VIDEO My music video is R&B and shows the story of a husband having a motorcycling accident then looking back on his life and what he has lost. The family shown in the video are mainly in colour in the scenes where the husband is no longer present which shows that they are living without him while the flashbacks are mainly done in black and white to show that they are old memories and in the past.

The duration of the clips I have decided to use are short which is a convention of the form. I have used other colours such as greens and reds to show the genre and red is also a connotation for danger.

My video includes a narrative which is intertwined with shots of the artist alone lip syncing the song.

The overall emotion I intended to come across was empathy which I believe works. I have also used a syntax that is not a conventional order by beginning with the end and showing the past with flashbacks mixing it with the present and ending with the present. I have used a reverse syntax at the start to open the video.

DIGIPAK My first draft of my digipak was black and white and didn’t fit the genre well. My final draft includes a colour theme of maroon, black and white and has a more interesting image on the cover that I created using the photo effects on Photoshop. It appears to fit R&B as it is slightly edgy and unusual, with the theme colours and a representation of the artist and his lifestyle, creating a brand. The image is also alike the clips used in my video which creates continuity and links the products.

The text I have used is in fitting with the genre and the artists brand as it is soft but still engaging and is similar to other text already used within the genre. My product follows the conventions of having a track list on the back and a barcode with the record label logo and price in the corner. Equally I used the album name and artist name on the spine and front cover which is another commonly used convention.

MAGAZINE ADVERTISEMENT

My magazine advert has improved from my first draft as it now uses the same colour themes and text as my digipak creating continuity. Equally is shows the album name, the artists name, the record label, date of release, form of release (online), the star rating and reviews. These are all conventions of a magazine advert I found while I was conducting my research into magazine adverts for album releases.

It is often the case that the album is advertised to be released for streaming and digital download as these are modern forms of consumption for music that are most common in todays society.

Because of this reason I also included the logo of iTunes and Spotify to appeal to my target audience and communicate that the tracks are also available in digital form.

MEDIA LANGUAGECinematographyMy music video uses a variety of shots to make it interesting for the audience. I chose to use point of view shots to show what the artist is seeing, as well as mid shots and close ups when the artist is singing. I have used establishing shots of the location of the motorbike scene before his accident.

EditingI have edited my music video to create a final product that is easy for the audience to watch without many jump cuts, however I have used some jump shots for impact. A majority of my shots are edited to link and flow smoothly. I used Premier Pro to edit, and explored the range of edits that were available in my video.

SoundThe sound I have used is a pre recorded track of ‘Jealous’ by Labyrinth.

Mise en sceneThe mise en scene I used shows a family home and normal family living, however I have chosen to dress my artist all in white as a connotation he has a ghostly presence. The other mise en scene that is present is the studio I used for recording the lip sync clips, which is used to appear as though the artist is recording the song, a convention of the form.

REPRESENTATIONSocial GroupsThe social group I have chosen to represent within my media products are working class people that work to be able to provide for their family. I have shown this in the clothes that my actors have worn, which didn’t appear to be too expensive. Equally I have shown this in the locations I have used which were dull and basic, a park showed that the family spend time together in places that are generally located by working class people. However I believe my music video will appeal to people from all classes and backgrounds as it demonstrates the themes of family, love and loss, which everyone can relate too.

IdeologyThe ideology behind my media products is that family and love are the key elements of happiness and life, and when that is taken away people become unhappy. I show that it is idolized to have the perfect family unity and when a family is broken it causes pain and jealousy of a united family. This is a theme within the lyrics of the song which I found in my lyric analysis and I have decided to use this as a concept in my video and ancillary products.

AUDIENCETarget audienceThe target audience for my music video and ancillary texts is a young audience from the age of 14 to about the age of 25. From any country that speaks English as that is the language of the song. The target audience for my music video will mainly be female although males will also be able to relate to the narrative and plot. I believe that the media products I have produced will appeal to this audience.
