Colleagues: I am delighted to share with you the many accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff and administrators recorded during the 2012-2013 academic year. We once again demonstrated our excellence in learning, especially in our role of facilitating student learning and student success. The Chico Experience endures! Our students have won national and international competitions—Western States Collegiate Sales Competition; AGC Outstanding Student Chapter Contest; ‘Number One School in the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC), a screening of “California Indian Voices,’ and Grand Prize in the 2012 WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge—just to mention a few. Our faculty and staff, similarly, were recognized regionally and nationally for innovative teaching, research and creative and original scholarship. These accomplishments are all the more remarkable given the challenging financial conundrum we have found ourselves in these past years. Taken together, they are a tribute to all members of our academic community who continue to be committed to learning in general and to the learning and success of our students in particular. For the 2013-2014 academic year, I am launching a series of ‘creating new possibilities’ conversations that have the power to transform our community and inspire us all. I want us to focus on our future through an engagement process that acknowledges our strengths, creates new possibilities, invests in the well-being of the whole, and reclaims that special sense of place and community that so characterizes Chico State. I invite each of you to help co-create our future.

Belle W.Y.Wei Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
