What are Steroids?

• Anabolic Steroids are defined as any drug(s) or hormonal substance(s), chemically related to testosterone, a male hormone that promotes muscle growth

• steroid use is associated to athletic competitions and/or athletes trying to gain a competitive edge

How they are taken

• Steroids are usually injected with a needle directly into the blood stream or into the muscle.

• There are also pills or gel tabs that are taken orally, or creams that are rubbed onto the skin.

History• In the 1930's, scientists were able to produce a

artificial form of testosterone to help treat men who were unable to produce enough of the hormone for normal, healthy growth.

• During World War II it was discovered that this form of artificial testosterone could treat malnourished soldiers and make them gain weight and performance.

• After that, athletes began to use “steroids” to enhance their performance in competitions

• And since it has been used as a “shortcut to success”

and expected for them to do it too.• Many professional athletes today are using steroids its

just a matter of if they are caught, and when they are they usually receive a simple reprimand and suspension.

• In fact Human Growth Hormones are not banned by the NFL today.

In conclusion…• I believe it is a very dangerous and risky

chance when dealing with steroids. I imagine with the leeway they have been giving athletes in America its only a matter of time before some sort of anabolic steroid is legalized, as for worldwide and olympics and such it may take a little longer
