ABOUT THE DIRECTOR - KENNETH HUGH MacDONALD
\Ve of Civic Theater arc very grateful to i\ Jr. i\lacDonald for the
way he has stepped into the director's shoes and guided what we think
will be one of om greatest comedy successes. T his play 11·as originall y
cast and under the direction o[ Bill Mehegan, whom we thank again
for his marvelous, yet. touching, " Home o[ the Brave. " Bill's personal
business necessitated his being out of the city during this week, so
was unable to be with us. Kenneth a~-,TJ-ced to take over, and consequentl y
changes had to be made in casting, sett ing, and so on down the line.
Ken's backgTound, which touches on the prol.ession, si nee he played
in a Moss Hart production in 1\ew York City, along with many other
successes, gives him many qualifications for this undertaking. \ Ve hope
you all enjoy our cast in "Born Yesterday."

KENNETH MacDONALD (Harry Rroci<) makes another appearance with Civic Theater tonight, which adds to his already long list of acting accomplishments. Among the plays too ntnncrous to list, is one of his favorites that we will all remember. Ken's portrayal of Lieut. Roberts in the production MT. Roberts, won him the Oscar for the Best Actor. Kenneth is a past president of the Theater and was very active during J1is :three years on the Board of Directors. Our appreciations for Ken's contributions this evening arc twofold. Besides his portrayal of the character of Harry Brock, be has been the able director of Born Yesterday. Kenneth, while salcsmanagcr for WPAG, does not end his contributions with the aid in building a more successful Civic Theater but also in helping to make our community a better place in which to live.
JOAN CONOVER (Billie Dawn) is making her first appearance on sfitgc with Civic Theater tonight, however she has been a back stage worker. Joan has appeared with Gilbert & Sullivan here in Ann Arbor and also in Riverhead, Long Island. ·we arc sure you will enjoy her portrayal of Billie Dawn. * ROY BERRY (bm·/Jer) is probably most fitted for his part tonight as he was one of Ann Arbor's foremost barbers, now retired from the trade. Roy has .· been a theater fan for years, however tonight he becomes a doer instead of a viewer.
THE ANN ARBOR CI VIC THEATER wishes to thank

* BOB ESHELMAN (Waiter) is not a new member with Civic Theater, although he is making his debut on stag<' tonight. Bob in his quiet way is one of our best backstage workers.
* ROBERT P. LOGAN (Second BelllwjJ) has formerly appeared with C ivic Theater in Jloliday, Teu Little Indians a nd Mr. Rqberts. He appeared most recently in the lJ. of l\1. prod uct ion of Detective Story. Bob is a member of the Board of Directors and publicity cha irm an. He is presently chief photographer at the Veterans Hospital.
* TOM LILLARD (First Bellltop) makes his first appearance with Civic Theater tonight. He is a student at Ann Arbor High School. * ALEX AZARY (Assistant Hotel Mm111ger) can be remembered for his appearances in The Spider, Holiday and Mr. Roberts. Alex has been with Civic Theater three years an<l won his Oscar for a supporting role during the 1951-52 season. * LUCILLE TALAYCO (Helen) makes her debut with Civic Theater tonight. However, she is not new to the stage. She is a graduate of the Univers ity and can be remembered as "Liz" in Student Player's Philadelphia Story. Now, besides being a housewife, she keeps busy as a secretary for the Student Legislature at the University.
* .JON FULLERTON (Bootblack) is one of our youngest but best workers. His specialty is set painting; however, tonight he gets a taste of grease paint.
