The residential zone was located on the east resting mostly on rocky cliff formations allowing for more privacy. The Anantara Resort was positioned on the west portion open directly to the only beach area on the site and allowing access to guests and residences. Positioned across the lagoon from the main hotel for extra privacy, the hotel villas create a secluded oasis for exclusive guests. The lobby is at the heart of the resort creating a central point for guests to access information and other needs throughout their stay. Taking advantage of a high cliff over the rocky formations, the fine dining and sunset bar overlook the ocean waves, creating a dramatic experience with breathtaking views of the sunset over Tangalle bay.

Whether you are looking for cultural or nature excursions or the chance to explore the local region at leisure you will be well catered for here.The resort’s stylish interior design is by way of Wimberly Interiors, an interior design service originally created from the world famous architectural firm WATG back in 1997 to expand the firm’s interior design offering to architectural clients. Due to its increased success in 2011 the interior design service evolved to become its own unique brand, Wimberly Interiors. For the design concept the site was divided into two zones, the residential and the resort zone.

Whilst offering a naturally exclusive hideaway for exotic beach life in this tranquil corner of the world, the ambi-ence of the accommodation also reflects the rest of the resort’s exotic simplicity. Boasting 152 rooms including 32 pool villas, indigenous Sri Lankan design and locally sourced furnishings, artworks and artefacts are used throughout the spacious rooms and villas. Decorated in neutral tones, each Premier Room features a terrace or balcony which overlooks the gardens, or for a supplement the beach and ocean. For true indulgence the selection of villas, each of which features a private terrace with a plunge pool, are presented in a choice of garden, ocean view and beachside settings.

Designed by the leading architectural firm WATG in conjunction with local architect Mihindu Keerthiratne Associates, the vision for the resort was to focus on en-hancing the resort to accommodate the needs of local and international travelers in the area, as well as develop-ing the resort community in Tangalle. Inspired by the Sri Lankan architecture, the pristine Tangalle coastline and the existing coconut plantation, buildings are designed in a traditional Sri Lankan architectural style with contemporary flair.

High pitched Sri Lankan roof forms, with their elegant colonial style columns and contemporary details, were used to create a luxurious resort destination. The bright and breezy open spaces, set among groves of coconut palms, epitomize the best at capturing the Sri Lankan indigenous esthetic design, a hallmark of Anantara prop-erties around the world.
