How Can You Not Affordto Target this Audience? Angler magazine is the bible of our association and, while we do use direct mail for membership drives and renewals, most of the yearly tournament news comes to the fi sherman in the pages of Angler. Hard-hitting editorials, a calendar of events, fi shing tips, and the most comprehensive tournament results are included in each issue. Angler is circulated to every member 11 times a year, (no issue in December) plus tournament distribution. Angler is printed on 40 pound newsprint with an 80 pound gloss four color cover. Newsprint is used because of tight deadlines and printing schedules.Angler magazine is the offi cial publication of the Southern Kingfi sh Association.

In 1991 I founded the Southern Kingfi sh Association. Over the next decade I learned a lot about the behavioral habits of saltwater fi shermen. First and foremost, they are extremely loyal to the companies that support their passion and second, they’ll spend whatever is necessary to give them a competitive edge over his or her fellow fi shermen. In 2004, a Marketing Director from a major boat builder called to inform me that they would have two new SKA boats ready for market by winter. Th ey’re not the fi rst to build “SKA Boats.” Th e fact is we’ve changed the face of saltwater fi shing. And now manufacturers are still scrambling to build new products. Competitive fi shing is big business. Th e products our members use and buy have a tremendous infl uence on other saltwater fi shermen’s buying habits.More than 30,000 hard core, infl uential, and affl uent king mackerel fi shermen fi shed our events

last year. Th at’s a lot of buying power especially when you consider that they fi sh over 41 days a year. Th at’s over 20 weekends a year. We’ve professionalized them and even made great role models from some of them. You know exactly what I’m referring to because you’ve seen them in many manufacturers ads, touting their product. So what are you doing to reach our market? Conventional fi shing or boating magazines? You’d be amazed at how many of our members don’t subscribe. One fi shing publication tried to emulate our successes and fell fl at on their face. Our fi shermen read Angler magazine each month from cover to cover. Why? Because it’s about them; real fi shermen. It’s chock full of tournament coverage and ‘how to’ articles exposing the latest fi shing techniques. Remember too, that fi shermen run boats; they need motors, electronics, trucks, petroleum products, and boat accessories to make their fi shing more comfortable and profi table. We are editorial experts in this fi eld also.Take it from one marketer to another, you need Angler magazine in your 2013 budget. Yes it’s niche marketing, but it is one of the most important niches you will ever discover. Don’t take my word for it, we can prove it virtually any weekend of the year. Get out of your chair, lock your offi ce door, and come see for yourself. Our tournaments refl ect the fi sherman’s passions and what he spends in pursuit of his desire to excel. No marketing studies, no trend reports, it’s all there on the docks for you to see.But I suspect you already know this. Our industry isn’t really that big, people talk. We’ve been the object of many a marketing meeting, maybe even one of yours. So here’s my deal. Pick up the phone and call me. Let’s discuss you’re marketing plans for the coming season. I know I, or one of our competent marketing experts, can show you how Angler magazine will ring your registers. I’ll bet my reputation on it!
