2. Innovations in Curricular design and Transaction.
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University introduced the choice based credit system
from the academic year 2008-2009 onwards, as per the recommendations of the Tamil
Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE). Faculty members in the Board of
studies of M.S. University attended the meetings of the standing committee and gave their
valuable ideas in designing the curriculum and framing the syllabus. Skill based subjects,
non-major electives and applied subjects - electives are included in the present syllabus.
All the skill - based subjects and non-major electives are designed in such a way
that they facilitate horizontal movement. For example, a student of B.A., English
Literature studies, Bee keeping offered by the Department of Advanced Zoology and Bio-
technology or students of B.Sc., Physics studies “Numerical Ability” offered by the
Department of Mathematics.
6
3. Inter disciplinary programme started
Social Value Education and Environmental Studies are given as Inter-disciplinary
subjects.
4. Examination reforms implemented
In the choice based credit system student’s performance is evaluated at the college
level by giving periodical class tests and 3 internal tests. According to the university
norms 25 marks are allotted for internal assessment and 75 marks for university
examination. 20 marks are allotted for internal test and 5 marks for assignment. Out of the
3 internal tests average of the best two are considered and taken for internal assessment.
Centralised model examination based on the university evaluation method is
followed. Answer scripts are valued and the progress reports are sent to the parents
of the students.
University conducts examination at the end of each semester.
For science students, practical examination will be conducted at the end of the
academic year.
For Social Value Education, Environmental Studies and for major subjects
compulsory project is given and marks are allotted for that.
For major subject project, group projects are given. They are evaluated by external
examiners by conducting viva voce.
