A Note From the Director:
I am excited to share our 2O13-14 annual report with you. I believe this report will provide a small glimpse into the many opportunities Physical Education and Recreation provides to the members of the UO community. Within the following pages, you will see evidence of the impact that making healthy lifestyle choices is having on students, faculty, staff, and even the surrounding community. The 2O13-14 academic year was another step in the transformation of our department as we seek to provide the best programs, classes, facilities and equipment every time we engage with our clients. We completed the development of our new strategic plan which will provide the direction for our growth over the next five years. We also concluded a review of our organizational structure and have designed a system where we believe every employee is now positioned to work at peak efficiency. We also completed the first known sustainability audit of a campus recreation department in the United States, which provided valuable insight into our efforts to be environmentally conscious, fiscally responsible, and socially just in how we conduct ourselves in the work we do.Of course, we continued to move towards completion of the $5O million dollar SRC expansion project and we are excited that the project is both on budget and on time! I am especially proud that despite the significant challenges of working around an active construction site, the staff has been able to continue to offer high-quality activities and facilities with minimal interruptions of services. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank each of you for your patience and understanding as we move this project to completion. These are exciting times for the department, the Division of Student Life, and the university! We hope that the information we are sharing in this annual report will inspire you to continue or encourage you to begin your pursuit of Active, Balanced Lives!
Sincerely,R. Kevin Marbury, Ph.D.Director, Department of Physical Education and Recreation
