- 1. TASK 3ANALYSIS OF A MAGAZINE IN MY GENRE -KERRANG! By Steven Knowles
2. ABOUT KERRANG UK based magazine that started on the6th June 1981 and is purely based on therock genre. Bauer Media Group is the publisher ofthis magazine. Founded by Geoff Barton. Based in London. 42,077 is the circulation a of July 2012. Weekly magazine. Used to be a one time supplement in theSounds Newspaper. Original owner was United Newspapers. 3. COVER PAGE MAIN IMAGE The main image is of the rock bandMuse. It is a three shot medium close up whichenables the reader to see theirexpressions. They all look proud andrelaxed. This links with the coverline,Muse The unstoppable rise of BritainsBiggest Band as they seem proud andhappy about this. They also seem to come out of the pageas they are over the masthead. Black clothes directly link with the rockgenre of music. 4. COVER PAGEMASTHEAD The masthead is a consistent font andsize in every edition of the KERRANG!Magazine. The only thing that changes isthe colour. Always in the same position andstretched across the whole page. Magazine is mainly focused on Rock. The masthead is either behind or in frontof the image. Distinct feature of the masthead allowsinstant recognition by the audience. 5. COVER PAGE COVERLINES The main coverline relates to the mainimage as it does on every magazine. Ittells readers the brilliance of Muse andhow they are the biggest band in Britainand STILL rising. The other coverlines all relate to thecontents inside the magazine and make itappeal to the audience, like the coverlineHUGE FREE POSTERS! or FREEGIANT POSTERS!. No real house colour style for thecoverlines. Sans Serif font. Arranged in a kind of C pattern startingat the masthead this time. 6. CONTENTS PAGE Main image shows a picture of the rockrelentless tour. Masthead is used for the sub-heading/ There is also a note from the deputyeditor. Contents is laid out with headingssignifying categories. Credit for the photographer who tookpictures for the cover and contentspages. Adverts about kerrang! and how youcan pay to get it delivered to your door. Contains issue number and cover date. 7. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD This double page spread is of the relentless tour in 2010. It is a review of the tour. There is also a caption in the top right hand corner which is the masthead. There is credit for the editor and photographer on the left hand side. Lots of images of the tour around the double page spread. Uses the conventions of a drop cap which takes up four lines. Page number is at the bottom left and next to it is a smaller version of the magazine masthead. 8. HOUSE STYLE OF KERRANG! MAGAZINE Cover page The masthead on every edition is the same font and always stretched across the wholepage. Coverlines generally follow the C pattern and the rule of thirds. Contents page All contain the masthead KERRANG! as the sub-heading. Always contains issue number and cover date. Note from editor or deputy editor. Double page spread Drop caps Main image and article
