Life Sucks…..But you got to Laugh!!

A strange title you may think, but it is true. Life has thrown you a bad hand, and itdoes suck, but you have to ensure you keep smiling and laughing!! ust think for any

disabled or able bodied person the day they sit on the couch stuffing their faces anddoing nothing makes them feel worse than getting up and living. hat " am saying isthe less you do the less you want to do, the more you do the more you want to do.A down day will always mean my transfers from my wheelchair are bad, " willinevitably end up falling and everything goes wrong. #n an up day things are $usteasier and life is happier and the world is a better place. "t takes a lot more energy tocry than it does to smile

%e%y name is Annabelle %oult, " was born on the &th August '()* +" am - this yeararrrggghhh!!!! . " live with my lovely /usband in Buckinghamshire 01 and work at

2ew 3ra 4ap 4ompany 3%3A. & years ago this year on the rd September *--5 " fellill, the good thing is though that ' year to the day of the &th year Anniversary will bemy 'st year edding Anniversary to my gorgeous husband 6anny, who has made mylife a better place by being in it, and without his strength and support through all ofthis " would be in a much worse place. /e helped to save my life!! And now the badday has been turned into a good day!!

hat happened7& years ago this year on the rd September *--5 " woke up in the morning with a very

bad headache and blurred vision +" initially thought " had a very bad vino hangover!!8he day carried on and " started to get really painful pins and needles in my legs, so "kept having scolding hot baths as this seemed to ease the pain. 6anny +my /ubby, butBoyfriend at the time took me to see the /armony 6octors at the /ospital, " was told" might be anaemic and to go home and rest and go to the 6octors in the morning!!So " went home went to bed as " was told, in the middle of the night " got up to go tothe bathroom and collapsed. " realised that my legs were not doing anything, soshouted through to 6anny that my legs were not working and we needed to get to thehospital. /e carried me to the car and we went to Aand3.

/ospital

At the /ospital " was made to sit on a hard trolley for nearly ' hours before someonesaw me, by this time " was paralysed from my chest down and my vision wasdecreasing rapidly. 8he 6octors could not work out what was wrong with me " had%9" Scans, Lumber :unctures, :lasma 3;change, so much blood taken every day allmy veins gave up, " was put on a very high dose of steroids for the first week to help

bring down the swelling in my brain, which they had seen on the %9" Scan. dayslater " was totally blind. " was initially at Stoke %andeville hospital but it was decided" be moved to 8he ohn 9adcliffe in #;ford due to the high standard of their

2eurological 4are. " was in hospital for nearly < months, they were unsure of whatwas wrong with me and due to how =uickly my illness came on they were unsure if "would ever get better +which they informed my mum and 6anny . 8he 9 were

magnificent, " had 6octors around me all day every day trying to work out what hadhappened and what was wrong with me. Luckily " was allowed to have someone

+6anny, my %um or a family member with me all day every day, this enabled tokeep some normality to my life, even if it was $ust someone getting me up and helpingme to wash and dress. Some days going to get a coffee or lunch in the hospital. "t wasvital that this was done and it helped to keep my spirits higher than e;pected." initially dropped down to < stone and was so frail " could not even put my own hair

up or brush my teeth. But that was a small mission " was able to complete within amonth or so." was moved back to Stoke %andeville once " started to get my strength back, myeyesight had come back so " could see shadows and although still paralysed from thechest down " was able to work my wheelchair and manoeuvre around. " spent about <weeks in the Spinal 0nit where " did physio every day, wheelchair skills and generaleveryday things to learn how to best work with living in a wheelchair and being blind." left hospital at the end of >eb *--) at nearly '5stone +due to the steroids , fullywheelchair bound and blind +although " was making more definition of things andstarting to see a little colour ." have always tried to maintain a sense of humour and never ask ?why me@ in my eyeswhy should it not be me7

ork As said above " work for 2ew 3ra 4ap 4ompany, who have been great in supportingme throughout my illness. 8hey have made the offices accessible for me to get aroundand " have a large screen with magnifying software to ensure " can see what " amdoing and working on. " left hospital at the end of >eb on a >riday and was back inwork by the %onday!! %ad you may think, but it kept me sane. " was back to work days a week for the first < months, $ust to ease me into working life again. " was alsovery tired all the time so " had to be careful that being back at work did not take me

back to s=uare one again. By the September that year " was back at work full time andhave been ever since. 9emember $ust because life has changed does not mean it has tostop, there is Access 8o ork in the 01 which helps to assist 6isabled people get

back to work and live as much of a normal life as they possibly can, ensure your work are aware of your situation and ensure you keep them updated and in the loop withyou and what is going on so they can support you in the best way they can. 2ew 3rahave supported me through this whole thing and " am very grateful to how they havedealt with it and given me the support " need to maintain a $ob and normal lifestyle.

>riends and >amily"t is vital to keep positive people around you and unfortunately when times get hard

you will find out who your friends and family really are, " have lost friends throughthis and also pushed people away, but it will make those that stick around even closerto you. %y friends and family have been ama ing and " could not have got to where "am now without their help, love and support. 2ever give up, as said a down day isharder than an up day, keep smiling and laugh it is vital to ensure your wellbeing.

6iagnosis"t took * years before " was 6iagnosed with 6evics 2%#, so for that time until mydiagnosis " felt like a total alien, " did not know what was wrong with me, " had noidea what to do or what to read to help me understand my illness and " could not finda person in a similar situation to talk to and understand the situation " was in. "t was a

* year battle and sometimes =uite a lonely place, but once " was diagnosed it wasgreat to be able to have information to look into and understand what was going on

and improves me to my goal of walking and seeing fully again.ithout having found these alternative therapies my and body would not be as well as
