New Business CourseThis course is a one day intensive for anyone looking at the possibility of starting a ‘Paint it Yourself Pottery’ business. Whether you are considering a mobile operation, a shop location or just want to add party plans & adult workshops to your existing business you will find this course useful. There is no hard sell but there is plenty of advice. The day ends with a practical painting session and basic guidance on glazing, kiln loading and kiln management. A £50 voucher is issued to delegates to redeem against the cost of a Nabertherm kiln. Lunch is included.

One day: 10 am - 5 pm

Amazing GlazingThis course is free to anyone who has bought a Nabertherm kiln through Country Love Crafts or costs £40 to anyone who has not purchased a kiln. The course covers various glazing techniques (brushing, dipping, roll/spill glazing etc), the qualities and differences of glazes and a troubleshooting session. A glazing manual and practical session are also included.Lunch is not included but refreshments are provided.

POTTERY TRAiNiNG

Silver Clay KeepsakesLearn how to make silver fingerprint keepsakes and leaf print jewellery using Silver Clay products. Techniques include producing fingerprint moulds, working with Silver Clay products, finishing & polishing, antiquing, shaping, letter printing, scribing, attaching findings and producing leaf prints. Delegates make a minimum of 4 items including a leaf pendant, fingerprint cufflinks and a fingerprint pendant. Further items can be made with any excess Silver Clay. Lunch is included.

One Day: 10am - 4pm

intensive Pottery Painting A four day intensive course designed to equip delegates with an in-depth understanding of a variety of different pottery painting techniques, glazing, kiln management and kiln firing. Day one will be dedicated to teaching the practicalities of glazing and firing. All the techniques taught in both the ‘Basic’ and ‘Specialist Pottery Painting’ courses will be covered over the next three days. Delegates should leave this course with the knowledge to teach and advise their customers and to be able to use pottery painting as a means to generate income. Lunch is included.

Basic Pottery PaintingA great introduction to many of the basic techniques you will need to start painting your own pottery with confidence. This course is ideal for new business owners needing to build up a basic level of competence, hobbyists wanting to try a range of new techniques or anyone who has little or no experience of ceramic painting. Lunch is included.

Two days: 10 am - 4 pm

Specialist Pottery PaintingThis course is perfect for anyone wanting to expand their range of pottery painting skills.Techniques covered include tube lining, antiquing, band blending, lustres, sumi painting and EZ shading. Lunch is included.Delegates will decorate several items to take home.

Moroccan DecorationA one-day course teaching a Moroccan design on ceramics. Delegates will paint a large bowl with decorative silver, white and black designs using simple brush strokes and banding techniques. Ideal for basic to intermediate ceramic decorators. Lunch is included. Delegates will paint purple plate on right.

One Day: 10am - 4pm

Aboriginal DecorationOur amazing aboriginal design course will teach you how to create beautiful and original pieces using the dot painting technique, satin glaze and gold leaf effect.Lunch is included.

Fun with ClayAn introduction to hand-building with clay. Delegates will be taught the differences with clay bodies, drying, decorating and firing clay. They will also learn how to make clay designs and clay models (using carving, moulding and imprinting process es). Delegates will make tiles, 3D plaques and wall hangings. Don’t forget, air-drying clay can be used if you don’t have a kiln. Lunch is included.

One Day: 10am until 4pm

Complete Wedding CourseDelegates will learn both traditional and modern methods of creating signature plates. They will design character wedding plates, apply lustres, use and create their own ceramic decals and make Photoshop templates. Finally, delegates will be given advice on marketing wedding services. Lunch is included.

Plaster and Clay PrintsPlaster Out-Prints 10am until 1pm. Learn how to make 3D impressions in plaster. Delegates will be taught how to make a mould, correctly mix plaster and how to decorate and display this wonderful keepsake. We try to organise for a baby to attend the session for a life-like experience. Sell the finished goods for approximately £30 per print or £60 per double print.


Clay imprints2pm until 5pm. Learn how to prepare clay, effectively dry, bisque fire, decorate and glaze fire these treasured impressions. We try to organise for a baby to attend the session for a life-like experience. Sell the finished goods for approximately £30 per print or £60 per double print.

Enamelling On this half day course delegates will learn the basics of enamelling, using a variety of different techniques and will take away their hand-made samples. Lunch is not included but refreshments will be provided.


Craft Painting with DecoArtThis seminar will teach delegates various decorating techniques using DecoArt paints, speciality products and mediums. There are some great products for any crafter, artist or home decor project. This event is sponsored by DecoArt so places are FREE.


Stamping - A New DimensionA one day course to show how stamping techniques can be applied to various surfaces. Learn how create stunning backgrounds with inks and acrylics, image transfer processes and new dimensional products.


Open DayOur Sale & Unveil Open Days have been well attended and we have received positive feedback. New products are showcased and there will be the usual opportunities for painting, lot boxes, free samples &, of course, invaluable networking.

We find the Open Days useful for putting names to faces and getting to know you better. We hope that you find the events useful too.

Bespoke training is ideal for individual training requirements e.g. training on specific dates and/or a mixture of selected techniques. Where there are more than 2 delegates from one company or area, Bespoke training is often cheaper too.

Tell us your training needs and we will design a suitable training programme for you. These courses can be held on location or in our training room. Additionally, our Tutor can visit your studio and run a seminar of your choice...marketed well, these seminars will create income and inspire your customers!

Training and Development (2)

DELEGATE REQUIREMENTS:• Brushes, tools, bisque, colour, glaze

and decorating accessories will be provided for training held at Country Love Crafts. Products required for Bespoke training will need to be ordered in advance.

• Note that we do not offer a firing service for course delegates but on two day courses work will be fired for collection on day two.

PAYMENT:

• Full payment (plus VAT) is required to guarantee spaces on all seminars.

CANCELLATION POLICY:• Payment is non-refundable but

places can be switched to an alternative course if more than 5 working days notice is given in advance of course.

• Please advise immediately if you are unable to attend so that your place can be offered to another delegate.

ORDERS:

• Please note, office and warehouse staff are unavailable during weekends so additional orders cannot be processed during weekend courses.

• Unless otherwise stated, all courses are run by Andy Skinner, Creative Consultant, with the exception of the ‘New Business Course’ which is run by Jenny Hawkins.

• Course notes are available for most seminars.

• Please ensure that all mobile phones are switched off during class.

• Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to attend training.

TRAINING GRANTS:

A number of delegates receive training grants from their Local Council, Business Link or Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) - these have ranged in value from £500 to £1500. If you are lucky enough to be in a region that offers these grants, please speak to us about quotations and/or bespoke training.T

TRAINING FACILITIES:

• Located in Oxfordshire close to a mainline train station (Didcot Parkway), and easily accessed from the M4 and M40.

BESPOKE TRAINING:

If you have a specific individual requirement, or are unable to make any of the dates we have scheduled, please ask about Bespoke training. We can arrange to hold any of our courses for you and your colleagues either here in Abingdon or at your Studio. Tell us your training needs and we will design a suitable training programme for you. On the same basis, we will visit your studio and run any seminar of your choice. Marketed well, these seminars will create income and inspire your customers!!

The daily ‘Tutor Rate’ (i.e. from 10am until 5pm) is £150 for the first delegate and £45 per delegate thereafter. Travel expenses are charged at 40p per mile and travelling time is charged at £17.50 per hour (long distance travel only). Subsistence and accommodation will be charged separately according to requirements. Bespoke courses that are held at our Abingdon office will not incur additional travel, subsistence or accommodation costs.
