Details Liquisys M CLM 223 / 253 provides asolution for all drinking water
processing, process water and wastewater treatment applications.
Contacting or electrodeless
Two instrument versions formeasurement with contacting (two-
electrode) measuring cells or
electrodeless sensors are available. Theuse of electrodeless sensors that are
less sensitive to soiling than contactingmeasuring cells is recommended for
concentration measurement or adheringmedia.
Features of the basic version (CD / ID):
Measurement of conductivity or
specific resistanceThis is selected via the menu. During
measurement, the value measured can
be displayed in the other measuringmode. The temperature is displayed at
the same time if desired.
Temperature compensation selectionsavailable are linear ( = 0 means no
temperature compensation) or specialultrapure water compensation (NaCl
curve) according to IEC 746. Thereference temperature is 77 F (25 C).
Different alarms are required depending
on application and operator. Therefore
the Liquisys M CLM 223 / 253 permitsindependent configuration of the alarm
contact and error current for eachindividual error. Unnecessary or
undesirable alarms can be suppressedin this manner.
Up to four contacts can be used as limit
contacts (also for temperature), to
implement a PID controller or forcleaning functions.
Direct manual operation of the
contacts (bypassing the menu) providesquick access to limit, control or cleaning
contacts, permitting speedy correction ofdeviations.
The serial numbers of the instrumentand modules and the order code can be
called up on the display.
The cell constant can be edited andeven calibrated for demanding special
applications.
The CS / IS version provides additionalfunctions:
Electrodeless sensors must normally be
installed in pipes at a required minimumdistance from the pipe wall. If this
minimum distance is not observed, themeasured value changes. The built-in
adaptive calibration feature can be
used to compensate for this once thesensor is installed.
In order to display wide measuring
ranges while still achieving a highresolution in certain ranges, the current
output can be configured as requiredvia a table. This permits bilinear or
quasi-logarithmic curves.
The live check issues an alarm whenthe sensor signal does not change over
a defined period of time. This may be
caused by blocking, passivation, orseparation from the process.
Ultrapure water monitoring according to
USP 24 means that the uncompensatedconductivity and the temperature are
measured and compared to a table. TheLiquisys M CLM 223 / 253 (contacting)comes with this function, and the
user-adjustable pre-alarm indicatesundesirable operating values in due
time. Full compliance with USP 24requires the use of a precisely calibrated
measuring cell, for example, the CLS 15.
The conversion from conductivity toconcentration is effected using four
user-definable concentration curves.
This permits concentrations to bedisplayed directly in % or ppm, i.e. as
TDS (total dissolved salts solids).

The sensor and process checksystem also indicates any polarization
of the contacting measuring cell. Since
there is no subdivision into severalmeasuring ranges (the full range from
0 to 2000 mS/cm is available at alltimes), the measuring range is limited by
the cell constant only. Polarization
detection then determines whether ornot the working range determined by the
measuring cell is exceeded.

All connections to the panel-mountedinstrument CLM 223 are established via
the terminal strips on the rear.
In the case of the field instrument CLM
253, all wires (including the measuringcell cable) are connected to terminals in
a separate wiring compartment.
All the wiring can remain in place if theinstrument needs repair because all
repairs are limited to assemblyreplacement. So, dismantling the
instrument and rewiring are no longernecessary.
