Annual Charge Conference

November 12, 2019 7:00 pm

Redlands First Church 1 East Olive Ave., Redlands

All Church members are welcome to attend this

meeting.

Dear loved ones at the House of Faith,

Would you recognize what the picture is? They are old speakers hanging

from the ceiling in Fellowship Hall, which have not been in operation for a

decade or longer. Paul, Deb’s husband, recently tested the speakers and

learned that they are in good working condition. Thanks to Paul’s lead, I

worked on the amplifier in the rear of the hall and man+aged to repair it.

The fellowship hall is now equipped with two independent sound systems.

Also, lights on stage, kitchen, Cressy room, and the family bathroom are all

replaced with LED bulbs. My next project for LED lighting is the education

building.

We are very saddened by the disastrous inferno, which broke out shortly

after a trash truck dumped burning garbage near Sandalwood Drive and Seventh Street in Calimesa on

Thursday, October 10, 2019. Very strong Santa Ana winds caused the fire to spread quickly into the nearby

Villa Calimesa Mobile Home Park. It destroyed 73 mobile homes, a park clubhouse, damaged 16 other homes,

and burned over 1000 acres. Considering the magnitude of the disaster, the human casualties could have been

greater. Still, two lives were lost. David and Prajna Faux, Pastor Ron and Joan Faux’s children, lost their home

in the fire as well. Thankfully, they found and moved into an apartment shortly after the fire.

Homes can be rebuilt and life can recover from tragedy with help. Let us lend our hands to help the victims re-

establish their lives through our service and contributions. Please donate compassionately and send the funds to

UMCOR (United Methodist Commission on Relief). Unlike many non-profit organizations, the operation of

UMCOR is funded by the denomination so that 100% of your giving is sent to the designees. You could just

give your donation to the church and we will deliver it to the local organizations directly. Our church has

delivered $1125 worth of script cards to the fire victims so far. Script cards are a more desirable method of help,

because the victims can purchase items they need. The Redlands Mission Area Churches have decided that

helping the Sandalwood fire victims in Calimesa will be the mission project for the year. We will also be

collecting a special offering at the Mission Area Charge Conference on Nov. 12.

Believe it or not, the year 2019 has only two months left. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and Christmas

will be here before you know it. Our annual Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on November 24, following

Sunday worship. This is for the whole church family, extended families, and friends. Please make every effort

to attend our annual feast and have a heart-warming camaraderie. Our main dish will be five star restaurant

quality turkey, ham, and Sockeye salmon from Alaska. Volunteers for the main dish are already lined up. We

could take one or two more volunteers to cook turkey or ham for main dish, the rest of you could bring mashed

potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, dinner rolls, pumpkin pies, cranberry sauce, salads, desert, and others food

items. We will also need volunteers who can work in the kitchen, decorate tables, and clean up afterwards.

If any of you are in need of a pastoral visit, especially if you are in hospital, let the office or me know. News

travels fast but it does not necessarily get through to the office or myself. You could reach me by email

[email protected] or by phone 951-217-9701. Or just swing by the church to talk to me. You might find

me working on light bulbs on the ladder but I would be delighted to talk to you.

See you-all in church.

Bible Study with Rev. Deena Barwick

There are two passages of scripture that seem

undeniably "the same" - one from the Old

Testament and one from the New Testament. Is

one a prophecy and the other a fulfillment? OR is

the Psalm passage so important that it is repeated

to remind us to care for others? Or is it something

entirely different? I invite you for interesting

discussions with an in-depth study of Psalm 34

with a different approach to this passage in

Matthew. This will be a 4-week informal bible

study scheduled for Tuesdays: October 15, 22, 29

and November 5th. You may attend either the

2:30 pm or the 6:00 pm session or move between

them as your schedule allows. We will meet in

the Library. Please join us to discover how God

is calling us to a deeper understanding of caring

for others. Coffee and Tea will be provided.
