Anniversaries and the Website

AA anniversaries are a wonderful way of being of service. Celebrating an

anniversary whether it is 30 days or 30 years is a joyful, communal way to show

that the program of Alcoholics Anonymous really works, one day at a time. Since

we live in a rural region, AA anniversaries often bring together people from all over

the district and the area. Folks will often make a special trip to travel to an

anniversary meeting and reconnect with other AA’s they might not see on a regular

basis.

Now that our new website http://district16.aahmbny.org is up and running,

consider listing your AA anniversary celebration on the website. Any AA member

can email their anniversary and celebration directly through the site so that our

Webmaster can post the information. Information on AA anniversaries,

announcements or flyers that need to be posted on the website can be emailed to our

Webmaster, Carla C. at [email protected]

Our public relations policy is based on attraction

rather than promotion; we need always maintain

personal anonymity at the level of

press, radio and films.

-Twelve and Twelve

So states Tradition Eleven. At the February

GSR meeting, the issue was raised whether or not to

post on the area website www.aahmbny.org that a

certain group needs support. Its membership and

attendee numbers are dwindling and it is struggling. At

first, the suggestion to note the group’s distress on the

website was welcomed but then, another AA member

quoted attraction not promotion. Discussion ensued, no

agreement was made and the issue was tabled for the

next GSR meeting on March 18th, 2014.

What do you think? Come join the discussion.

Spiritual Breakfast The annual Spiritual Breakfast is

scheduled for Saturday, May 24th from 9am

until noon at the Saugerties Senior Center,

207 Market Street, Saugerties NY 12477.

Guest speaker at 11am. Suggested donation

$5 but not required to attend.

50/50 Raffle & Literature Table available.

The facility is handicapped accessible.

Save the date for a morning of

good food and great fellowship

Attraction Not Promotion Is the AA Website Considered Promotion?

Tradition Three

The only requirement for AA membership is a desire

to stop drinking.

The February Grapevine, featured a story titled 24 Hour Delivery

about Meetings on Wheels, a program launched three years ago by the

Louisville, Kentucky Intergroup Accessibility Committee with help from

clubhouses in San Francisco and Reno. Louisville’s Meetings on Wheels

has about 70 volunteers who are willing to take a standard one hour AA

meeting to those cannot attend meetings due to accident, illness or a

chronic medical condition. AA members interested in a mobile meeting

call Intergroup and provide basic contact information, program

coordinators follow up to set up a time and a date for the meeting, email

the meeting request to volunteers and within 24 to 48 hours, the Meeting

on Wheels can be at a member’s doorstep. In our area, Many AA’s bring meetings to homebound friends

but what about having an organized Meeting on Wheels program available

for our Area or District to serve those AA’s who are unable because of

illness or other handicap to make it out to scheduled meetings?

Meetings on Wheels: An Interesting New Meeting Model?

Open Service Positions The District has two open positions Grapevine/Literature Chair: Keeps a stock of catalogs for Conference-approved literature; maintains an ample supply of current General Service Conference-approved pamphlets, books and audiovisual material; sets up this material for viewing and sale at functions, including: other District events; orders literature for district activities as needed; becomes familiar with the general contents of all literature, in order to provide information to inquirers; works with other Committee Chairs to aid in their activities; provides information to all groups in the District about the International Monthly Journal of Alcoholics anonymous known as The Grapevine/La Vina; sets up a Grapevine/La Vina display at all District functions. Public Information Chair: provides information to all local newspapers and periodicals; makes PSA available to local radio and television stations; provides contact with local education facilities with speakers, film, literature and other information available; helps organize and set up meetings at school facilities as needed.

Interested? Speak with your GSR, attend the

next District meeting on March 17th at 7pm at

the Reservoir Methodist Church in Shokan or

email our DCM at

[email protected].

Concept Three: To ensure effective leadership, we should endow each element of AA – the Conference, the General Service Board and its service corporations, staffs, committees and executives – with a traditional ‘Right of Decision.’
