ANIMATE IT! LIVE is the brand new live show from the award-winning Aardman studios, creators of Wallace & Gromit, Morph and Shaun the Sheep.

In this unique and interactive live experience, the audience are joined by a trainee animator and a trainee director and learn some top tips about stop-frame animation from an expert at Aardman – and even become the stars of an animated movie!

BUTLINS  SCIENCE  FESTIVAL  2015

A trainee animation director and a trainee stop-motion animator dream of working at the world-famous Aardman studios.

As if by magic, they get a ‘live’ link to an expert from Aardmanwho offers to help them and suggests they create a show reel to demonstrate their skills.

They decide to use the audience to create their show reel and demonstrate various animation skills:

REPLACEMENT TECHNIQUESix cut out images of Shaun the Sheep are used to create a sequence that looks like Shaun is running.

CREATING PERSPECTIVEThe whole audience is animated to create a background for Shaun’s running sequence.

SPECIAL EFFECTSSpinning Head – a parent is brought on stage and is used to create a clip where it looks like their head spins around.

Magic Suitcase – four children are brought on stage and create a clip where three of the volunteers climb into a small suitcase, the fourth one closes the suitcase and carries it out of the scene, as if it were light as a feather!

Merlin Crossingham, Creative Director at Aardman, is the Aardman insider. He offers the trainee director and trainee animator some practical tips and advice on how to make their show reel, and provides feedback on the final animation. He appears via 5 clips that act as ‘live’ link ups with the presenters on stage.

Aardman is the world-famous, four times Oscar-

winning animation studio based in Bristol, UK.

The studio is best known for its stop-frame

animation technique with clay puppets and strong,

funny characters, such as family favourites Wallace &

Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Morph.

As well as TV series, Aardman has also

produced 6 feature films including Chicken Run, The

Pirates and Shaun the Sheep The Movie.

For venues with the relevant resources and space available, we also offer additional, hands-on workshops alongside the live show.

These clay building workshops offer a truly unique experience and the opportunity to learn from expert model makers how to make world famous Aardman characters.

MODEL MAKING WORKSHOPS

• Can be booked as stand-alone events, or can form a package of activity alongside the Live Show e.g. in venue foyers

• Minimal resources required

STORYBOARDING WORKSHOPSAardman run storyboarding and animation workshops at a variety of public venues, schools and festivals.

These fun, hands-on sessions are led by experts from Aardman and provide a unique and creative way for the whole family to learn about Aardman’s animation processes.

ZOETROPE ACTIVITIESLearn how to use a zoetrope by drawing a simple strip of animation, placing inside the zoetrope and creating an optical illusion of still images appearing to move! Great fun for all ages.
