VERTICAL GALLERIESMuseum of Ar t & CultureHavana, Cuba

This project consists of a series of galleries, gardens, restaurants, and viewing terraces arranged vertically to frame views that overlook Havana Bay and the historic urban fabric of Cuba’s capital city. The site is a monumental ruin of an old thermoelectric factory and the surrounding industrial remnants that have been converted into a system of paths and sculpture gardens.

This proposal rethinks spaces rendered uninhabitable by infrastructure, development, and difficult natural topography. The site is adjacent to the infamous High Bridge Towers in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, highly criticized because of the noise and pollution problems linked with the high volume traffic of the Trans-Manhattan Expressway that runs underneath. The proposal creates a new urban landscape that provides housing, public program, and new park space as it connects High Bridge Park back to the urban grid of New York City.

New Urban Courtyard Types

Inhabiting the spaces claimed by infrastructure creates unique situations redefined as new forms of urban courtyards. These new spaces frame the highway infrastructure below as well as the canopy of the lush High Bridge Park, providing urban inhabitants new and magnificent views of the downtown Manhattan skyline from their balconies.

This boutique hotel located in the South Bund district of Shanghai reuses the structure of a former Japanese Army HQ.

THE HEEREN SHOPSOrchard Road, S ingaporeArchitects : DP Architects

This project consists of a new street facade for the Heeren Shops along Singapore’s most famous shopping area, Orchard Road. The design consists of an undulating glass curtain wall that wraps around three characteristic slanted public kiosks, in addition to an egg-shaped glass corner atrium. The majority of the design had been completed upon my arrival at DPA, so I served to facilitate the production of construction and working drawings in addition to other various aspects of the project.

OBJECT TRANSFORMATION

As an introduction to digital working methods at the University of Pennsylvania, this 1st semester project asked for the transformation and documentation of an ordinary object. This served as a basic exercise in 2-d drafting, 3-d modelling and rendering, parametric modelling using Grasshopper, and documentation of the entire process through animation.

DRAWINGSMy introduction to the field of architecture began with a drafting class at the University of Michigan. I realized from this study that drawings can communicate much more than the appearance of an object. I continue to approach my architectural career with the firm belief in the importance of sketching and drawing in the design process.
