Adding a hierarchy to the crosstab

There are multiple ways to add a hierarchy

Drag directly onto the crosstab

Drag onto the Layout panel

… or use the Data panel buttons



Filtering members

To filter members you right-click on thehierarchy name in the Layout panel and

choose Filter > By Member…

But a much faster way to open the Filter taskpanel is to simply double-click on the

hierarchy in the Layout panel.



Inserting a crosstab or chart

Analysis OLAP allows a maximum of 4 crosstabs or charts per sheet, in a 2x2 layout.

They are automatically added by following a pattern.

But you can drag a crosstab or chart directly off the toolbar and place it wherever you want.



Tips



Sort in chronological order

Analysis, edition for OLAP, offers several ways to sort data Values can be sorted smallest – largest or largest – smallest

Members can be sorted alphabetically A – Z or Z – A

But applying an alphabetic sort to date

members gives an unexpected result…

When more than one representation is

available, Analysis OLAP allows you to sort on

one representation while displaying the other…



Creating custom calculations

There are 2 ways to create custom calculations in Analysis OLAP…

For quick calculations, CTRL-click two

members then open the Calculations menu

With custom calculations, choose the

function first, double-click on operandN to

select it, then choose Add Member



Screen real estate

Analysis, edition for OLAP, automatically adjusts itself to make maximum use of the size of thebrowser window. The analysis window contains the crosstabs and charts. There are several

ways to increase the size of this space…

Press F11 (full screen mode in all browsers)

Collapse the Task panel

Hide the Layout panel



Moving crosstabs and charts

Crosstabs and charts can be moved within an analysis window by clicking on its title bar anddragging. As you drag a grey box will show where the crosstab or chart will be placed.

To move a crosstab or chart to a different sheet…

Click on the crosstab or chart

Click on the Copy button or press CTRL-C Select the destination sheet

Click on the Paste button or press CTRL-V

Delete the original crosstab or chart



Configuration Best Practices



Create a separate APS

The out of the box configuration is for a demo environment on a single machine. e.g. all

services run under one APS.

For production installations we recommend a dedicated APS is used for the MDAS (multi-

dimensional analysis service). In the CMC visit…

CMC Home > Servers > Servic e Categories> Analysi s Services

Stop the AdaptiveProcessingServer

Choose Select Services from the Actions

menu

Remove the Multi Dimensional Analysis

Service

From the Manage menu choose New Server Set the Service Category to Analysis

Services and choose MDAS for the service

Give the new server a name and click

Create

Enable the new server, then start all servers




“Safety belt” defaults

Analysis edition for OLAP is pre-configured with certain “safety belt” defaults. These can be

changed in the CMC…

CMC Home > Servers > Servers L ist > Adapt iveProcessingServer > Propert ies > MDAS

Maximum Client Sessions: The default is conservatively set to 15

but in most cases can be comfortably

set to 45, up to a maximum of 100

Maximum number of cells returned by a

query: The default value is 100,000 cells

For SAP HANA, change this default

from 100,000 to 500,000 cells

Maximum number of members returned

when filtering: The default value is 100,000 members

If there are more than 100,000

members, they can be found using

search




By default an SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence installation has all services and

servers enabled and running.

Remove from each Adaptive Processing Server all services that are not required

Disable and stop all servers that are not needed and uncheck the Automatically start this

server… option in the server’s properties

For installations with more than 45 concurrent users, increase the heap of the dedicated

MDAS APS from 1g to 4g by changing the – Xmx value in the Command Line Parameters

Features




Conditional formatting color palette

Analysis OLAP uses colors and symbols to highlight exceptions.

The number beside the color is the priority with 1 being the highest. When cells have more

than one conditional format rule, the highest priority is displayed.

Click Invert to instantly flip the priority of the current colors.

Click Edit to change the color palette or symbols





To change any color or symbol, select theone you want to change from the left, then

click what you want to change it to from

the selection on the right

Quickly choose one of the predefinedpalettes by clicking an upper arrow for

shades of red or green, hot & cold, etc.





Use the Preview option to see a live update as you define rules




Auto update (query on demand)

Analysis, edition for OLAP, is very interactive and automatically updates the data with every

action you take.

But if you know what data you want, it is faster to turn off the auto-update feature.

Click Auto Update

The crosstab or chart will be disabled but you can still use the Layout panel to change, add or

remove hierarchies, filters, sorts, conditional formatting, calculations, etc.

Click the refresh icon at any time to update the crosstab or chart with the current changes (query ondemand)

Click Auto Update to turn auto update back on again




Focused analysis

Focused analysis visualizes selected data to bring attention to hidden data without changing

the scope of the analysis

Focused analysis

When focused analysis is enabled, only the cells selected in the crosstab (analysis) are

displayed in the chart (sub-analysis)




Linking & unlinking a sub-analysis

When you insert a crosstab, by default it is an analysis.

When you insert a chart, if there is a crosstab then the chart is a sub-analysis and it is linked

to the analysis.

Any changes made to the crosstab are automatically visualized in the chart

Each analysis can have many sub-analyses

With focused analysis notice how the sub-analysis only displays the selected cells in the analysis




Linking & unlinking a sub-analysis

At any time you can unlink a sub-analysis. It then becomes its own independent analysis.

This is very useful when exploring data because when you find something interesting, insert a

crosstab as a sub-analysis then unlink it.




Analysis views

Both Analysis, edition for OLAP and Analysis, edition for MS Office, can create analysis views.

These analysis views can then be treated as a data source by Crystal Reports and Web

Intelligence.

They can also be used by the Analysis clients to build a library of analyses.

These can be shared and added in any combination to new and existing Analysis

worksheets.
