UPDATES TO OUR CLASS SCHEDULE: Portraiture 2: Jan Koss will be returning to our Adventures in Learning Program to teach part 2 of

Drawing Portraits; Painting the Portrait in Watercolor. This class will be for people who took her

course during the Winter session or people that have at least an intermediate knowledge of drawing

portraits. During this class Jan will introduce water colors to the portrait process. Students are

responsible for purchasing their own supplies. There is a 20 person class limit. You may call the

office to have your name added to the registration or send in your registration.

Jewelry Making Workshop: Gary Davis has offered to teach Wire Jewelry making during the

jewelry making workshop. This is a different kind of jewelry making that has been offered in the

past. There will be a $15 fee for materials for each class ($15 x 8 weeks=$120 for the session). The

materials will include use of a jig for design, wire, beads and Celestial crystals. In addition to the

wire jewelry there will be space for people to work on their own projects (workshop). If you are not

able to finish your project during class, Gary will send you home with the necessary supplies to

complete the project. Gary needs at least 6 people to sign up for the course to teach. Please call the

office to get your name on the list or send in your registration.

Yoga for Seniors and Chair Yoga: The yoga classes will be by video for the Spring Session. Our

wonderful yoga instructor, Ginny Ross, is not available for the whole 8 week session. Ginny will be

dropping in to “guest” instruct during the session. Dates that Ginny will be teaching will be posted

to our Facebook page. Check out the information table during the session, we will be posting dates

there as well.

HENRY FLAGLER & ST. AUGUSTINE’S GILDED AGE HOTELS – taught by Dr. Robert

Gold. This class will be a 6 week course, the last day of class will be May 22nd. Robert will guide

the class on a walking tour of multiple locations in St. Augustine on May 26. Proposed locations are

Flagler College (tour cost $10), Ponce de Leon Hotel, Alcazar Cordova and the Memorial

Presbyterian Church. These locations are within a 4 block radius. Lunch will follow at the

Columbia house, order off the menu and purchase your own lunch. SCOOP is working on

transportation, plan on a maximum $20 transportation fee (we are currently shopping the

transportation to get the lowest rate). Estimated total cost, $30. You must take the class to

participate in the tour. Class maximum is 28. You may sign up by calling the office or sending in

your registration.

ANNOUNCING THE SHEPHERD’S CENTER’S VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Maureen Preta will be honored at our Golden Years Gala on May 3! Maureen has been selected

for her outstanding service to SCOOP in 2016. Maureen’s many accomplishments include;

serving on the Board of Directors for the past 5 years and currently serves as vice chairman, is the

“Face” of Scoop at many outside events such as the Clay County Senior Advocacy Council and

various Senior Outreach Expos, coordinates registration on the first day of class, makes sure that

the lunch serving table area is clean, prepares the paper products for lunch and organizes the

servers for the lunch. Maureen always brings great ideas to the table and is committed to making

sure that all aspects of the Shepherd’s Center are successful! Thank you Maureen for all you do

for SCOOP and congratulations!

VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEERS!

“Volunteers are not paid – not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!”

What a great quote that truly exemplifies what a difference the volunteers at The Shepherd’s Center

make! Our volunteers work in the office, serve lunch, teach classes and help with breakdown and set up for the

Adventure’s in Learning Program.

Our office volunteers; Verna Riley, Linda Franks, Joetta Clovis, Chris Bass, Barbara Evans and Joyce

Manson, assist with answering the phone, processing registrations and donations, data entry and work on the

newsletter. SCOOP is in need of a volunteer to help on Thursdays in the office, mornings are preferred and we

will work with your schedule.

Breakdown and setup volunteers: Maria Macleod and Sandy Mills set up tables, move chairs, place

signs and signup sheets in classrooms and make sure all of your Adventure in Learning Classes are ready to go

for you! SCOOP needs help with set up and break down! Do you know of someone that can come in for 1

hour in the morning on Mondays (8am) and 1 hour in the afternoon (2:30pm), that has strong muscles to move

heavy items? SCOOP has been looking for this person for the past 6 months without success. Maybe you

know of someone recently retired or a a home schooled high school student that may want to make a few extra

dollars (yes, you read right, we are willing to pay the right individual to help us out).

Lunch volunteers; Linda Franks, Katie Tibbets, Jane Maierhoffer, Sandra Mills, Pat Fiedler, Lorraine

Cumm, Donna Browne, Barbara Elliot, Bill Snyder, Jenny White, Verna Riley, Suzanne Tower, Jane Bailey,

Joetta Clovis, Susan Stobe and Maureen Preta serve lunch each Monday. Maureen is always looking for people

to assist, she tries to have enough volunteers that you serve only once each session.

Please consider helping in one of the areas above, many hands make for light work! Also, please thank the volunteers that

make your Adventure’s in Learning Programs run effortlessly!

LEGACY GIVING/PLANNED GIVING

“Legacy, what is left behind through the actions of a Lifetime!

You have an opportunity to invest in a place like no other. A place that has been carefully cultivated in order to

continue its commitment to our members—to society—to be a place of learning, understanding, health and

friendship. Please consider including The Shepherd’s Center in your estate planning. Your gift will make a

difference in the lives of seniors for years to come. Contact Christy Fitzgerald at 269-5315 to discuss your

plans.
