THE members of the Jay DurgaAnchalika Krushak Sangathanon Tuesday demanded stream-lining of the token systemintroduced for paddy procure-ment in State.
“We don’t protest token sys-tem, but we protest the way it isimplemented,” said AswiniPruseth, the president of theorganization.
Pruseth and other memberssaid that if a farmer has 80 quin-tals of paddy, he is getting tokento sale 70 quintal.
“Then what he does with therest 10 quintals. There are twooptions left before him. Either hehas to sale the 10 quintal to themiller directly at much lowerprice or has to wait for nexttoken for 10 quintal. And whenhe gets the token for the rest 10quintals and go to market yardfor sale, he has to pay the vehiclerent in full that is another loss forhim,” said the farmers.
Hence, the token system isfaulty, they claimed.

THE Koregaon BhimaInquiry Commission hasdecided to summon NCP
chief Sharad Pawar for deposi-tion in the case of caste violencenear here in 2018.
The commission's chairman, retired Justice J N Patel, notedthat Pawar has filed an affidavitbefore the panel and he wouldbe summoned to depose, thejudicial panel's lawyer AshishSatpute told PTI on Tuesday.
"A summon to this effect willbe issued," he said. Pawar islikely to be summoned duringthe last phase of the hearing bythe commission, the lawyeradded.
Earlier this month, the ShivSena-led state government gavethe "final" extension to the com-mission till April 8 this year andasked the panel to submit itsreport.
Last week, social groupVivek Vichar Manch memberSagar Shinde filed an applica-
tion before the com-mission, seeking sum-moning of Pawar inview of certain state-ments made by him inthe media about the2018 caste violence.
In his plea, Shindecited a press confer-ence of Pawar held on February18. As per the application, at thepress meet Pawar alleged thatright-wing activists MilindEkbote and Sambhaji Bhide hadcreated a "different" atmospherein Koregaon-Bhima, located onoutskirts of Pune city, and itsvicinity. "In the same press con-ference, Mr Pawar also allegesthat the role of Pune city policecommissioner is doubtful andmust be investigated. Thesestatements are within thepurview of the terms of refer-ence of this commission andtherefore, they are relevant,"Shinde said the plea.
The applicant said he hasreasons to believe Pawar has rel-evant and additional informa-
tion, apart fromwhat he has alreadyshared in his earlieraffidavit filed beforethe panel regardingthe violence andother related mat-ters. Pawar filed theaffidavit before the
commission on October 8, 2018.The commission is headed byformer Bombay High CourtChief Justice J N Patel. FormerMaharashtra chief secretarySumit Mullick is the other mem-ber of the judicial panel. Thecommission was set up whenthe BJP was in power inMaharashtra.
Pawar's party is now a keyconstituent in the Shiv Sena-ledgovernment in the state. Theformer Union minister, in hisaffidavit, stated, "I would not bein a position to factually pointout the chronology of the saidevents as that would be thedomain of the existing law andorder machinery."
He also stated that he would
not be in a position to specifical-ly make allegations against anyparticular organisation.
"However, it is unfortunatethat the state government andlaw and enforcement authori-ties failed to protect the inter-est of the common man resid-ing at Koregaon Bhima and itsvicinity," he said.
Pawar further stated thatthe active role of "right- wing"forces behind the violence atKoregaon Bhima cannot beruled out. However, concreteevidence in this regard can begathered only by law enforce-ment agencies of the state, hesaid in the affidavit.
Gathering of anti-social ele-ments in large numbers atKoregaon Bhima indicated thefailure of law enforcementagencies, he told the panel."Hence, the state ofMaharashtra has to own theresponsibility of a failed lawand order situation onJanuary 1, 2018," hestated.–PTI
