tasted rancid. Dinner was fine, but

they hope to improve next year.

The New Basketball

Season

By Jessica Bowler—Staff

The first Danville High

School Girls Basketball game of the season is

on the 24th, home vs Paris, IL. Some will be

the main rivals are Champaign Central,

Centennial, Urbana, and Normal Community.

Mr. Anderson said, “The Girls’

Basketball team wants to compete regional

championship. My biggest concern the size

and the healthiness of the team.

Alexis Hoskins a senior said, “My goal

is to win regionals. I am looking forward to

spending time with my teammates and hav-

ing fun. We had practice for only two days

but it is hard work and fun.”

Caitline Wolfe said, “My personal goal

this season is to improve on my skills. I am

looking forward to a successful season with

my team. The season hasn’t really

started yet but it’s going to be a great

season.”

Wrestling Preview By: Marcus C. Coe—Staff

With wrestling season coming up

soon, the wrestling team has been work-

ing hard in practices and open gyms to prepare since the beginning of October. Their first

match will be held on November 28th.

“Our main focus of improvement this year is having more confidence and finishing their

shots,” said Coach Tetter. He also mentioned making improvements himself by humbling himself

more and broadening his willingness to listen. He did admit that his biggest weakness as a coach

is that he is “too nice.”

The main goal for the wrestling team is to grow and develop more, but coach says for him

to count this season as a success he would like “to beat all the county schools, have a 500 record,

and have all his seniors make it to sectionals.”

The wrestling team will be selling popcorn at concession stands as a fundraiser this year so

please support your school’s wrestling team and help raise their funds by buying popcorn at

events.

Diving Right into the

Season

By: Ebony Nash—Staff

Mr. Long says that they haven’t started yet

on anything but they are smaller than they were

last year. Everything for the swim team starts

November 23rd and ends February 27th when they

go to state.

Their first upcoming event is at home on

December 5th but they go to Urbana also on the

same day. He says that he believes the season is

going to be pretty good even though they are

smaller, if they put in enough effort.

They have their first meeting on Tuesday,

November 10th. They are going to get prepared for

their events by practicing every day. They will

practice for 6 days every week, Monday through

Saturday for 2 ½ hours every day. Mr. Long also

says his main goal is to make the kids better

swimmers and better student athletes.

Witnessing Crucible

By Ben Stine—Staff

The DHS fall play is “The Crucible”

written by Arthur C Miller and directed Ms.

Alcantara, the play takes place in Salem

during the 1800’s. The play is rife with

emotion and betrayal and teaches some very

important

The main character John Proctor was

portrayed by Carter Hambley, Reverend Hale

was played by Dakota Ritchey, Elizabeth

Proctor was played by Hailey Youhas, and

Jacob Techtow Reverend Paris. The acting

was phenomenal. The show made a great

use of props. When one of the characters

was arrested they were locked up in a cell on

the stage and the last few acts took place

inside of the cell.

Unequal Rights

By Jessica Bowler—Staff

Employment on reservations are hard to

come by. The largest employers are Tribal and

Federal Governments. Many households earn on-

ly social security, disability, and veteran’s income.

Depending on the reservation 4-8 out of 10

Indians are unemployed. 90,000 Native Americans

are homeless. 30% of houses are crowded and less

than 50% of home utilities are connected to a

public sewer. Indians don’t have phones, running

water, or electricity. Since they don’t have them it

increases health risk on the reservations.

Especially where there is no accessible health

care.

My opinion on this matter seems unequal.

The government should give wel-

fare to Indians, since a lot of them

are on the streets with no home. I

think the government should build

bigger houses and develop more

jobs for them.

Changes to the Village Mall

By: Ben Stine, Nick Goodman, Rakiya Rhodes—Staff

The Danville Village mall was once considered as a fun

place to hang out when it held a rich variety of entertainment

and quality stores to shop in, but due to the fact that they

raised the rent in the mall many stores left because and now

the village mall only has 21 stores in it and no food court..

In order to attempt to bring the mall back to life the

DHS news staff have named some very well-known stores.

These three stores are Hot Topic, PINK, and Finish Line.

Hot Topic- has a wide variety of trendy clothes that will most

certainly attract the attention of teenagers such as; Pink

which has numerous amounts of cute clothes to choose from that will appeal to most girls, and

Finish Line which has a bunch of sports equipment that is just perfect for all sports goers.

Another thing that would satisfy customers in the Village Mall is a food court. These food

places could potentially be, a Chicken-Fil-A, Subs and More, and Panda Express.

The Life of Mrs. Porter

By Skyah Davis—Staff Coming from Liberty Elementary Mrs. Porter, our head principle of the global house, has started working here at DHS at the beginning of the 2015 - 2016 school year. Mrs. Porter is from Wheaton, IL where she graduated from college. She moved to Danville in 1996. She has gotten married and had 2 kids since then. "I wasn't a very good student. My parents al-ways insisted on work ethic, and that's how I got where I am today." Mrs.Porter says. When she was in high school she was always in athletics. That's how she knew she wanted to be an athletic teacher or coach of some sort. Mrs. Porter started her teaching career in Danville, right after college. She was a Physical Educa-tion teacher, along with coaching basketball from 1996-2002. "I got my Administrative Degree in 2003, knowing that one day I'd like to work in ad-ministration. Working here has done a lot for her. She feels more comfortable around staff, she's learned a lot, met many new people, overcame many challenges, and has seen a lot of great things happen here at DHS. "I've been so blessed to work in this office, with this administration. Without Mrs. Parker I would be lost." Mrs. Porter said.

Orme in the Spotlight

By: Kayla Liggett—Staff

Elizabeth Orme was chosen by the

DHS journalism staff as the staff spotlight for

the week of November 9th-13th. Before Mrs.

Orme began working at DHS, she enjoyed

meeting new people and learning new things

about them. She thinks people are interesting

and hated learning in high school because

she would learn things that didn’t apply to

what she wanted to do as a career when she

was older. When asked, she said she enjoys

working with DHS students because they are

fun, funny, and great to work with.

“My Favorite phrase is turn up,” said

Mrs. Orme, “because it’s a lot more fun to say

‘Ahhh turn up’ rather than “wow that’s

exciting”. On her free time she loves to do

ballroom dancing, exercising, and doing

anything that has to do with arts and crafts.

Best In The NBA? Numbers Never Lie! By J.D. Richardson—Editor

Sometimes you hear the students in halls, in the cafeteria, or even in the classrooms fighting about a few

things. #1 issue for male students to fight about at DHS? Who is the best player in the NBA. Simple as that.

That one question alone can lead to hours upon hours of discussion and debating. The typical names come up:

LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, James Harden, etc.

Is there really a correct answer? Students around DHS can agree that each player has a special role to

their own team. Anthony Davis, power forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, has made a huge impact in the

NBA for only being in the league 3 years. This season Davis is averaging 24 points per game, 9 rebounds per

game, and a 47.5% field goal percentage.

Then you have a guy who missed a lot of games last season, played for the Super Sonics (When they were

around), and is “the real MVP,” Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant. Durant is averaging an

impressive 28.1 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game and an outstanding 50.3% field goal percentage.

Right across the court however has OKC’s very own point guard Russell Westbrook. Westbrook is averaging

25.8 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 10.9 assist per game this season. Now, here is someone who

used to play alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in OKC; Houston Rockets shooting guard James

Harden is currently averaging 28.9 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game and a not so great 37.6% field goal

percentage this season.

Then you have the big names, and I mean BIG names. LeBron James, we all know him, some of us love

him, some of us hate him. But there is one thing we all can agree on though; James has had a one of the big-

gest impacts on the league in a while. In fact, in my opinion the last player to have an impact this big is proba-

bly Michael Jordan. Yeah I said it, Jordan. I mean LeBron is the fastest player in history to reach 25,000 ca-

reer points. This season with the Cleveland Cavaliers however, he is averaging 25.3 points per game, 6.6 re-

bounds per game, and a 50% field goal percentage.

There is no doubt that LeBron has had a huge impact on the league, but last year we had a new impact

on the league. An impact that the NBA has never had before. The 6’ 3” point guard from the Golden State

Warriors, Stephen Curry. It seems as if this man very rarely misses a 3 point shot. Curry won the 2014-2015

NBA MVP after last season he averaged about 25 points a game and 49% field goal percentage. So far this

season Curry is averaging 31.9 points per game, 5.8 assist per game, and an amazing 52% field goal percent-

age.

So, since the stats have been brought to you we at the Maroon & White decided to take a little poll. The

Question; who is the best NBA player right now? James Harden, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Kevin

Durant, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry were the players that were on the poll. The Top three vote getters

may surprise people. OKC point Guard Russell Westbrook got 11.1% of the votes, which is not that bad con-

sidering his teammate Kevin Durant (2013-2014 NBA MVP) was also on the ballot.

Then you had LeBron James receiving 32% of the votes. Ol’ King James, I mean does it really shock

anyone that he would get that many? 2- time NBA Champion, 2-time NBA Finals MVP, 4-time NBA MVP,

2004 NBA Rookie of the Year, started in Cleveland then took his talents to South Beach and back to Cleve-

land again, and a 2-time NBA All-Star MVP. ”He makes everyone around him better and he can score at will,

just check his stats,” says Senior Jordan Cunningham and perhaps the biggest LeBron fan I know. “He’s an

amazing player with a gift from God.”

The leading vote getter, Stephen Curry, received 48% of the votes. Curry won last years MVP and is on

pace to win this years MVP as well (arguably). Senior Tommy Session says, “He won MVP last season and

continues to play like one this season.” Last season Curry and the rest of his talented Warrior squad beat LeB-

ron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the 2014-2015 NBA Championship.

So DHS, I will let the conversation continue. Who is the best player right now? But know this, Numbers Never

Lie.
