January | 2016 Well we started the year off with a blast!! The first cruise-in of the year turned out to be a really awesome day. We had a full house and the day was georgeous. Jim and Shirley were there selling their pretzels and they made a donation to the club for letting them join us. I think they went over really well, I know I saw a lot of people eating pretzels. Katie and Skylar started the year off with a very good 50/50, they sold $342.00. John Gordon won $171.00 and as always we put the rest up towards our donation to the Cumbee Center this coming December. We had quite a few members renew their membership and sold a few t-shirts. So, from now until the end of March I will be working on our Spring Fling Car Show. I will send out letters to Aiken County, Aiken Regional, Sam’s Club and Bridgestone. If you know of any company that would be willing to donate, please ask them. This is the hard part of having the show, getting sponsors and silent auction items. We also need to get door prizes to give away. PetSmart has donated stuffed animals to our club again and Paul (our MC) will be giving them out to the children. If you can help out at the show please let me know and I will let you know where we need help. We have the Spring Fling posters ready, so if you need one to approach a business with just get with me or Manny. This year’s Spring Fling is Route 66. Flyers are done along with registration forms and sponsor sheets. You can pick them up at the next two cruise-ins at Home Depot or come by my office before 9:30 am (231 Marlboro Street SE). Our food tent army is back again this year, a big thanks to all of them we couldn’t do it without you. We are going to do the swap meet again this year. It will be in a better place this year, where they can be seen and easy to get to. Vickie is working on the new shirts, they voted for tie dye in the meeting but our logo would not work with it so we are going with a solid color. We are also having hats made and hopefully will have them at our next cruise-in. In March we will have 2 Friday meetings for the Spring Fling at the Pit, dates to follow later. So as always members, Spring Fling, Spring Fling, Spring Fling is all we are thinking about right now. If you send in your registration please print out the whole sheet and send it in, do not cut the bottom off and don’t forget to sign it.. Keep the wind in your face and the sun on your back!

Upcoming Events:February 6: Aiken Horsepower monthly cruise-in at Home Depot, 2:00-4:00 pmFebruary 7: Aiken Horsepower monthly cruise-in rain date at Mitchell Shopping Center, 2:00-4:00 pmFebruary 8: Monthly meeting, Shane’s Rib Shack, 2645 Whiskey Road, #101, 6:00-8:00 pm

Pontiac owned the muscle scene in the early 1960s. In fact, the 1964 Pontiac GTO is widely regarded as the very first of the breed. But by 1968, that car had plenty of competition. The thought within Pontiac was to make a cheaper version of the GTO with a smaller 350-cubic-inch engine called the ET (for “elapsed time”) a drag-racing term.

Pontiac boss John DeLorean didn’t like that idea. To him, no GTO could have an engine that small. Instead, the team built a car one step up from the regular GTO. DeLorean himself named the car after a popular skit on the TV show Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In. The Judge featured the 360-hp Ram Air III engine standard, but buyers could also opt for the more hardcore 370-hp Ram Air IV. The rarest of all were the GTO Judge Ram Air IV convertibles—only five were built in 1969.

Little-Known Fact: The original TV commercial for the Judge featured the rock band Paul Revere and the Raiders singing about the GTO out on a dry lakebed. According to the book Pontiac Pizazz, by Jim Wangers and Art Fitzpatrick, the lead singer, Mark Lindsay, was a car guy and loved the Judge, so he wrote a song about it. Wangers claims this commercial is considered one of the earliest rock-music videos.

Woodforest Bank in Walmart and they are going to donate items to our goody bags. I have received a Summit car show kit and Haggerty has donated bags and some goody

bag items. HotRodHotline is sending me something, just not sure what. Rock Auto is also helping again this year, thanks Tavares for contacting them. If you do get a donation from

somewhere please let me know so I don’t approach them also. Keep on rollin’!!
