1. Maj. Gen. S.L. Bhatia Oration Award to be given to an Indian Scientist of eminence who would havesubstantially contributed to the research and development in the field of Physiology/Pharmacologyor Allied sciences through outstanding works carried out primarily in India.

2. Prof. Baldev Singh Oration Award for recognition of outstanding work carried out in the field of NeuroPhysiology/Neuro Sciences.

3. M.L. Gupta Prize in Medical Education and Technology for recognition of substantial contribution toMedical Education and Technology with special reference to Physiology / Pharmacology / AlliedSciences, in India.

Conditions

1. All the Awards and Prizes are meant for the Life Members of APPI only, except R. Srinivasan andHarish Gupta Prizes, for which the candidate should have been enrolled at least as an Annualmember of APPI.

2. All the Nominations/Applications for various Orations, Awards and Prizes should be submitted tothe General Secretary of APPI in four sets on or before the prescribed date. Nominations / Applicationssent after the due date will NOT be considered. However, R. Srinivasan and Harish Gupta prizes willbe awarded to the best paper presented by a P.G. and U.G. student respectively during the AnnualConference of APPI. These applicants should have been enrolled atleast as members of APPI andshould have been registered as delegates for the Annual Conference. The Organizing Secretary willarrange a separate scientific session for these papers on the first or second day of the AnnualConference and a panel of judges constituted by the General Secretary would assess these papersduring their presentation. However, in view of large number of entries specially for R. SrinivasanPrize making itextremely difficult to arrange for their presentations on a single day and also get them it assessedby a single panel of Judges, the P.G. students applying for R. Srinivasan Prize should send threesets of their full length paper to the organizing secretary of the conference one month earlier to thedate of the conference. Whenever the number of papers submitted exceeds ten, they will be shortlisted to the best of ten papers after a scrutiny by a scientific committee constituted by the organizingsecretary and only those ten candidates will be permitted to present their papers during the conferencefor final selection. However for Harish Gupta Prize, three sets of the abstracts must be sent to theorganizing secretary of the conference well in advance. The winners will be awarded their prizes onthe spot or during the valedictory function of the said conference.

3. The applicant should not have received any prize for the same work / paper in the past from anyorganization. The applicant should enclose a certificate to this effect. However, this is not applicablefor awards No. 1 to 3 and II.

4. Nominations for awards No. 1 to 3 and II should include the Bio-data of the nominee, justification fornomination by the nominator, list of references and consent of the nominee.

5. Applications for the award No. 4 to 10 should be based on the original work conducted prefereablyin India / recently published / under publication / unpublished work. Four copies of the reprints/manuscripts should reach the General Secretary on or before the prescribed date.

6. Where, there are multiple authors, all other authors must nominate the proposed author for theaward based on the major quantum of the work done by the applicant.

7. Prof. R.C. Shukla Award will be given for the best paper submitted in cardio vascular physiology.There is no age bar but the applicant should be a member of APPI. The paper submitted for thisaward should be the original work conducted by the scientist in India / Abroad and should not havereceived any other Award/Prize for the same work.

8. For Prof. Puthuraya Oration Award, interested teachers in Physiology who are the life members ofAPPI may sednd their consent letter, duly proposed and seconded by two life members of APPI,

along with his/her professional profite as a teacher. The profile should include educational qualification,

number of years of teaching experience (U.g./P.G.) classes taught (U.G./P.G./Ph.D.), number of

Dissertations / Thesis guided/co-guided (M.Sc./D.D./Ph.D.), Examinerships (U.G./P.G./Ph.D.),

Award/Honours received, number of books authored and number of papers published / conferences,workshops, seminars etc., attended at the National & International level. The Proposer / Seconder

should also send the names and addresses of at least nine students (Former / Present) of the

teacher who can be contacted for an confidential assessment of their teacher through a questioner

specially prepared for the said purpose.

Procedure for selection and thereafter

1. A panel of judges will be constituted by the General Secretary to assess various nominations/

papers. The judges will be senior Scientists / Professors with outstanding academic career and

experiences in that particular specially for which a particular Prize / Award is meant and they shall

not be from the same Institution from where there are applicants for that particular award. Overall

consensus of the judges will be final.

2. All the Awards / Prizes of APPI will be decided in the same year and the winners of various awards

and prizes except award No. 12 and 13 will be informed well in advance by the General Secretary.

They will be presented, their Awards / Prizes during the Inaugural function of the Annual Conference

of APPI and will be invited by the Oraganizing Secretary to deliver their oration or present their paperduring the Annual Conference of APPI in the same year.

3. All the Award / Prize winners will be presented a memento and a certificate from the APPI and not

any TA / DA. Payment of their TA / DA and providing Local Hospitality is optional on the part of the

organizers of the conference depending on their financial status. All the Award/Prize winners have

to register as delegates for the conference. However, they can apply for a Subsistance Allowancefrom APPI provided tha they are not getting any financial assistances from any other sources. The

subsistance allowance shall be to and fro second class train fare from the place of their work to the

city of the conference.

4. All the Award / Prize winners are requested to receive their Award/Prize in person and deliver their

oration or present their paper during the Annual Conference of APPI of the same year.

5. If no paper is found suitable for a particular Award / Prize, there will be no award for that year.

6. The selected paper, if it is unpublished will be published in IJPP. In such case, the paper submittedfor publication should not ordinarily contain more than 2500 words and as per format of IJPP.

7. Canvassing or presurising for an award will be treated as a demerit for the contestants.

8. If any Award / Prize winner is unable to receive his / her Award / Prize personally and present thepaper due to ungoidable circumstances, the said Award / Prize will be retained in the office of theAPPI for one more year and will be handed over to them during the APPI conference of the subsequentyear when he/she has to present the paper.

BEST BRANCH AWARD

Nomination for the Best Branch Award may be submitted to the General Secretary, APPI by

the Local Branch Secretaries with a list of activities orgaized by their branch during the year.

Criteria for assessing the branch for the Best Branch Award of APPI

Such of those Local Branches which desires to contest for the Best Branch Award of APPI, should

furnish the following informations to the General Secretary of APPI through their Local Branch Secretary

with in the last date fixed.

1. List of the members of the Local Branch who have enrolled as Life / Annual members of APPI.

2. List of the Scientific meeting / Guest Lectures / Symposia / Workshops or CME programmes

conducted by the Local Branch during the year along with name of the speakers and participants.

3. Research papers presented by the members of the local branches in the National / InternationalConferences / meetings during the year.

4. National / International Conferences / meetings attended by the members of the Local Branch

during the year.

5. Number of Research papers published / submitted in the scientific journals by the members of theLocal Branch during the year.

6. Any other Recognitions / Awards received by the members of the Local Branch during the year.

7. Any other reports or Branch activity if any.

SUBSISTENCE ALLOWANCE

APPI has created a subsistence allowance fund out of the donations received from some of the Seniormembers of the Association in order to provide financial assistance to younger scientists. Such of thoseJunior Members of the Association who are Life members and who have registered for the AnnualConference with a paper to present during the conference are eligible to apply for the subsistenceallowance provided they are not getting any financial assistence from any other sources. This Subsistenceallowance will be awarded only once to a member and will be to the extent of the second class to and frotrain fare from the place of their work to the city of the conference. Interested members can submit theirapplication to the Finance Secretary, APPI Dept. of Physiology, AIIMS, New Delhi - 110029 before theAnnual Conference.

1. The General Secretary of the APPI will request all the Local Branches and suitable senior member

of the APPI to send proposals for holding the Annual Conference, atleast two months before every

Annual Conference of that particular year.

2. The proposal for holding the Conference can be sent by the Branches of the APPI to the General

Secretary at any time of the year even before receiving the invitation from the General Secreatary.

3. All the proposals, received by the General Secretary will be placed before the Executive Committee

and the General Body for approval. Applicants will be subsequently informed the decision taken

thereupon.

4. The dates of the conference should normally be from December 27-29. However, the local branches

can request the Executive Committee and the General Body for any alternation in the date of

conference, if there is any difficulty in holding the conference on the above mentioned dates. Also

under unforeseen circumstances, the conference organisers can change the date of the conference,

after getting approval from the General Secretary for the same.

5. The registration fee to be charged by the conference organisers may be approved by the Executive

Committee and General Body, based on the proposals put forward by the conference organisers.

6. After getting approval of the proposal for holding the Conference the local branches can take further

steps for organisating the conference.

7. A local Organising Committee may be constituted by the local branch or by the Organising Secretary

as soon as the venue of the conference is decided. The intimation regarding the formation of the

local Organising Committee may be sent to the General Secretary and the Finance Secretary of

the APPI.

8. The local Organising Committee can include the office bearers of the local branch (where the local

branch exists), members of the APPI or any other members. Added to this, they can also have an

advisory committee in which non members of APPI can also be included.

9. The refundable advance money or Rs. 10,000/- will be sent by the Finance Secretary to the

Organising Secretary on request immediately on receipt of information about the formation of

Organising Committee. The Organising Committee will also be provided with the latest list of

members of the APPI by the General Secretary.

10. The Organising Committee should normally open an account in a scheduled bank in the name of

the conference. The said account should be jointly operated by any two of the following office

bearers i.e., President or Chairman of the Organising Committee, Organising Secretary and a

Treasurer.

11. The first announcement of the conference will be sent by the Organising Secretary to all the

members of the APPI atleast 8 months period to the conference.

12. A final announcement of the conference may be sent to all the members of the APPI atleast before

4 months of the conference. This announcement should have all details about submission of

manuscripts, registration, accommodation, subsistance allowance forms and railway concession

forms (if applicable) etc.

13. The Organising Committee can constitute various sub-committees to manage the various aspects

of the conference.

14. The Organising Secretary, should inform the delegates about the acceptance of paper and the

amount received preferably within a month after the last date for submission of paper. Those, who

are in need of provisional acceptance of their paper without paying the registration fee should write

to the Organising Secretary, at least one month before the last date.

15. The Organising Committee may seek guidance from General Secretary, Finance Secretary and

from the Scientific advisory committee from time to time for the smooth conductance of conference.

16. The programme should have provision for the Executive Committee meeting, on the day before the

conference and General Body meeting, on the second day of the conference. It is preferable to

have this meetings in the evenings until and unless there is any specific reason for changing the

timings. These informations should be intimated, sufficiently in advance to all the Executive

Committee Members concerned i.e., to all the branch Secretaries, representatives of local branches

to Central Executive Committee, to Founder Members and also to all Ex-General Secretaries.

17. Abstracts submitted for the conference should be published as an abstract volume suppliment of

the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology. The details for the same will be provided by

the Editor in chief of IJPP. This suppliment abstract volume of the scientific papers of the conference

will be published by the organizers of the Annual Conference and covers for the same will be

supplied by the IJPP. Conference Organizers will also provide about 400-500 copies of the same to

IJPP for distribution among the members of APPI.

18. The Scientific programme of the conference should have free communications session (oral/poster

presentation). It can also have invited lectures and symposia. The speakers invited for “symposia”

and “invited lectures” should have contributed sufficiently in the field as evident from their publication.

19. Member of APPI are eligible for presentation of the paper at the conference.

20. The award papers should be given due importance while arranging the scientific sessions.

21. A separate Scientific Session may be arranged by the Organising Secretary to select the best

papers presented by Postgraduate and undergraduate students for the R. Srinivasan’s prize and

Harish Gupta prize respectively. These sessions may be kept together one day before the General

Body Meeting.

22. The local organising committee should not and TA/DA charge the registration fee and may provide

local hospitality and other facilities such as travel expenses to the office bearers of the APPI on

priority basis.

23. The local organising committee should plan the budget and expenditure in such a way that it will be

able to give about 25% of the registration fee to the IJPP and 50% of the balance to APPI.

24. The money received for the conference should be spent for the conference only. A copy of the

audited statement of account of expenditure should be submitted to the Finance Secretary, APPI

within three months after the conference.
