Product analysis
Investigating and understanding how shape, style
and proportion affect the appearance of a product
are key skills in designing.
But what other aspects should be considered when analysing a product?• function, what is it’s intended use? • how effective does it function?
• is it easy to look after or maintain? • what materials have been used? • sustainability of the product and the materials? • how easy or safe is it to use – ergonomics
Evaluating products in this investigative way is
called product analysis
Product analysis :
For the next task we are going to analyse storage products, that others have designed
and made. Its helpful to have a checklist of aspects that you think are important when looking at storage products e.g. easy to use, materials, cost etc.When you are evaluating you can also
think about:
• is it possible to make a better product and how? • and possible ideas for your storage product.

Look carefully at the ‘storage handling collection’ – this may be, an actual collection of products in your school or a digital collection. Discuss with other pupils in the group,
