Dear Members:

It is the purpose of this report in summary to describethe activities carried out during the past year of 2010by the Round Table of the Commonwealth Countriesin the Dominican Republic.

It is the mission of The Roundtable to gather all thecompanies, chambers and diplomats who have rootsin the 54 countries which comprising the Commonwealthin the world.

The objective of the Round Table is to promote bilateralpolitical, economic and social relations between theDominican Republic and each of the Commonwealthcountries in all the six continents.

In 2010 advance was made in order to bring togetherthe bi-national chambers of the Commonwealth countriesand link them with the country's major businessassociations. For example, a collaboration agreementbetween the bi-national chambers of Great Britain,Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, India and South Africawas signed aiming to work more in coordination creatingsynergies for collective benefit.

Were formalized agreements with the DominicanAssociation of Exporters Inc, ADOEXPO to promoteexports, and with the Dominican Agribusiness BoardInc, JAD to facilitate the attraction of technology andequipment for the Dominican agricultural sector andidentify markets for agricultural products markets of thecountries of the Commonwealth.

For 2011 we intend to continue making agreementswith other institutions until covering all important areasof the Dominican economy. We also aim to bring to theRound Table other Commonwealth countries notrepresented at the moment in the Dominican Republic.

Finally I take this opportunity to thank our members forthe support they provided to the Round Table duringthe year which ended.

India Minister of Foreign Affairs visits Dominican Republic

Minister Shashi Tharoor visited the country for threedays and held meetings with President Leonel FernandezReyna and relevant national authorities. Several tradeand cooperat ion agreements were s igned.

Trade between Dominican Republic and India hasincreased over 300% since 2005.

At the moment there are 14 companies of Indiaestablished in the country in the textile areas, dataprocessing and information technology, trade of steeland metals areas, among others.

They also discussed issues on multilateral, particularlythose related to climate change, UN reform, drugtrafficking and international terrorism, the Foreign Ministrysaid in a press release.From left to right the Indian Ambassador, Mitra Vashist, Minister

Celebrating the Commonwealth Day signing and agreement betweenthe binational chambers of the Commonwealth

The bi-national chambers of commerce of theCommonwealth countries in the Dominican Republicsigned an agreement to jointly promote bilateral relationswith nations with growing trade and more than twobillion people.

The Commonwealth of 54 countries spread across sixcontinents have common origins, political systems andidiosyncrasies and currently controls 25% of world tradesaid the Honorary Consul of India, Fernando GonzálezNicolás to introduce the participants.

The representatives of the Chambers of Commerce ofGreat Britain, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, India andSouth Africa signed an agreement to concentrate theirefforts and those of its partners in the promotion ofbilateral relations between the Commonwealth countriesand the Dominican Republic. Trinidad-Tobago shipped to the Caribbean 93% of Imports

93% of imports from the Caribbean have their origin inTrinidad and Tobago, said Federico Reyes, newpresident of the Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad andTobago in the Dominican Republic

He explained that in addition to being the supplier ofLPG and natural gas to the Dominican Republic, theCaribbean country exports steel, beverages, cereals,

fertilizers, electrical equipment and several dozen ofproducts. Reyes provided the information on hisinauguration.

He is a founding member of the Trinidad and TobagoChamber of Commerce and is now president of“Terminaciones y Acabados", as well as SellantesNacional company that exporst mastics and siliconesin the Caribbean.

As to sales of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbeanmarket, Reyes said that "exports to the Caribbeanamount to RD $ 134 million in 2008. A 47% to Jamaicaand Trinidad and Tobago as a second destination, whichmakes between the two of them a total 59% of theDominican Republic's exports to the Caribbean."

The country sales among others, steel, cement, plastics,and fertilizers, indicating a strong complementarity ofexports and imports, and greater opportunities forcooperation between both nations.

As part of the actions to be implemented by the newBoard, Reyes reported its participation in the Fair Tradeand Investment Conference 2010 (Conference on Tradeand Investment), Port of Spain, from 21 to 23 May.

Gonzalez, who is also president of the Roundtable ofthe Commonwealth of Nations in the DominicanRepublic, welcomed the participants in the ceremonyheld in the National Business Council Tower andmentioned the convinience for the Dominican Republicto continue to improve its trade, social and politicalrelations with the countries of the Commonwealth.

"The investments of the countries of the Commonwealthare leading in the Dominican Republic and they havehad a very positive effect for the Dominicans," saidGonzalez, adding that companies in these nations haveshown interest in establishing operations in the countryand cited the power plant San Felipe de Puerto Plataas an example.

Scott Melling, representing the British AmbassadorSteven Fisher, read the message from Queen Elizabethto commemorate the day of the Commonwealth.

Mr. José María Cabral, legal advisor to the Round table,said that the agreement was an initiative to fosterrelations between the Dominican Republic and countriesof the Commonwealth and simultaneously a group ofbinational chambers of commerce, diplomats andmultinationals companies.

Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO) andthe Round Table of the Countries of the Commonwealthin the DR agreed to strengthen trade relations andmaximize business opportunities.

With that goal an agreement was signed to increasethe trade between the Dominican Republic and thecountries of the Commonwealth.

The pact was signed at the headquarters of ADOEXPOby Kai Schoenhals, President of the institution and thepresidents of the British Chambers of Commerce of theDominican Republic, Marcos Peña Rodríguez, and theCanadian Chamber, Eduardo Dominguez.

Also signed, the president of the Chambers ofCommerce of Trinidad and Tobago in the DominicanRepublic, Carlos Federico Reyes; for the Chamber ofCommerce of India, Eulogio Santaella, and South AfricaFriendship Association in the Dominican Republic,Norman De Castro.

Steven Fisher attended as witnesses, Ambassador ofthe United Kingdom of Great Britain and NorthernIreland, and Fernando Gonzalez Nicolas, president ofthe Roundtable for Countries of the Commonwealth inthe Dominican Republic.

Schoenhals said that the agreement seeks to combineefforts to identify opportunities for exports.

Investment in Commonwealth countries reached more than U$5 Billion

The investment of the Commonwealth countries in theDominican Republic is of a total of US$5.000 million,when including U.S. $ 3.000 million that will be investedin the Barrick Gold.

These resources are invested in key sectors of theeconomy, such as mining, led by Canada, the electricitysector, rum and bananas, by the British, the fuel, fromTrinidad and Tobago, and pharmaceuticals from India.

The information was provided by representatives of theBinational Chambers of Commerce of Canada, Britain,Trinidad and Tobago, India and South Africa, who signeda collaboration agreement with the objective of joiningefforts among partners with a view to enhance bilateralrelations among the 54 Commonwealth membercountries and the Dominican Republic.

"The investments of these countries have been verypositive for Dominicans," said Fernando González,president of the Round Table of the countries of theCommonwealth in the country, the organization thatcontrols 25% of world trade and has 2.1 billioninhabitants.

In the event, the British Consul delivered a messagefrom Queen Elizabeth II, where her Majesty urged itsmembers to "bear the potential of scientific expertisein a good educational system and social development."

British Chamber of Commerce elected new board

The British Chamber of Commerce in the DominicanRepublic elected its Board of Directors for 2010-2012during its Annual Ordinary General Assembly. Themeeting was held in the George Arzeno Brugal Hall, atthe National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP).

In the event, the new board was elected, were presentthe country's ambassador of Her Majesty's UnitedKingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, StevenM. Fisher, who in turn is honorary chairman of the

House, the British Consul, Richard Scott Melling, thecommercial attaché at the embassy, Leonora Dipp, andpast presidents and members of the entity.

Mr. Roberto Herrera read the report for the period 2008-2010. During his speech 2010 directory was circulated,which contains not only the members, but alsoinformation that is distributed in the promotional activitiescarried out by the Chamber, both in the DominicanRepublic and the United Kingdom. Herrera said: "Thisversion is the first in advertising information about theOlympic Games 2012, which will be based in London,this directory of the Chamber, includes generalinformation of the companies’ members.

Queen's Birthday

A toast to the health of Queen Elizabeth II

Diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom around theworld celebrate the "official birthday" of sovereign.

The 84th-year life of Queen Elizabeth II, born on April21 was celebrated at large by the UK's diplomaticmission in the country.

To this end Steven Fisher, the British Ambassadorhosted a reception at his residence in honor of HerMajesty. Amb Fisher was accompanied by the DominicanRepublic Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, José ManuelTrujolls, and diplomats, religious, businessmen andpoliticians.

Around 8:15 pm, Amb. Steven Fisher went to the podium,which was decorated with the flags of Britain and the

Dominican Republic and welcomed and thanked theattendants for their company in this celebration.

In discussing how to set up the celebration of theQueen's official birthday, Ambassador Steven Fishersaid: "The United Kingdom has the National Daycelebration around any date in history or politics; insteadthe UK has traditionally observed the birthday hissovereign as the National Day."

The diplomat went on to say: "Until the reign of KingEdward VII, the celebrations were held in eachmonarch's actual birthday, but since his birthday wasin November and looking for better weather for thecelebrations, created the concept of the Sovereign'sofficial birthday which would be held the second Saturdayof June. "

7Annual ReportContentEmbassy of Canada celebrates the 143th anniversary of itsindependence.

With the presence of a large group of prominentmembers of society, the Canadian Ambassador, ToddKuiack, accompanied by his wife Christine Climenhage,celebrated the 143 anniversary of the independenceof Canada.

To celebrate such an important date, was offered acocktail at the Museum of Modern Art, which wasanimated by a duo of piano and cello, that played theDominican and Canadian national anthems.

In his words, Kuiack Todd thanked the participants forthe welcome he received upon arrival in the countrynine months ago. He used the occasion to welcomethe new head of Commercial Affairs of the Embassy,Eric Gélinas, and had words of farewell the head of theOffice of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, NormBoucher, who finished his term in the country.

The diplomat expressed his satisfaction at seeing thegrowth of the Canadian Embassy in the DominicanRepublic in less than 10 years, it went from having asingle diplomat and five local staff and thirty ten localemployees.

He thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its supportin this process of change, which has also includedhaving a new location of the embassy, at AcropolisCenter, a new office in Punta Cana and, the creationof a section of immigration in the country.

The diplomat mentioned at the beginning of his speech,the corporate social responsibility as a core value forCanada.

Kuiack Todd said: "Canada since confederation hasdepended on the trade and as a result, clear accountskeep friends. The Dominican Republic shares manycore values with Canada."

"90 years with the Dominicans," is the name of the multimediacampaign with a chronological recounting important date for bothScotiabank and for the Dominicans, with pictures and testimonials.

It shows how from 1920 it started in the Dominican Republic and tothe date is the only international bank that has operated continuouslyin the country, achieving a success full performance, stability andconsistency to its customers.

Scotiabank has been part of the history of the Dominican Republicover the last 90, has witnessed the evolution of the country duringvarious crises and sociopolitical changes of significance, highlightedby being persistent and firm.

The campaign will be on TV, radio, newspapers, its branch networkand external distributed throughout the country.

JAD agree to promote Dominican agribusiness in the CommonwealthcountriesPromote local agricultural products in those markets

Binational chamber of the Commonwealth countries inthe Dominican Republic and the Dominican AgribusinessBoard (JAD) signed a partnership agreement which

seek to identify new opportunities for agriculture andagribusiness Dominican in the markets of 54 countriesof the Commonwealth

Similarly, the parties agreed to facilitate contacts withinstitutions in their countries that would contribute toplace the agricultural and agroindustrial Dominicansproducts in these countries, including business promotionagencies, and agribusiness guidance to those countries.

They will also undertake the organization of trademissions in conjunction with the respective markets ofthose countries and make available to the members ofeach entity on demand information, offers, exhibitionsand other activities that would promote agribusiness.

The agreement was signed at the headquarters of theJAD.

Farewell Cocktail British Consul

Scott Melling received a scroll in recognition of his workin promoting the Commonwealth in the DominicanRepublic.

Members of the Round Table of the Countries of theCommonwealth in the Dominican Republic offered afarewell cocktail to British Consul Scott Melling, who

finished their duties.

The Cocktail took place at the VIP room of Cava Alta,where Fernando Gonzalez Nicolas, president of theorganization, stated that Melling during his time helpedto promote the Commonwealth.

Roberto Herrera, treasurer of the Roundtableof the Countries of the Commonwealthin the Dominican Republic, gives a recognitionto the British Consul Scott Melling. Fernando González Nicolás, Federico Reyes, Steven Fisher, Eduardo Domínguez and FernandoRainieri joined him.

Round Table of the Commonwealth Countries organizeda meeting with representatives of the local private sectorwith the newly appointed Ambassador of India in theDominican Republic Deepak Bhojwani.

The meeting took place at the George Arzeno Brugalhall at the National Private Enterprise Council, Conep.

Ambassador Bhojwani offered his firm support to therenewed trade relations between India and theDominican Republic. He also pointed out the efforts torevive the India Chamber of Commerce in the DominicanRepublic. Relations between India and the DominicanRepublic have tr ipled since 2007 to date.

The meeting was attended by Executive Vice presidentof Conep, Francisco Castillo; the President of the IndiaChamber, Jay Nayar; the executive directors ofAssociations Free Zones, José Torres; rum producersrepresentative, Luís Castaños; foreign investment andpharmaceutical manufacturers Fernando Ferreiras,Salvador Demallistre and Dominican businessmen withconnections with India.

Scotiabank recognized for its services to export sector

Within the framework of the Annual XXIV Gala Dinnerof the Exporters, sponsored by the DominicanAssociation of Exporters, Inc. ADOEXPO, Scotiabankwas recognized for its services to the export sector, forits outstanding export business in 2010.

Scotiabank received this recognition for being a servicecompany that has systems and innovative programsthat provide added value to export management,facilitating the export process and thereby fostering thedevelopment of the sector. Besides being an institutionthat has supported the initiatives of the association toparticipate together in training and export promotion.

Elis Perez, Vice President of Commercial Banking andCorporate was given a recognition by FernandoGonzález Nicolás and Samuel Conde, members of theBoard of Directors ADOEXPO and Mr. Carlos Castillo,Senator of Ocoa province.

The activity gathered important companies in the exportsector and in the same, were also recognized othercompanies, such as fertilizers Santo Domingo, Rubberand Plastics C. by A Baltimore Dominicana, C. by A.among others.
