Career Opportunities with Analytics
WHAT IS ANALYTICS ???
“Analytics is the discovery of meaningful patterns in a given set of data”
Source : Wikipedia
– Too much information in various different formats– 80% of data is unstructured … the challenge is put it all together and
make sense– Analytics provides lucrative business opportunities, certainty and
predictability in decision making process– Spot hidden trends, predict outcomes in everything from weather
forecasting to transportation scheduling to financial performance
Analytics is “converting information to insights”
What have we learnt
Analytics - Examples
Finance
Business Problem : How to check credit worthiness of 1st time borrowers.Issues: No credit scoresHow to get the data : We need to get some feedback on customers from some 3rd party. So the bank companies approached Telecom companies for the payment history of their customers.
On the basis of the payment patterns from telecom, utilities and other parameters such as Income, age etc. they deduced an algorithm to predict their credit worthiness. This model came out to be 85 % accurate , reducing the number of defaulters significantly.
Analytics - Examples
Marketing
Business Problem : Reduce customer churn of good customers
• Applied analytics on various parameters like monthly bill, VAS usage, timely payments etc. to figure out the “Good” customers.
• Studied patterns to understand which customers might leave and provided customized offers for every customer based on their behavior which are most likely to help in retention.
This model came out to be 70 % accurate , reducing the number of churn.
Analytics - Examples
Operations
Business Problem : Optimize inventory across locations.Approach : Applied Analytics on parameters such as Purchase trends, Income group, age distribution and many more.
Based on this Inventory optimization, Best Product Mix, Offer optimization was achieved across numerous locations
An increase of 5% in sales was achieved.
Analytics - Examples
HR
• What if you could predict which high performers were at risk of leaving six months before they walked out the door?
• What if you could merge external data with your own business metrics to project workforce demand six, nine or even eighteen months from now?
• What if you could triage incoming resumes overnight to predict employee success and tenure – before you hire?
These are key questions that we believe you should consider addressing with Workforce Analytics
Why should I care about it ?
