The program is not terribly difficult for students to operate, but there are places where students may cause themselves needless trouble if they’re not aware.

This tutorial assumes that students know what an artifact is, how to create one, and that students have in fact created artifacts within their Tk20 accounts.  Any students who are not cognizant of artifacts should first take the “Artifacts” tutorial.

All Tk20 users start at the same login screen.

The URL for the login screen is “https://fsc.tk20.com.”  Note the “s” on “https” and the lack of a “www” at the start of the URL.

The initial login is the student’s FSC email username.  The password is the Falcon Key, the same password as used by the email and BlackBoard systems.

Once students are successfully logged in, they reach a welcome screen.  Note the red flag indicating an assignment that needs to be completed.  There may be several of these from different courses.  Students may also be asked to complete portfolios, surveys, and other work that bypasses the course faculty and come from the major department or other parts of the College.

Occasionally, students may receive assigned portfolios ‐‐ or course or field experience binders – which are not linked to the Home screen These may be accessed by clicking thebinders  which are not linked to the Home screen.  These may be accessed by clicking the appropriate tab (courses, portfolios, or field experience) along the back of the screen, next to the Home tab.

Binders and portfolios are extensive projects that may require students to amass a great deal of evidence from different sources, including coursework but not limited to it.  For example, students may be required to submit a certificate indicating completion of an online workshop, or a video clip of a speech presented off‐campus.  Binders and portfolios are organized around “tabs.”

The difference between a binder and a portfolio is that a binder is assigned at the course level while a portfolio is often assigned by an academic department and is sent to studentslevel, while a portfolio is often assigned by an academic department and is sent to students in many classes simultaneously.  A senior exit portfolio that is required for graduation from a departmental course of study is an example.

Here’s what an announcement via the message system might look like.  This is a clickable link that takes the student to a more detailed message.

Clicking the link or the “Portfolio” tab followed by the “portfolios” link in the sidebar brings the student here.

Clicking the portfolio hyperlink brings us to the tabs on the portfolio itself.  This portfolio is organized around the departmental learning outcomes, but there are a limitless number of ways to set a portfolio up.

Each tab contains instructions and additional materials required for adding artifacts to the portfolio.  In this case, completion of a predefined, guided reflection form for each artifact is necessary.

Click the “Attach (artifact format)” link for the first or only artifact.  This link is called a “placeholder,” and if it is not replaced during the attachment of an artifact, it will prevent the portfolio from being routed forward.  USE the “ADD NEW” button only for additional artifacts or to replace one that you have deletedartifacts, or to replace one that you have deleted.

Artifacts are not uploaded directly to particular assignments.  They are uploaded to an artifact “bank” first.  They will be COPIED from the bank when the assignment is submitted to the faculty member, but artifacts remain in student accounts until deleted.  They can be attached to multiple assignments, entered into portfolios, or simply retained securely for use at some indeterminate later time.

Clicking the “Attach file” hyperlink brings us to the list of artifacts.

Let’s select the MATH 2600 lab assignment and click “Add.”

Before we can save this submission, we have to add the student reflection on the item.

As always, students need to click the “Save” (or, in the case of the reflection for, “Add”)  button when they finish their reflections.  This student would have to scroll down to find it.

If the faculty member or department wishes, students may add as many additional items to the tab as desired.  They will prompted to associate them with standards and reflection templates as they do.

Binders and portfolios are typically not submitted until completed, though faculty may change that default, if they wish.
