Media Evaluation

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Our Advert

Our advert combines effectively with our media product and other ancillary product as there is use of;

•Bright Colours

•Simplicity

•Relation to specific season

•Happiness

Our Album Cover

Our album cover links with our media product & advert in that it also is simplistic, has a happy vibe, is bright and colourful, cheery and has a summery feel.

We chose to use a bright, colourful, summery and happy feel to our ancillary texts and our overall media product due to the choice in song. Our song choice, “Alright” - Supergrass, is of Britpop genre which tends to follow conventions such as bright and cheery, though this song stands out from the rest as being a lot more bright & cheery as others tended to be based upon real life issues which were sometimes in a more negative perspective. The lyrics of the song we chose fit a very cheery vibe and from our audience research we got ideas of what people wanted in the video and felt they should see, these were usually along the lines of; Bright colours, Journey in a car, Happy People and Fun.

EffectivenessOverall the combination of both of ancillary texts and main product is very effective. This has been found from research and feedback by our target audience. Responses we received from our audience were that the bright colours used were effective in showing the Britpop connection and also in the happiness. The content used made people smile and laugh which was the effect we felt should have been achieved in this genre. The advert and CD cover follow the same structure in that they are simplistic and have the same style, i.e. both a field on a bright sunny day with simple white text. This allows the audience to relate between the two.
