Mission Appeal
The Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara (www.servidoras.org or www.ssvmmissions.org), a missionary
Institute of religious sisters, are happy to be given the opportunity to speak at St. Joseph—Immaculate
Conception for the mission appeal this weekend. From our beginnings in San Rafael, Argentina in 1988 we have
grown to over 1200 sisters missioning in almost 40 different countries throughout the world. We strive to go
where the presence of religious sisters is most needed. Although we are an international community, we have
been blessed with many vocations form the United States, a bit over 100 at present. This appeal allows us to
inform the members of your Parish about our mission work in Jordan. As you may imagine, our missions in places
like Jordan are in great need of support. The sisters work in several houses, providing education for children,
teenagers, and young women. They also have a home for children with special needs. Since most of the girls
come from poor families, the sisters also take care of the families by giving them some assistance. As you may
know, Jordan is not economically stable at present. For this reason missionaries do not receive much help from
the local people who very often themselves lack even basic necessities.
Thank you Msgr. Colacicco, for giving us this opportunity to speak at St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception and share
with you about our mission in Jordan. As we daily strive to help those in need, we are most grateful to all of you
for your prayers, contributions and generosity, truly a grace from God and a consolation for our missionary
sisters. Please be assured of our prayers for all of you as well!
Thank You Dear Msgr. Colacicco,
Birthright would like to thank you, the Women’s Guild and all the parishioners of St. Joseph-Immaculate
Conception Church for your ongoing support throughout these years. We are so grateful for the generous
donations of baby items, clothes, diapers and baby formula. It is such a comfort and affirmation of the work we
do at Birthright to know that we have your support.
This year we have been able to provide maternity clothes, baby clothes, diapers, formula and many other baby
items to over one hundred new moms along with over 250 existing clients and babies in most need. We have
welcomed many newborn babies with layettes, prepared with the generous donations we receive from
supporters like you.
Birthright also helps women and their families utilize the resources available to them in their community.
But most importantly we provided a safe, loving, non-judgmental place for women who are distressed by an
unplanned pregnancy. With your support, our best effort comes from our dedicated volunteers who give
unselfishly of their time and talent to encourage and help women make life-affirming decisions and plans for
themselves and their children.
Thank you for helping us help those in need!
Sincerely,
Donna Byrnes

UNCLE AL’S THRIFT SHOP
Are you getting bored with your summer wardrobe? Need something different for a special occasion? Like to find
bargains? Uncle Al’s is the place to go! Due to an abundance of donations that continue to come in, look for
frequent sales throughout the season. A super sale on select summer clothing begins Monday, July 16. A great
selection of women’s men’s and children’s clothing awaits you!
While you’re in the shop, take the time to check out our other departments. The jewelry cases are full of
interesting and reasonably priced items. Housewares, linens, home décor, sports equipment, and some one-of-a-
kind items are some examples of what is offered at Uncle Al’s. The shop is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and
Saturday and is located at 3275 Franklin Ave. Donations can be dropped off during shop hours.
All proceeds benefit St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church.
Perpetual Novena in Honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
In thanksgiving for the graces received during our preparation for Consecration to Our Lady, we will
begin to offer the Perpetual Novena in Honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Traditionally the
Novena is prayed on Monday. We will begin on Monday, August 13, just before the Feast of Our Lady’s
Assumption. The Novena will be prayed after the 7:30 morning Mass for those who are able to remain.
The prayers are not lengthy, the devotion should only take about 15 minutes. Booklets with the Novena
prayers will be provided.
In preparation for this devotion, we will publish in the Bulletin the origin of the Novena, an explanation
of the markings on the Miraculous Medal and a short biography of St. Catherine Laboure.
As we have learned and experienced through our Consecration to Our Lady, she will always watch over,
protect and guide us, individually and as a Parish family, leading us to the Heart of Her Divine Son.
May this Novena be an expression of our love, our gratitude and our unfailing confidence in Her all
powerful intercession.
