than three years back, our main
focus was on fulfilling expectations and embracing responsibility. That
included addressing the expectations of three constituents, namely –
cricketers, association members and cricket enthusiasts.
Upgradation of cricketing infrastructure, taking necessary steps to
ensure that we were in sync with the times and making our functioning
transparent to all the stakeholders were a priority.
The privilege of being in a position of leadership is always tempered
by the necessity to live up to the challenges that invariably come with
that role. This report card of the performances of this team over the last
three years or so will hopefully be an initiative that will continue in the
future, because we owe it to everyone connected with the game and,
more specifically, with Karnataka cricket to keep them abreast of the
developments and progress that the KSCA has been making.
Three years back, we came in armed with a vision, with a dream to
take things to the next level. As I reflect on this period, I feel a sense of
satisfaction at what has been done thus far. I am grateful to my team for
their exemplary contributions.
While there is always scope for progress and improvement which is
something we can never afford to lose sight of in any walk of life, I state
with confidence that the committee for 2010–2013 has raised the bar.
INTRODUCTIONFrom Anil Kumble, Hon. President, KSCA
The Karnataka State Cricket Association is widely recognised and hailed as one of the model units in Indian cricket, as much for its performances and the conduct of players on the field in various grades, as due to the manner in which this Association is run.

The new Cricket Committee felt an urgent need to revamp as well as
restructure the cricketing calendar and the format to ensure young
cricketers are able to cope with the demands of modern-day cricket.
A four-day format was introduced for the Safi Darashah tournament
which was conducted across eight grounds simultaneously. This tour-
nament has received positive feedback from all participating teams.
The RC-KSCA Academy is functional across all seven zones (including
Bangalore) and has ensured that cricket in Karnataka is truly inclusive.
Free summer camps conducted across the state were a tremendous
success with over 5900 aspirants turning up for the selection trials.
An ongoing competency development program for coaches employed
by the RC-KSCA Academy will ensure that quality coaches serve
cricket in the state in the years to come.
The association has overseen an unprecedented growth in the number
of turf wickets across Karnataka. Cricketers of all age groups and levels
now have access to quality playing conditions. Modern pavilions with
dressing rooms have been built in Mysore, Hubli and Alur. Pavilions in
Shimoga and Belgaum are currently under construction with Raichur
to follow suit.
While the focus remains on the future, cricketers of yore who served
Karnataka with distinction have been recognized when the association
enhanced their ex-gratia payments.
Given the vastly improved quality of playing conditions, support
infrastructure and the application of modern technologies towards
skill development, such as (CVBC – Cognitive Video Based Coaching
technique), it can be safely assumed that a strong foundation has been
laid for cricket in Karnataka.

The committee took up a mandate of modernizing administrative
functions at the KSCA and to usher in systems based on meritocracy
and transparency. A number of initiatives were therefore implemented:
were created and a performance driven, career management practice
was implemented during this tenure.
scaling up of operations.
been integrated into the structure to ensure an inclusive culture
across the state.
The KSCA IMS is a management initiative offering a comprehensive
information and operations management infrastructure in order to
moderate and monitor the wide spread operations of KSCA. The IMS
system covers the following functions:
IMS is designed to ensure a seamless flow of information covering
both sporting and non-sporting activities, while minimizing errors
and improving accuracy of information. People-centric processes have
been replaced by a more efficient policy-driven process. All decisions
are made using on the ground and real-time information.
ADMINISTRATIVE INITIATIVESModernizing systems and procedures
The system also provides integration with tournament management
requirements and with the ERP system to ensure optimal deployment
and utilization of assets.
For a player, the system provides comprehensive profile information
including real-time statistics starting from the point of self-registration
right through the selection and tournament processes. This centralized
information is accessible to officials and also provides an environment
of transparency and inclusivity.
ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE

92 93
Events managed by the KSCA need to comply with numerous internal
processes and policies, and be coordinated with external agencies such
as the local police force and government agencies. IMS’s event
management module allows for assignment of tasks and the tracking of
activity completion. All these processes are integrated with a financial
system and function under optimal budget control.
Built-in automated systems ensure the timely availability of accurate
and key information as and when required by KSCA management.

Environmental friendly decisions
Fledgling steps have been taken by piloting a solar power generation
experiment on the stadium roof top for which a feasibility report has
been prepared. This project has the full support of the government
in Karnataka. Rainwater harvesting has been implemented at the M
Chinnaswamy Stadium and will soon be a reality at the Alur grounds
as well.

ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE
FINANCEIntegrated information system
The four cornerstones of any financial accounting and reporting
system should be – its ability to provide agility (for eg. launching new
ventures and programs), facilitate collaborative demands (eg. quick
response and unified data processing), ensure mandated compliance
(conformance with statutory laws ) and build process efficiencies (eg.
data accuracy, thoroughness, promptness and consistency).
The last few years witnessed a manifold increase in the scale of KSCA’s
operations. In order to meet the requirements of an agile and scalable
organization, the Managing Committee adopted an advanced ERP
(Enterprise Resource Package) solution – a single integrated program
that automates most business processes as well as resultant financial
accounting entries, in real time.
The investment in technology ensures state-of-the-art features that
include functionality across various platforms, intuitive user interface
and inter-operability across various web-based and mobile devices.
Areas covered by the software range from accounting and inventory
management to all management needs.

Hubli ground and at the Gangotri Glades ground in Mysore. Similar
pavilions are also being built in the Shimoga and Raichur facilities
while Alur boasts of a modern pavilion that caters to both ground 2

“It was a wonderful experience to organise the Karnataka-Haryana Ranji Trophy match at KSCA ground, Rajnagar. That match proved the organising capacityof the Dhar-wad Zone. The allotment of India ‘A’ and West Indies ‘A’ match has come as a fitting reward for the successful conduct of the Karnataka-Haryana match.” PROF. VASANT MURDESHWAR

“Our choice of KSCA (to host India ‘A’ vs West Indies ‘A’) is based on the fact that you have developed excellent facilities at
Mysore, Shimoga and Hubli apart from the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Banglore.”

SPECIALPROJECTS
114 115A tribute was paid to the Late. Sri M Chinnaswamy, the founder mem-
ber of KSCA, by unveiling a bust at the entrance to the pavilion by His
Excellency the Governor of Karnataka.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations, albeit late in coming were con-
ducted in a gala manner with a galaxy of Indian cricket greats which
included former India captains and the piece-de-resistance was the
presence of Sir Richard Hadlee as the Chief Guest.
A feasibility study and an implementation plan have been prepared
to create a state-of-the-art museum at the Northern Stand on a BOT
(Build-Operate-Transfer) model which awaits approval of the general
body.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Managing an association brings with it a myriad of unique challenges. While commitment, enthu-siasm and enterprise are necessary ingredients, we learnt very early that our achievements are also dependent on the active support of a wide network of people, who we believe is the true enthusiast and a well-wisher of Karnataka Cricket. It is to these people that we remain indebted.
We have received unstinting support from our Members and Affiliated
Clubs. The Government of Karnataka and its various departments have
backed us while the Karnataka Police Force have been proactive in
ensuring that security and other hurdles are overcome smoothly.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, the Bangalore Water Sup-
ply and Sewerage Board as well as the Karnataka Power Transmission
Corporation Ltd. have ensured that there were no hitches in running
the association be it a match day or a normal day in the office.
Without the co-operation of the various Ground Authorities of the
city and in the Zones and also the Zonal Committees and Convenors,
we could not have carried out the extensive cricketing activities that
we have managed. Our dedicated panel of doctors, sub-committees,
organizations, individuals and sponsors have ensured that cricketers
remain focussed in their pursuit of excellence.
Special mention needs to be made of both our Audit and Technical
Committees, whose members, all highly rated professionals, lent their
invaluable time to further the KSCA cause.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, has been a guiding force.
Staff of both the KSCA and the Club House have risen to the occasion
repeatedly, enabling us to meet expectations day in and day out. As
always, the media attention we have received has been constructive and
positive and we are indeed grateful.
The support received from all those who are not mentioned above is
humbly acknowledged and any omission is unintentional.
From Javagal Srinath, Hon. Secretary, KSCA
