Capstone Portfolio for Instructional TechnologyTechnology in Religious Education and more!

Andrea Slaven

College of Saint Rose – TED 592

and the Internet have made explosive impacts on learning in the classroom, I became interested in using technology for religious education. I entered into the Educational Technologist Specialist program at St. Rose while the College was awaiting accreditation approval for the Instructional Technologist degree program. Several projects that were completed early on in my course developed for classroom use while enrolled in the Ed Tech. program. The knowledge, however, can easily be applied to projects for the Religious Educator.

This presentation is includes a sidebar that links directly to each Course Title Page. Subpages are included in each course section with project descriptions and standards included.

Although I hold a BS and Masters in Education and have taught in the classroom for several years, my passion and career has moved towards Religious Education over the past 25 years. As technology

Using the checklist form, students are able to complete a guided lesson packet in Word. A form developed with dropdown answers can be used by the student to click answer choice after a lesson on internet safety.

By creating an excel form as a grading tool, a mail merge is enabled to create personalized student certificates of completion.

Microsoft Word is very versatile as an educational tool and as an editing tool. In the lesson unit developed titled, “Digital Storytelling with FaceBook,” students create conversations on a Word doc template formatted to look like a Facebook Page created using tables and developer form.

Students can also use PowerPoint templates to create projects for a summative assessment. These can created individually or collaboratively with groups of students.

The project highlighted in this portfolio guides students through an interactive resource which helps students create a final project for summative assessment.

Microsoft Powerpoint is more than just a presentation tool. As an educational tool, Powerpoint can be used for guided instructions, formative assessments and review units because of its ability to be interactive. The use of transitions, hyperlink and animations can be highly motivating and engaging.

Microsoft Excel is more than just a presentation tool. In this lesson, Excel is used to organize information students collect into an interactive activity to manipulate data. The use of functions and tables are used by students to visualize data. Each page of the Excel file leads the students to specific websites to explore and find answers to research questions while also teaching students the various ways to use Excel functions.

TrackStar (trackstar.4teachers.org) is an online tool teachers can use to create self-directed student lessons by integrating curated and organized Websites and questions to research then formats the lesson into a Word doc. This can be used as a formative assessment activity prior to completing a project or presentation. Students are able to systematically gather key information.

The lesson plan included here explains the task, objectives, standards used and assessment based on rubric standards.

A WebQuest guides students through completing a task or set of tasks while engaging critical thinking skills including synthesis, analyzing, creativity and judgment.

In this WebQuest, students bring to life the game of Chess by understanding the chosen pieces and the real life roles of those pieces during the Middle Ages. Students then analyze the key roles of society today, creating a modern day game of Chess.

The WebQuest included the use of a rubric for summative assessment based on the objectives. The curating and organizing of Websites were completed by using bookmarking tools and storyboarding skills. Making use of various learning objects such as virtual tours, MuseumBox and Google Forms were also incorporated.

Educational Research is necessary to understand how learning theory is reviewed, tested and analyzed for evaluating the quality of various studies. The course itself demonstrated how formative assessment can be used as a student works towards the final summative product.

My final project included a research proposal for the study of digital storytelling in faith formation/religious education to form personal faith identity.

By completing this research proposal, I gained an understanding of the process involved to prepare and present a research study. Beginning with preparing a clear purpose for the study, methods and procedures, preparing an IRB review, collecting data, analyzing data and to the completion of the final results.

The following artifact is the completion of a research proposal, which includes an Introduction, Statement of Purpose, Literature Review, Methods, Participants, Roles, Benefits and Limitations and References.

Completing a Program Evaluation moves within a process of identifying stakeholders, objectives, resources, developimentof an evaluation plan, collecting data, analyzing data and disseminating formative and summative findings.

This project is created from survey results of a real program that takes place at the College of St. Rose. From the information given, the first part provides an analysis and dissemination of the given data. The second part describes the results in context of the program goals and formulates a plan of action.
