The Kooks – Shine On

This type of digipack has a monochrome style, the graphics itself are not very complicated, it is quite minimalistic. In order to produce a successful digipack, the same font and colours must be consistent through the whole design, and this is what this digipack does. They have opted for a black and white design which me myself think it one of the best ways to go, it is so simple yet so effective. The font for the main headings are very bold, this is so that it can attract the attention of the public. A smaller and less bold version of the same font has been chosen for the parts of the digipack where there is a lot more writing, the bio for example.

The actual graphics for the cover of the digipack are very interesting, they will 100% attract people towards it. The main image has been edited so that the shape of the head has been split in to squares with different images in these squares. It is very unusual and hasn’t been seen before, that is why it would be so eye catching. The squares on the edge of the head fade in to the background which works really well because black/grey/white all fade great in to eachother. I may take some ideas from this front cover when creating my own digipack due to it being so successful.

The back is again very minimal due to it basically being all white apart from the far left and top left that displays information for the public to read in order to gather more information about the song/album.

Lana Del Rey – Born to Die

It is clear what the main image of this digipack is trying to do, it is trying to tell us what kind of person the artist is. It shows us Lana’s beauty as well as her well sophisticated dress sense, her well done hair is also a huge feature, these elements tell the public that Lana Del Rey is not a wild character in her normal life. The image is a medium shot showing the top half of her body while she is staring straight in to the camera, this will entice the public to want to purchase the item.

The design is not complicated in any way, shape or form, which is the same as most Lana Del Rey albums, posters and adverts, it seems as if she prefers this approach due to it being the most effective. It shows off her vintage style which is what her target audience associate her with. Her nude lipstick gives her an innocent look which adds to the sophisticate look she has.

There are so many things that the front cover symbolizes and tell us regarding the type of effect she wants to give off, the genre, her target audience. We can tell that the genre is Indie as the picture is taken outside which is regularly seen within the Indie genre. The colour scheme reflects youth which reinstates that her target audience is in fact a young one.

Take That – Progress

The image represents exactly what Take That were all about at the time, making progress, how much progress they’ve made and ‘new’ friendships they’ve made with previous band members eg. Robbie Williams. It’s highly likely that the album would not have been as attractive if Take That were not as big of a band as they are, it probably would not have caught the eye of as many people. The image represents the song as it looks like evolution and how man came from apes, which links with the album cover title.

The colour scheme is very bright and stands out a lot, this would be the main feature in attracting the publics attention. You can also link the colours yellow and orange with a new day, which would again link back to the album title, meaning they take each day as it comes as they make progress. The font of the name of the band and title of the album is in a dull font which I don’t think would attract the audience much even though it was a number one album, I feel it wasn’t because of how attractive the album cover was.

This album was at number 1 in that charts at one point but I’m more than sure that the actual album cover didn’t help in it getting downloads and sales. Even the font used for the title is a very dull one and not eye catching at all.
