KTM 2016

It was officially announced that the Inaugural function of KTM 2016 will be held on 27th September’16 at Le Meridien Convention Centre, Cochin and the Mart from 28th to 30th September, 2016 at Samudrika & Sagara Convention Centre, Willingdon Island, Cochin.

TO THE MEMBERS OF

KERALA TRAVEL MART SOCIETY (REGD.)

Report on the Financial Statements

We have audited the accompanying financial statements of KERALA TRAVEL MART

SOCIETY (Regd.) (“the Society”), which comprise the Balance Sheet as at 31st March,

2016 and Income and Expenditure Account for the year then ended, and a summary of the

significant accounting policies and other explanatory information.

Management’s Responsibility for the Financial Statements

The Society’s Management is responsible for the preparation of these financial statements.

This responsibility includes the design, implementation and maintenance of internal control

relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements that are free from

material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.

Auditors’ Responsibility

Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit.

We conducted our audit in accordance with the Standards on Auditing issued by the Institute

of Chartered Accountants of India. Those Standards require that we comply with ethical

requirements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether

the financial statements are free from material misstatement.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and the

disclosures in the financial statements. The procedures selected depend on the auditor’s

judgement, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial

statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor

considers internal control relevant to the Society’s preparation and fair presentation of the

financial statements in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the

circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the

Society’s internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of the

accounting policies used and the reasonableness of the accounting estimates made by the

Society’s Management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial

statements.

We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a

basis for our audit opinion on the financial statements.

Opinion

In our opinion and to the best of our information and according to the explanations given to

us, the aforesaid financial statements give a true and fair view in conformity with the

accounting principles generally accepted in India:-

a) in the case of Balance Sheet, of the State of Affairs of the Society as at 31st March,

2016; and

b) in the case of Income and Expenditure Account, of the surplus for the year ended on

that date.

Schedule No. 10 – Significant Accounting Policies and Notes on Accounts

A. Significant Accounting Policies

1. Basis of Accounting

The accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention on accrual basis

of accounting.

2. Use of Estimates

The preparation of the financial statements in conformity with Indian GAAP

requires the Management to make estimates and assumptions considered in the

reported amounts of assets and liabilities (including contingent liabilities) and

the reported income and expenses during the year. The Management believes

that the estimates used in preparation of the financial statements are prudent and

reasonable. Future results could differ due to these estimates and the differences

between the actual results and the estimates are recognised in the periods in

which the results are known / materialise.

3. Fixed Assets

Fixed Assets are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation.

4. Depreciation

Depreciation is provided at the rates prescribed in the Income Tax Act, 1961.

5. Revenue Recognition

Membership entrance fee is considered as capital receipt and credited to Capital

Fund. Annual Subscription fee is considered as revenue receipt and credited to

Income and Expenditure Account. Revenue from Kerala Travel Mart is

recognised upon rendering of the service. Interest income is recognised on time

proportion basis.

6. Income tax is recognised as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

B. Notes on Accounts

1. The society has been registered under section 12AA of the Income Tax Act,

1961 by the Commissioner of Income Tax, Cochin vide Order No:

CIT/CHN/12A/Tech-49/2001-02 dated 23rd February, 2005. In view of this

order, the society is not liable to income tax on its income.

The society consists of members operating in Travel, Tourism and Hotel

industry. The main objective of the Society is to promote this industry with the

support and advice of the Government of Kerala.

2. Employees Provident Fund & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 and Payment

of Gratuity Act, 1972 are not applicable to the Society because the number of

employees is below the statutory minimum required under the Acts.

3. Estimated amount of contracts remaining to be executed on Capital Account and

not provided for ` Nil (Previous Year ` Nil)

4. The Society does not have share capital. Hence disclosure of Earnings per Share

as per Accounting Standard 20 – Earnings per Share is not applicable to the

Society.

5. The Society has not entered into any ‘related party’ transaction, as defined in

Accounting Standard 18 – Related Party Transactions, during the year. Hence

disclosures required under the Standard are not applicable to the Society.
