In recognition of her pioneering and outstanding leadership grounded in principles of equality and human rights, making her one of the most influential leaders of the free world; for her trailblazing role in tearing down walls and breaking glass ceilings in her pursuit of a just and fair social reality based on the value of human dignity and the belief that all humans were created equal, the very same values held dear by the University of Haifa; for her service to the German people for over two decades as a Member of Parliament, a Member of Government and Chancellor; for her staunch stand against racism and antisemitism and her contributions in forming ties between Jews and non-Jews in Germany and in Europe; for her boundless efforts in strengthening scientific cooperation between Germany and the State of Israel, as manifested in the strong scientific ties between the University of Haifa and many German research entities; and in appreciation of her warm friendship and strengthened relations between Germany and the State of Israel.
