ou have recently returned from performing at the Tam-worth Country Music festival, what was that like?

Tamworth was an absolutely beguiling experience. I played

15 shows at various venues including: the Oasis Hotel, the Atrium Shopping Centre, Toyota Fanzone, DAG Sheep Station,The Pub and the HQ Stage, which was a lot of fun.

2012 Star Maker winner Bob Corbett asked me to do a guest spot on his show and also two time Golden Guitar winner Pete Denahy on his Com-edy Bluegrass show; it was brilliant to catch up with those guys and enjoy their amazing work.

Even though the festival was hot and dusty and my Suzi Quatro leather pants were sticking like dandruff to a shirt collar, it was all worth it…and so was the Johnston’s Baby powder. For me it was all about getting out there, selling some CD’s, pulling some wild antics and having a ball.

At the Pub gig that I did in Tamworth, I was lucky enough to have multi Golden Guitar win-ning cinematographer Duncan Toombs’ company Filmery shoot a clip for me, which was a fabulous experience, with a super receptive audience. An-gus Gill - live at the pub is on Youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYOdvMoavDo/ Equally enthusiastic, was the crowd at the Cav-alcade Parade, as we putted down Peel Street in the LIVEWIRE decorated Holden ute. You've been to the festival a couple of times now, why do you keep going back?

Tamworth is about catching up with good mates that I only see once a year, having a yarn and hearing their stories. A lot of my CMAA Country Music College mates live on the other side of this country, so it is great to catch up with

them at a gig.Interviewing on the red carpet at the 42nd CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia must have been a wonderful experience?

It was hectic, but fun. I got to catch up with my mate Travis Collins, who must’ve been on the same wavelength as me when he released his album of a similar name and a similar time, “Wired.” Also speaking to my awe-some producer Brad Bergen and Golden Guitar winner Tamara Stewart was brilliant after her hearing the work that is contained on my new album LIVEWIRE.Tell us about your new album; LIVEWIRE, which you launched at the festival...

On arrival at the festival, picking up my completed CD’s from Tamworth Transit was so relieving. I am so proud of this project and the overall response has been over-whelming. Getting out and fl ying the LIVEWIRE fl ag at the Tamworth festival was truly awesome.

I managed to get the A-Listers to help me out on the CD including legendary pedal steel player Michel Rose, Beccy Cole’s ex-husband and Australian fi ddle champion Mick Albeck, Golden guitar winning Roger Corbett and accomplished pianist Michael Varecka were the wired session musicians joining virtuoso guitarist and drummer Brad Bergen.

I can’t wait to launch it around the Mid North Coast and I will be getting out as much as I

can to do gigs around the country. We are currently arranging a songwriting trip and also a brief tour of NT and WA.You received a bit of praise in email form recently, who was that

from?Yes I did. It was extremely

rewarding to receive an email from country music icon and 2008

Australian of the Year Lee Kernaghan praising me on my fi rst single “Tea and Biscuits”, that I co-wrote with Tamara Stewart, he wrote: “I’m really impressed by your vocals and song craft. Our music genre needs more original artists like you telling that great Australian story through song.”Tell us about your new music video and where can we view it?

Creating the “Tea and Biscuits” music video with local videographer Adam Gilmour was so much fun. I wish that Tam and I didn’t write such a descriptive song because we had to clear out Nan’s cupboards and ring friends to try and wing all of the props needed for the clip.

The video was shot at a friend’s place in Com-boyne and we had my real Grandparents acting as themselves. I have no idea how we managed to talk them into it. Grandpa had to pretend he liked the cricket, much to his displeasure. Writing “Tea and Biscuits” with Tam was so awesome and I will never forget that experience. It just fl owed and we had a hell of a time drinking tea and eating monte carlo biscuits beside our laptop computers. The song was really honest and I think the ’cricket’ part of the song was about the only detail we had to make up. Tea and Biscuits video clip is now live on Youtube. How can readers follow you on your music journey?

Cindy Myer from Webstyles in Wauchope has created a new website for me and I feel extremely privileged to work with her. She's done a really funky job! You are about to launch your first debut album Angus; tell us about that…

My forthcoming album is a compilation of mostly

song I’ve co-written or original works. Two examples of exceptions on the disc is my boppy Western Swing cover of a classic Slim Dusty song, Bushland Boogie and a song that Toowoomba Country music artist Alan Mackey wrote for me, titled Help the Candle Burn. I was thrilled to include two songs I co-wrote with Tamara Stewart, hit songwriter and most recently a CMAA award recipient. Your family are a great support, your grandmother in particular is a fantastic influence. How does she help you?

One song, titled Tea and Biscuits, was written about my grandmother and how she revives the wonderful old school traditions. Grandma hates going down to the doctor’s surgery without a crossword puzzle and I asked her to swap her crossword book for a pen and paper pad. I thought I’d give her a few ideas to chew over and see if she could come up with some titles for me.

The title that I took to Tamara was a stand-out selection that Grandma wrote; it had her stamped all over it. Memories at God’s Acre was another song that I co-wrote with Ta-mara. This one was extremely sentimental to write and also for me to perform. I wrote a verse or two about my Pop’s passing and the rituals that Nan would undergo at the cem-etery. I needed an extra verse about my Pop’s

life and I took it to the wonderful songstress Tamara, and in 15 minutes, she had weaved another masterpiece. What are some other songs on the album?

Also included on the album is “ Trails of Crime”, a song I wrote a few years ago about notori-ous bushranger Jimmy Governor, who was shot out the back of Wauchope. Also, “Last Song on the Radio” is rather fitting, as I am a fully qualified radio presenter and love it. It is written about the history of the “wireless”, I am comparing the past with the future and hoping that I won’t be around to hear the last song on the radio. As technology advances, I hate to say it, but we are losing some forms of entertainment.

My composition “Drover Street” is a song I wrote with Coonamble’s Cate Tempo. This song is all about urbanization and my childhood playground. Keep posted for the launch dates for my album via the mailing list on my website www.angusgill.com/You have been busy organizing and co-ordinating the Wauchope Country Club Talent Quest. How did this come about?

I have been on the talent quest circuit for

many years as a developing musician and have been involved in many shows over the

years, when I was asked to organise the Wauchope Country Club’s Talent

Quest I jumped at the chance to sit back and observe the

artists coming through. The talent quest will showcase the growing talents of singers, musicians, rappers, dancers, actors and poets in the local area.

Can people still enter the quest and what’s

involved? It is not too late to register

for the talent quest, we have $1000 up for grabs, plus prizes and

you only have to be 8 years or over to enter. Entry is only $10 and the forms are on my website http://www.angusgill.com/talent-quest/. I will also be recording the highlights of the talent quest for my radio program on Sunday afternoons from 4-6pm on 103.9 2WAY FM or http://2wayfm.listen2myradio.com/. Our first show kicked off on the 11th August with the Vocal and Instrumental section, this was held in the Downstairs Auditorium of the Wauchope Country Club and was a great afternoon of entertainment.

Music heats were held on the 18th and 25th of August. Dance, Drama and Poetry sections heats will be held on 1st, 8th and

15th September, Semi Finals will be on 22nd September and the Grand Final will be on the 29th September. I will be busy, busy, busy! I am looking forward to being the M.C. for the Grand Final – it will be a fantas-tic night and I invite everyone to come along for an evening of fantastic local entertain-ment.On another note, you have just returned from the inaugural Singer/Songwriter’s Retreat at the DAG Sheep Station in Nundle. What did you learn there to help you with your musical career?

I had an awesome time writing and learn-ing with Golden Guitar winners/finalists such as Bill Chambers, Allan Caswell, Aleyce Simmonds, Lachlan Bryan, Amos Morris, Luke O’Shea and NZ Female Artist of the Year - Aly Cook. Meeting and working with some great likeminded songwriters, I came home with some songs I had wished made the deadline for my album.

I wrote a really cool cajun/country blues flavoured song with a Toowoomban Ac-cordion player John Colville and Melbourne Blues/Roots Songbird Cathy Dobson. The DAG was also a great place to take photos, my Dad and Aly Cook had Canon’s armed to gather some shots amongst the rustic scen-ery. The authentic wool shed was marvellous to capture the heart of Country music.
