Friends in Christ: Let us confess our sins to God our Father and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.C: We confess that we are born in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have failed to do.

We have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. We deserve your eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us. Amen.

The Psalm of the Day (Psalm 130)TUNE: I heard the voice of Jesus say

Out of the depths, I cry to you,Lord, hear my tearful prayer! If you should mark iniquity,O Lord God, who could stand? But you forgive the sorry soul,so all may fear your name.I wait for you, for you I long, and in your word I hope.

I wait for him, far more than thosewho wait for dawn to come.O Isra-el, hope in the Lord! With him is steadfast love.He has great power to redeem, and he alone can savehis people from their deadly sinand raise them from the grave.

After the Psalm is sung...

C: Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forevermore. Amen.

The Prayer of the Day

Let us pray.Lord, you never fail to help and guide those you bring up in your love. Lead us always to worship and love your holy name. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Response after the Gospel:This is the Gospel of the Lord.Praise be to you O Christ.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

IN CHRIST ALONE

In Christ alone my hope is foundHe is my light my strength my songThis Cornerstone this solid GroundFirm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love what depths of peaceWhen fears are stilled when strivings ceaseMy Comforter my All in AllHere in the love of Christ I standIn Christ alone who took on fleshFullness of God in helpless babeThis gift of love and righteousnessScorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus diedThe wrath of God was satisfiedFor every sin on Him was laidHere in the death of Christ I liveThere in the ground His body layLight of the world by darkness slainThen bursting forth in glorious DayUp from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victorySin's curse has lost its grip on meFor I am His and He is mineBought with the precious blood of ChristNo guilt in life no fear in deathThis is the power of Christ in meFrom life's first cry to final breathJesus commands my destiny

No power of hell no scheme of manCan ever pluck me from His handTill He returns or calls me homeHere in the power of Christ I'll stand.Keith Getty | Stuart Townend 2001 Thankyou Music CCLI Licence # 225140

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. - Matthew 5:8the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart!

The heart is what you are, in the secrecy of thought and feeling, when nobody knows but God.

1 Timothy 1:15 Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners1 Samuel 16:7"Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart"

I. WHY DO WE NEED A PURE HEART?

Jeremiah 17:9 the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.

Matthew 15:1819What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart . . . For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a man. Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.Matthew 22:37

Matthew 19

III.HOW CAN WE HAVE A PURE HEART?

I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts (Jeremiah 31:33)I will give them singleness of heart and action

(Jeremiah 32:39) I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh

(Ezekiel 11:19) Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature;the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

i.By spending time in Gods WordI have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11).

ii. By maintaining fellowship with Gods people. we can spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24). By taking time out to pray Create in me a clean heart, o God, and renew a right spirit in me! (Psalm 51:10).

THE PROMISE TO THE PURE IN HEART

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God (Matthew 5:8)i.promise for the here and now.

All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure (1 John 3:2-3)It will be worth it all, when we see Jesus;Lifes trials will seem so small,When we see ChristOne Glimpse of His Dear FaceAll sorrows will eraseSo bravely run the raceTill we see Christ-Esther Kerr Rusthoi

Lord Jesus, come!

You may stand for silent prayer as the Bell is rung
