CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

It has been widely understood that class room transaction in academic subjects alone cannot

foster development in all areas or help to develop life skills.

We take care to inculcate qualities such as Self Esteem, Positive Attitude and Life Skills of

creative and Critical Thinking by involving and giving our students various opportunities in

Inter/ Intra School Competitions.

The school participated in numerous inter school /open competitions during the year and won

prizes galore. Some of the outstanding achievements are given below :

Arya Pinaki (VIII) and Vinamr Bajaj (VIII) made six NEO observations as a part of All

India Asteroid Search Campaign, 2014 announced by SPACE on 14 May 2014 in

collaboration with International Astronomical Search Collaboration (USA).

Four children along with the Astronomy Club Coordinator attended the workshop on

‘The Sally Ride Earth KAM Project’, on 15 July 2014 at Amity International School,

Vasundhara. It is a NASA sponsored educational programme that enables children to

photograph and examine Earth from a different perspective of space.

Ten children along with the Astronomy Club Coordinator attended a workshop on

SUPERMOON WATCH at the SPACE Head Office in Janakpuri on 04 August, 2014 and

were later trained on the 76mm Reflector Telescope to view objects. The Super Moon

Watch was planned in the school premises for the students , parents and teachers on 09 Aug

’14, but it had to be called off due to inclement weather conditions. Nevertheless, a power

point presentation on the Supermoon was uploaded in SMART class and shown to the

students on 09 Aug ’14.

A session on ‘Seasons’ was conducted on 20 Sep ’14 wherein Tilt & Orbit of the Earth,

understanding of seasons and their causes, astronomical significance of seasons in our life

and changes observed in the night sky during different seasons was discussed.

Project Paridhi, a flagship project of SPACE to popularize hands on Science was

conducted in the school premises on 23 Sep ’14. Under this project, one takes measurements

of the shadows made by the Sun to measure the circumference of Earth as done 2300

years back by astronomer Eratosthenes. The Astronomy Club members of the school,

who had been trained by the staff of SPACE, organized the event.

Project Paridhi, was also conducted by SPACE on Vernal equinox; 21 March 2015 at

Barapullah (Sundial). The students measured the circumference of the earth using the

Eratosthenes method.

Under the aegis of SPACE, the Astronomy Club celebrated the largest public space

event-World Space Week from 04 to 15 Oct 2014 with the theme ‘Global Navigation,

Satellite Systems’. Various activities like Online Painting Competition, Model Making,

Face Painting, Screening of Movie on Space and Astronomy, were organized in the school.

The students of Class XI showcased the presentation on the ‘Journey of Mangalyan’ to all the

students.

The following sessions of the Astronomy Club in association with SPACE were also held.
