A message to our CAC Community

1

Dear Friends & Colleagues: CAC’s 70th year is quickly drawing to a close. It has been a wonderful privilege to complete a full year of service at my alma mater and, since August 2015, introduce Sarah Shalash to the CAC community in her role as Stewardship and Alumni Relations Officer.

The Office of Alumni & Community Relations and Development fosters lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, students, faculty and friends, strengthening their connections with CAC by helping them stay informed, involved and invested in their CAC passions. Our team creates and supports alumni and campus/community events that include in-person and digital engagement opportunities. We create fundraising strategies, in partnership with CAC and The Cairo American College Foundation to help increase donor participation and philanthropic support of CAC.

This report is designed to share some of the highlights from CAC and our office during 2015-2016.

Together, this past year we have: Celebrated our 70-year history and our alumni impacting the world. Deep history. Rich memories. Decades of impact. CAC alumni are making their mark in Egypt, in the region and around the world: leading businesses, affecting politics, researching the environment, empowering the underprivileged, and so much more! CAC is honored to be “home” for alumni around the globe. Celebrating our 70th anniversary together made this year very special.

Discovered new and vibrant ways to engage the local community. As a direct result of CAC’s Strategic Plan to cultivate diversity and interconnectedness in our community, we were receptive to new ways to build community this past year. Not many people can say they had the chance to spend time interacting with 12 top-teir NFL players. Our CAC family was honored to host the American Football Without Barriers 3-day camp this spring. Through renewed partnerships with local organizations and agencies, and via new relationships with associations and corporations, we will continue to seek ways to network in, connect, and enrich our community.

Shared our time, talents and resources through fundraising activities on campus. Passion and compassion are two words defining and reshaping our community. Our students are leading the way through civic engagement by: volunteering to help Syrian refugee children, offering their skills to tutor or train the next generation, supporting the better treatment of animals and preserving our environment, as well as giving financially to support the sick, homeless, and displaced in our region.

Investing in a shared future On a global scale, education and learning are being reshaped through programs and spaces; and civic engagement is evolving. The educational landscape in Egypt is changing too. Even with our rich history at CAC, standing still is not an option. We need to innovate and invest in the future we share through CAC.

CAC has made and continues to make major investments in facility upgrades and improvements. The impact of these changes is readily apparent to any returning visitors to campus. Plans to start renovating our high school this summer are already underway. High school teachers and students are being temporarily housed in the middle school and elementary school. High school teachers jokingly say they refuse to return to the dark, old high school. We believe the major renovation and shift to collaborative, open learning spaces in the high school will excite faculty and draw them back to their upgraded and renewed home in 18 months.

Investing in the future of CAC is a community-wide responsibility that will only achieve its potential when the entire school is engaged in the effort. As you engage – through volunteering time, providing expertise and giving financially – you lead the way, create solutions and help CAC dream and innovate.

We are listening Our office cares deeply about CAC and the success of CAC students. This passion comes through in every conversation. Our doors remain open and we want to hear from you. Watch for a targeted survey in June to help us understand more specifically how you plan to engage with CAC.

Finally, we would like to say thank you to all who have welcomed and worked with our office during this past year. We have heard what we are doing well and we know there are areas to improve. We appreciate the feedback. The goals of this office are to serve alongside you to propel CAC to new heights of innovation in education and help CAC maintain its competitive edge in the educational marketplace. Your input is vitally important and it will translate into action as we work to inspire students to learn, explore, and have fun.

Respectfully,

Byron Skaggs Sarah Shalash Director Stewardship and Alumni Relations Officer
