Established in 2002, Indians inKorea (IIK) is a non-profitorganization with over 6500members. The organizationmainly includes Indians living inKorea and Koreans who areinterested in India or Indiancommunity. This groupprimarily composed ofengineering professionals,business persons, researchfellows, students andhousewives. IIK upholds India’sumbrella of Unity in Diversityand intends to make Indiansfeel at home and interact freelyin Korea. Regardless of religion,region, culture and language,doors of IIK are open for everyIndian. With the help of ourlively discussion in group,meetings, get together parties,socio-cultural activities and thebest helping hands by each ofthe members in the group, IIKwishes to provide everyindividual an opencommunication platform toshare experiences, socialknowledge and simultaneouslya feeling of togetherness.

Dear Indians In Korea,

Wish you all a very Happy,Successful and Healthy2017.As every year, we at IIKhave closed 2016 with loadsof memories and lessons. Itgives me immense pleasureto present the work done in2016 and mission for 2017.

2016 started with closing offund raising activity forChennai flood victims. IIK wasoverwhelmed with generoussupport from its every familymember. Raised fund wasdiversified in multiple locationsand also multiple ways to makeit useful. It took a while tocome out of deep sadness forthose who got affected inChennai due to heavy rainfall.IIK geared up for celebration ofopening flagship annual eventHoli. Holi celebration atHangang Park, Seoul has beengetting more and moreresponse every year. 2016marked another benchmark interms of around 300 peoplecoming together to enjoy thefestival of color. There wassome rough ending due topremise being damaged(colored walls of toilet) but itgot resolved due to cleanrecord with Hangang Parkauthority and assurance tokeep it clean in future events.

Saying bye to winter andentering into Summer bought anew event to the portfolio of IIKin form of 1st collaborativeevent with Seoul MetropolitanGovernment.IIK together with KOINAorganized presentation titled "ITTrend in India". This event wasorganized specifically forHonorable Mayor of Seoul Mr.Park Won-Soon. Event wasgraced by HonorableAmbassador of India to Republicof Korea Mr. Vikram KDoraiswami.Summer always brings moreoutdoor events and henceIIKians started practicing hardfor Cricket tournaments. IIKPremier Cup is 1st tennis ballknockout league in Republic ofKorea. Year on Year this eventhas been getting more demandin terms of increase in numberof teams. It is also becoming achallenge to find the venue tomake sure we allow allregistered teams play and enjoythe passionate game of India.

It is almost end of the year andmost busy time in terms offestivals. One of the biggestfestival of India and mostawaited Indian event in Republicof Korea bringing more than100 volunteers together, it isnone other than ourDiwali/Deepavali (Festival ofLight).IIK made another history bycollaborating with one of thebiggest event managementcompany OutdoorKorea. It was1st time in the history of IIK tobring in lucky draw prizes worth5 Million WON.IIKians enjoyed dance moves ofcommunity members andprofessionals. 2016 Diwali eventwas another leap by giving afeel of real Carnival inBollywood Style.And now, I take this opportunitybehalf of Indians In Korea (IIK)to thank each of you who joinedhands to let Indian Diaspora feellike at home. We look forwardto keep working with you infuture.

Mission for 2017 is to - Establish healthy relationship with government institutions in Republic of

Korea. Collaborate closely with Indian Embassy. Collaborate closely with young and dynamic Indians in Korea to come up

with more innovative / supportive system for Indian Diaspora.

In keeping with the age-old tradition of India of Kings holding openmeetings with subjects, famously at the Diwan-i-aam (Hall ofaudience), the IIK carried forward that hallowed tradition in Korea.Seoul Global centre and Indian embassy at Korea organized a SeoulTown Meeting for Indian residents and IT professionals

The meeting was chaired by the Mayor of Seoul Mr. Park Won-Soonon behalf of the Government of Korean and H.E. Mr. VikramDoraiswami. IIK president and other directors attend the meeting .IIK director Mr. Navneet Basutkar and Mr. Kuldeep Kasana werepresent as guest speakers. The presentation was based on 'IT TRENDSIN INDIA'.

IIK Participates in“Seoul town meeting with Indianresidents and IT professionals”

The meeting was attended by distinguished members of the Indiancommunity who voiced various concerns on living and working inKorea.This was the first-ever event of its kind organized by the IIK. A humblebeginning of bringing government and people together, thathopefully would go a long way.

Holi Hungama

For the first holi in SouthKorea on 11th march 2012,Indians boarded a bus tocelebrate the most colorfulfestival of India 'Bura namano Holi hai'. Holi iscelebrated to welcomespring. Festivals for Indians isa celebration of life and nobarriers come between, eventhe lack of colors. 'But whereare the colors,' asked Mr. Das.The answer was in the formof grinding dry red roses ,green leaves, turmeric andkumkum powder. Thesenatural ingredients weremixed with talcum powder.Yay! The first Holi at a largescale was played in publicwith natural colors

A potluck was organized tosupport the event. Indiansplayed Holi with gloves andjackets and smiles on theirfaces and a million emotions.Some Indians played Holi forthe first time in Seoul after 20yrs.. IIK kept the promise ofmaking Indians feel at homeaway from home, andcontinues to do so. EveryIndians awaits eagerly thesplash of colors in a gatheringof around 200 Indians. Holi byIIK is another major festivalcelebrated and acknowledgedin Korea, and once reported inthe MEA annual magazine

'Roshni ki chaadar odheDeepavali aayi re'. Seoul meinbhi saal 2002 mein IIK le karaaya Deepavali for first time.Thus eradicating darkness fromthe lives and hearts of Indianswho celebrated communityDiwali in a foreign land on amass scale for the first time. Asmall diya was lit dispelling thedarkness. Deep jale asie lagejaise ghar ho hamara. This diyaof Deepavali has been kept litsince then. It continues tospread light by spreading itsradiance among othernationalities in Korea.

Diwali Carnival Through the years IIK hasalways brought somethingnew to the Diwalicelebration, making it themost awaited mega-eventof the year organized byIndians in Korea. It is anevent that brings togetherpeople not only India butother countries too.Respecting the hostcountry, Korean talent hasbeen acknowledged too inthe form of traditionaldances of Korea.

Premier CupIIK premier cup is one of themain attractions for Indiansliving in Korea. It encouragespeople to get together andenjoy the game of cricket thatis loved and appreciated by all.IIK has already successfullyconducted this annual event 4times in a row. Moreover withthe constant improvement inthe tournament facilities, thisyear marked the participationof 14 teams throughout Korea.Every match was played with10 overs for an inning and theaudience came in largenumbers with their families toenjoy not only cricket but alsothe delicious food served byMs. Chanchal Sharma & Mr.Naveen Sharma. One of thebiggest achievements for thistournament was to betelecasted live throughYouTube with the help of Mr.Amit Gupta.
