TRANSCRIPT

In Adobe InDesign, I opened an A3 blank document for my double page spread for the listings magazine.

I decided to name the Documentary “Road to Acceptance” after the song of the same name by Green Day. Therefore I used the lyric “We’re all the same” from the song as the title of my article. Below my Headline, I used a strapline that leaves the readers wanted to read more. The strapline reveals that the documentary is about teenagers from music sub-cultures, which are stereotyped, and how they don’t always live up to the negative stereotypes they are given. I added in rectangles behind the strapline in order to make it stand out.

I added in some essential information for the article – such as the magazine name, the date, the website, who the article is written by and the page numbers.

Below the strapline I added in two lines and inbetween those lines I included the documentary title, the date and time, and the channel it will be aired on. Below this – also in between two lines – I included the article that I had written and justified the text. The first letter of the article was made bold and in a bigger font as a drop-caps. I put certain phrases in the article in italics and bold –such as AW Films, Music Nation, Road to Acceptance, etc. I put the text into two columns –like what the Radio Times do in there articles. I then created two more columns and put the rest of the article in it – I put these columns on the right side of the page as an image was going to be put into the centre of the articles.

I opened a photograph used in the documentary in Photoshop and cut the background out of it. I then altered the brightness and contrast settings and then smoothed out the edges of the image before placing it into my article. I wrapped the text around my image .

After getting audience feedback on my article for the listings magazine, I found that the background of my article was too simple. Therefore I decided to use the same image from my newspaper advert as a background image for my article.

I changed the size of my image to slightly smaller than A3 then added a Gaussian Blur at a radius of 7.0 Pixels to the image to make it less distracting. Additionally, I changed the opacity to 75% to also make it less distracting from the article

To make the article link more into the documentary and the Emo section of it. I decided to change sections of the article to red. For the headline, I changed the font of “We’re all the” to a less bold one and in italics, and changed “Same” to a font in capitals in red with a black outline to stand out. I also changed all the lines to red to link to this.

To link the strapline to the new colour palette, I changed the grey background to the same red colour. I also changed the font colour to white to stand out.

To make the top right corner less empty, I added in a common feature of a red box with the white font of “This week on TV”.

I organized my layers into folders to keep them organized.

This is my final doublePage spread for the Listings magazine:
