PITCHBOOKS PROMOTIONThe Varsity Dierence
The Varsity Bike Dock was considered a drastic improvement on the average inverted U style bike rack already, but the concept behind this promotional piece was to outline what made it a unique innovation. I leveraged the technical skill of the design engineer for a 3D rendering as well and pushed the additional design for a finished product that was used widely in both print and web promotion.
Design and Content Writing - Andy KowalczykInsite Project Concept - Christopher Luyet
SkateDockThis piece was to highlight a major selling point of the SkateDock, that of saving space and increasing storage density for skateboards. I chose to illustrate this by comparing the same spacial footprint of other forms of transportation to position the skatedock as a piece of instructure that provides a benefit for planners, students and faculty by saving space and providing an organized place to put boards.

The cause of diminishing wetlands in both South Florida and South Louisiana has been a topic that I have had an interest in for some time and I thought an infographic detailing some of the similari-ties between the ecosystems of both areas would be an great undertaking from a storyteling aspect.

PITCHBOOKSINSITE
The underlying concept of the InSite initiative outlined by Christopher Luyet was a strategy to connect university campus facility and transportation managers with the existing infrastructure at their sites. We concieved the name from the idea that the initiative would bring further insight to transportation insfrastructure needs at a given site, along with how well the existing infrastructure works. When Chris found that there was virtually nothing like it in the marketplace for commercial site furnishings I thought of the tagline “Innovative Site Solutions” to tie in with the alternate spelling in the brand name we established.

Making The Case - The Campus StandardThe idea behind “The Campus Standard” was a long running concept fostered by Chris Luyet. Through his years of experience in bike infrastructure and commercial bicycle racks he found that college campuses were oen the proving ground for bicycle racks and bike infrastructure. Seeing what worked and didn’t and how our products fit into the equation, he and I concieved this pitchbook that is targeted to that market. Highlighting our authority in the field of site furnishings at The Park Catalog, Chris being a co-founder of a bicycle rack company, along with the head of a very experienced sales sta that oers a superior and versatile line of products that are priced competitively.

CONTENT | STRATEGYEarth Month Campaign
As my first campaign with The Park Catalog we decided to launch a month long campaign to observe Earth Day. The natural choice was the most eco-conscious product oered, namely recycled plastic benches. This to me also seemed like a wonderful opportunity for more than just a product push, but also an opportunity to brand the business as eco-friendly by partnering with a regionally local nonprofit focusing on the environment. Given that the Everglades watershed is such an important part of the South Florida region, the Everglades Foundation seemed a natural choice. Through collaboration with the sales department and the fundraising department of The Everglades Foundation I was able to reach an agreement that contributed a portion of all sales of recycled plastic benches to them.

TEC42As an adjunct to The Earth Month Campaign sales decided it would be beneficial to brand our recycled plastic lumber. It was established between Chris Luyet, Nichole Howell and I that a number would be a part of the name and ‘42’ was decided upon. This was not just because it was Jackie Robinson’s number, or because that number holds a significant place in Hitchiker’s Guide to The Galaxy. 4.2 is the listing for recycled materials in LEED accreditation. The TEC was my contribution, breaking down as an acronym for Tough Eco Core.

Proceeds from sale of recycled plastic benches and other products donated byThe Park and Facilities Catalog to The Everglades Foundation for Earth Day
By Andy Kowalczyk
This year marks the 46th Earth Day since its inception on April 22, 1970.Each year a theme is chosen to celebrate the beauty, vitality and significance of our outdoors, and this year that theme is “Trees for the Earth.”To celebrate Earth Day 2016, The Park and Facilities Catalog is donating a portion of the proceeds from every sale of a bench, picnic table or trash receptacle created with their recycled plastic materials to the Everglades Foundation.
34
“Over the next five years, as Earth Day moves closer to its 50th anniversary, we’re calling on you to help us achieve one of our most ambitious goals yet —we’re planting 7.8 billion trees and we’re starting now.”-Earth Day Network
Everglades National Park is a World Heritage Site and an essential part of the ecosystem andeconomy ofFlorida. Decades of drainage and overdevelopment have shrunk America’s Everglades down to half its original size impacting the ecosystem from Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay, harming the state’s tourism industry and threatening the quality of life for millions of Floridians and millions more tourists who rely on a healthy Everglades for their water supply.
The Everglades Foundation is dedicated to protecting and restoring America’s Everglades. Through scientifically sound, achievable solutions, the Foundation seeks to reverse the damage inflicted on this unique ecosystem and provide policymakers and the public with an honest and credible resource on complex restoration issues. Additionally, this summer the Everglades Foundation will launch the $10 million George Barley Prize, the largest clean water prize competition to date, with the goal of solving the phosphorus pollution problem plaguing the Everglades and other freshwater lakes and rivers across the country and the world.
Not only is The Park Catalog committed to decreasing the waste that ends up in landfills, it is also committed to helping preserve precious open spaces in its own backyard such as Everglades National Park. It’s estimated that over 100 million tons of plastic is consumed worldwide and that recycled plastic has actually increased in demand the past few years. ThePark Catalog’srecycled material products are made with 100 percent recycled HDPE post-consumer content plastic, which ensures there is less plastic trash in landfills and more unspoiled land and clean water for all of us.
35
It may be called Earth Day , but the first step to preserving the planet begins in the places where we live The purchase of products made with recycled plastic completes the loop from gathering, to manufacturing, to purchase and puts that resource back in circulationrather than in a landfill or in our public spaces.
The Park Catalog is located mere hours from the Everglades National Park andchose todedicate a portion of the proceeds from sales of their recycled plastic products to the Everglades Foundation to support their commitment to preserving such a vital ecosystem.

Facts About Recycling Plastic: Economic Growth:
In the US in 2000, the recycling and reuse industry sustained approximately 56,000 programs that employed over 1.1M people, generated an annual payroll of nearly $37B, and grossed over $236B in revenues.
Tourism: By eliminating plastic pollution in just the ocean environment within the Pacific Rim, we could reduce over 1.28B in damages or losses to fishing, tourism, and shipping operations.
Health Impacts: Plastic litter impacts Water quality and human health, while placing stress on the budgets and infrastructures of municipal authorities
Economic Impact: The total cost of waste Is much bigger than people think, as it includes the mining and processing of raw materials, collection, transportation, re-processing, consulting, permitting, and the ultimate disposal of waste.
Efficiency: Public authorities can benefit from reduced waste management costs, optimized land use, decreased stress on infrastructure and value generation with improved allocation of material resources.
Economic Benefits: The economy benefits from jobs in local value adding processes of collection, processing, and manufacturing. In general, recycling creates ten times as many
Threat to Our Oceans: Used plastic Dumped into the sea kills and destroys sea life at an estimated 1 million sea creatures a year, which impacts the economy of fishing communities
Where and How? Many people don’t recycle Simply because they don’t know where a facility is, or they are not educated about what is, or is not recyclable. To find out what is recyclable, how to recycle at home, and where your nearest recycling center is visit recyclenow.com
