Andy Walton’s Weekly World Watch

“If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet

to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away

because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.”

Ezekiel 33:6

What is this world watch all about?I decided each week to look at key events that had happened in that week and

look at them with the Bible in hand.I hope to build up a picture of Gods hand working in the affairs of this world

bringing about that day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle which will be brought to end when the Lord Jesus Christ physically returns from heaven to set up Gods kingdom.

The key areas which will crop up time and again will be1. Israel – Middle East the growing conflict2. Europe – the developing union / political and religious3. Russia – continued turning back to anti west ways4. The development of King of South – US & UK5. Declining moral standards and increasing violence.

Please email me with any thoughts, questions or anything I may have missed! On last page there is a red button – if you click it an email will open up pre addressed to me so you can send an email comments etc

Weekly DevelopmentsThese are just a few of the events that have caught my eye in the

previous week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Bible viewpoint.

HeadlinesThese are always headlines printed in the newspaper – the date is always

given and which paper. Normally the Daily Telegraph. (DT)

EventThis is usually the newspapers take on the events that have happened. It

will always be a direct quote from the newspaper.

CommentThis is my take on why it is interesting from a Bible point of view. The

idea of this weekly world watch is to give a quick Biblical perspective without going into detail. If more detail is needed please email me.

Bible QuoteThis is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has

occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context.

Pharaoh, Frogs & Freedom – new CDARMAGEDDON is mentioned ONCE by name

in the whole of the Bible. Most people in the world have heard of

Armageddon…. HOWEVER…..How many people know and understand the

verses in the Bible that come just before the Armageddon verse?

Revelation 16 talks of unclean spirits like frogs going out to world leaders and gathering them to the great battle of Armageddon.

So what are these unclean froglike spirits? How and why do these froglike spirits gather

the kings of the earth to battle?Jesus warns us that we should WATCH these

things so we are not caught unawares or sleeping.

It is surely VITAL then that we do understand these verses. It will help keep us awake.

Bible Quote Revelation 16 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs…[they] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 16 And he gathered them into a place called Armageddon.

This new professionally produced CD, with audio from a talk I gave tries to show logically and clearly what these verses mean. If you would like to order a CD(s) please email me at [email protected] with your name, address, country & quantity. Cost of CD and postage = £2 UK or $5.50 US or $7:40 Australia. PAYPAL account is [email protected]. If cost is an issue I will still gladly post out.

August 22nd - significant dateHeadline August 22nd - significant dateHeadline Wall Street Journal August 8EventIn Islam, as in Judaism and Christianity, there are certain beliefs concerning the cosmic

struggle at the end of time -- Gog and Magog, anti-Christ, Armageddon, and for Shiite Muslims, the long awaited return of the Hidden Imam, ending in the final victory of the forces of good over evil, however these may be defined. Mr. Ahmadinejad and his followers clearly believe that this time is now, and that the terminal struggle has already begun and is indeed well advanced. It may even have a date, indicated by several references by the Iranian president to giving his final answer to the U.S. about nuclear development by Aug. 22. This was at first reported as "by the end of August," but Mr. Ahmadinejad's statement was more precise.

What is the significance of Aug. 22? This year, Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to "the farthest mosque," usually identified with Jerusalem, and then to heaven and back. This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world. It is far from certain that Mr. Ahmadinejad plans any such cataclysmic events precisely for Aug. 22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in mind.

CommentIran wants to destroy Israel. We watch and wait for his response about his nuclear

programme. The specific date he gave to respond is a significant one for him. Bible Quote Zechariah 12 2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling

Airline terror plot in UKHeadline Airline plot: Was this the next 9/11Headline Associated Press August 10EventIts scope was ruthlessly ambitious, causing destruction officials say would have been

"unimaginable." The alleged plot to take down several U.S.-bound planes with liquid explosives appears to be unlike anything the world has seen in years.

Counterterrorism officials said Thursday the London plot appears to bear the fingerprints of al-Qaida, and may have been "the Big One" they have been dreading since Sept. 11, 2001, particularly as the five-year anniversary of the carnage approaches.

More than 20 people have been jailed, terror threat levels have been raised to some of their highest levels, and hundreds of flights have been cancelled worldwide.

"The scope or the magnitude of this attack is much larger than previous attacks," said Rohan Gunaratna, a terrorism expert at Singapore's Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies.

CommentThe age of terror in which we now live began in earnest after the collapse of the

Jerusalem talks in July 2000. The intifada began when Ariel Sharon visited the Temple Mount the September 2000. 9/11 happened a year later. Bali, Madrid, London etc have all happened since. “We live in the age of terror”, a Whitehouse spokesman said. Terror = intense fear. Terrorism = the use of terror.

Jesus said that men would live in a time of fear shortly before he returned.Bible Quote Luke 21 26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after

those things which are coming on the earth

Mideast anger worst in 20 yearsHeadline Mideast anger worst in 20 yearsArticle Associated Press August 11EventU.N. humanitarian chief Jan Egeland said Friday the anger on all sides in

the Middle East is the greatest he has seen in two decades of trying to help the troubled region make peace.

"I've never seen nations as polarized as during this recent visit," said Egeland, who was in Lebanon, Israel and the Gaza Strip at the end of July.

"People were enraged collectively in Lebanon, everybody against the Israeli indiscriminate onslaught," he said in an interview with The Associated Press. "In Israel, they were a united front to support the strong military measures. In the Palestinian areas, I've never seen them as full of hatred collectively as now.”

CommentIt is anger and hatred of God’s people that will bring all nations to battle in Jerusalem.Israel is becoming increasingly isolated. Shunned by almost all nations bar a few. Many do think that if Israel did not exist the world’s problems would disappear. We do not agree with Israel’s actions ie giving up the land – living mainly in unbelief -

but we also know that they will never come to a complete end. See verse below.God will judge Israel by sending nations against them. He will then judge those nations

who fought against Jerusalem. This is precisly what God did in the Old Testament times with the Assyrians and Babylonians etc. You don’t see many Assyrians or Babylonians today! The judgement of God on Israel is to finally restore them to him.

Bible Quote Jeremiah 30 11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save theethough I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full

end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.

UN Lebanon resolutionHeadline UN Lebanon resolution Headline BBC Online August 12EventThe US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, said the deal should "open a path to lasting

peace between Lebanon and Israel". UK Prime Minister Tony Blair welcomed the resolution, but stressed that fighting should

stop immediately following its adoption. French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy called the adoption of the resolution "a

historic turning point". CommentThe tortuous negotiations that have continued for weeks have finally produced a UN

resolution that no one is really happy with. Though there is talk of a “path to peace” being opened and “a historic turning point”, there is every likelihood that the violence will continue. In fact even as I write Israel is pushing further into Lebanon.

Perhaps we see a fulfilment of the verse below. For the nations are saying “peace and safety”. See verse below. In fact the resolution itself mentions “peace and security”. Safety can also be translated security.

The resolution calls for a “full cessation of hostilities”. Israel has said it will comply but if attacked it will retaliate. Hezbollah has said nothing so far. If Iran wants them to continue they will continue.

Iran is nearing a crunch point with its nuclear negotiations so in fact may well want the destruction to continue. We may be near “sudden destruction”. We watch and wait.

Bible Quote 1 Thessalonians 5 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child;

Lebanon crisis could trigger recessionHeadline Lebanon crisis could trigger deep recessionHeadline The Telegraph August 8EventThe price of crude soared to an all-time high of $78.54 a barrel in London after BP closed

its Prudhoe Bay oil field in Alaska due to pipeline corrosion, cutting world supplies by 400,000 barrels a day.

The spike came amid warnings by Standard & Poor's that crude could reach $250 if the Middle East crisis escalates, tipping the global economy into a deep recession.

The rating agency said the chief danger is a move by Iran to close the Straits of Hormuz - source of one fifth of the world's oil needs.

Iran has threatened to block the shipping lanes if attacked by the West over its nuclear programme, or if Israel strikes at Syrian targets to halt the flow of weapons to Hizbollah in Lebanon.

CommentThe economy of the world is in a very precarious state. It is totally dependent on energy.

Energy comes predominantly from oil. When the final conflict occurs in the Middle East the economy of the world will come

crashing down almost over night.Men and women in the world put all their trust in mammon and the love of money. Their

faith and reliance is on things that are rusting and corrupting. They have heaped treasure together for the last days. Let us not do this. Let us lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven that will not come to end when the economies of the world collapses. Where will our pensions, investments, properties, shares be then?

Bible Quote James 5 1 ¶ Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. 3 Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Typhoon slams into ChinaHeadline Super typhoon slams into ChinaHeadlines Reuters August 10EventMore than 20,000 soldiers and paramilitary police have

been mobilised to help clear up after China's most powerful storm in 50 years.

Typhoon Saomai cut a swathe across south-east China, leaving at least 105 people dead and 190 missing.

Saomai has now been downgraded to a tropical storm but more heavy rain and gales were forecast over the weekend.

Official media said the storm destroyed more than 50,000 houses and caused at least $560m (£295m) in damage.

CommentThis week has seen the worst typhoon in China for 50 years, an earthquake in Mexico and

fresh signs that Philippine volcano Mount Mayo is about to erupt.New data out this week has shown that Greenland’s ice sheet is melting 3 times faster

than initially thought. If the icecap were to completely disappear, global sea levels would rise by 21 feet!

As the cartoon in the Daily Telegraph above shows – Global Warming is happening in more ways than one.

As the physical earth heats up causing storm and flood, so the political earth is heating up causing war and terror. The day of the Lord is at hand.

Bible Quote 2 Peter 3 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
