Arutchelvar Ayya Dr. N. Mahalingam, Founder

Chairman of Kumaraguru College of Technology

strived to live a life of values and ideas with purpose

and vision to impact the world. The enigmatic life

merged into the light on October 2, 2014, the

birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Until the last

moment, Ayya was doing what he believed and

envisioned talking about Saint Vallalar’s philosophy.

Throughout his life, Ayya carried the twin torches of

Gandhian values and Vallalar’s way of life. It is then

in the divine grace that he merged into eternal light

on the day of Gandhi Jayanthi.

Your vision. Our path.

A TRIBUTE TO OUR FOUNDER DR. N. MAHALINGAM

THE CHAIRMAN on Excellence

Kumaraguru College of Technology is the brain child of our founder Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam. The institution is three decades old and has earned a reputation for itself. There is a good demand for admissions and equally many leading companies in the core and service sectors prefer to absorb our candidates in their organisations. This apart, the institution enjoys tremendous goodwill among the general public and is rated among the best institutions in our state of Tamil Nadu, South India.

However, we are not resting on our laurels. We are conscious of the challenges ahead and we have a commitment to make Kumaraguru College of Technology the number one institution not only in this region but in the nation as well. All this requires the support and goodwill of our alumni who are down spread all over the world and number around 20,000.

Initiatives are being taken to step up the activities and ensure employability of our candidates. The outcome based education as stipulated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council is now being introduced and in the course of time, our students will match global standards.

The Indian Republic is now close to seven decades. Phenomenal progress has been done

in this period. However many challenges continue to confront the nation.

The major advantage for India today is the demographic profile. Almost 65% of our population are in the age group of 22-30 years. Much depends on our ability to empower them through education to emerge as enlightened citizens who will enrich the nation.

Along with the academic programmes, efforts have been taken to develop their personality to make them holistic in nature, sensitive to social needs.

The management, its 400 plus faculty ably supported by a similar number of supporting staff are engaged in transforming Kumaraguru College of Technology into an institution of excellence, true to the vision of our founder.

Dr. B.K. KRISHNARAJ VANAVARAYAR Chairman

THE CORRESPONDENT on Staying Relevant in a Changing World

The place of education in the traditional Indian context has always been accorded the highest pedestal. Combined with cultural traditions such as family values, faith and belief systems and commerce, education defines individual roles and their place in shaping larger society. The purpose of education is therefore, not limited to providing security or success; it is to ensure that character and principles are upheld and followed at all times.

‘Character is life’ defines the larger purpose of Kumaraguru College of Technology. 30 years ago, Founder Chairman Dr. N. Mahalingam envisioned an institution that would retain this fundamental truth in its pursuit of excellence. Dr. K. Arumugam, one of the principal architects of the institution, transformed the vision of Dr. N. Mahalingam and helped build the edifice on which all growth has followed.

As inheritors of this legacy, we now have to work very hard to translate the vision and uphold all the values that KCT stands for. In today’s rapidly homogenising world, the lines that define each of the fundamental principles are steadily blurring. Disruptive changes threaten to undermine the true purpose of education—to remain relevant to changing contexts, to empower individual thought and impact collective consciousness.

We have been witness to the dynamics of change in businesses as well. Family enterprises like ours have had to constantly reinvent ourselves amidst the onslaught of larger players. The scenario for larger businesses is no different with the increasing coming together of geographical boundaries and markets, businesses are now delving deeper into identifying their DNA in order to differentiate themselves.

Higher education must take these challenges into account. In order to stay relevant to the industry scenario, institutions that do not foresee where their current path will take them are in grave danger.

If we hope to play a dominant role in the global economy through digital, manufacturing or commercial revolutions, we must first get back to the drawing board and relook the way we have been looking at higher education.

For KCT, this means building our unique footprint, using this strong foundation of ‘character’ to stand up and stand apart.

THE JOINT CORRESPONDENT ON REALIZING THE AMAZING POTENTIAL

The world today is in an extraordinary phase of its existence. Advancements that the human race has made in science and technology in communication, manufacturing, materials, healthcare, transport and construction are truly remarkable.

Much of this in the last two centuries was due to the commitment and perseverance with which visionary academic institutions pursued the quest to help the progress of mankind. The academic study and research by the Staff and Students in these citadels of knowledge and wisdom have been legendary world over.

The world today certainly has progressed but the striking fact seems to be the regression of aspects like environment and the reality of poverty and lack of opportunity to progress for millions.

I see an amazing potential for the multitude of institutions globally to entrench themselves into finding ways to make the planet and its inhabitants exist well.

India is in a phase where it has crossed many strides and many more harsh realities exist in this developing nation.

Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) since 1984 has been in the pursuit of impact and excellence. Today the institution with its 7000 staff and students are exploring ways to enhance their

knowledge and pursue research for the benefit of society and progress of the economy.

The potential for India and its youth are truly limitless. The developed world looks at India as a market and the developing world looks at it as a solution. KCT built on the foundation of its visionary founder is working to tap on this potential.

KCT is an institution that looks at the holistic development of an individual and the college offers a plenty of scope for enhancement and evolution of the mind, body and spirit. “Character is life” is the motto of the institution.

Moving towards the future, KCT dedicates itself to become an institution of excellence and impact. It would be done with its resources, capabilities and partnerships with businesses, institutions and the state. Global partnerships remain an important aspect as the potential is being built on.

Realizing the potential within each individual along with the strengths that exist in the ecosystem will be the aspiration for the next decade.

More than 20,000 Alumni of KCT are contributing to the development, progress of the societies across the world. KCT as always, and will be emphasizing its motto “Character is life”.

This is also the only institution in this country where Mahatma Gandhi Study Centre and Swami Vivekananda Study Centre are established. Both the centres are part of curriculum of every student. The student take active part in character building and nation building. There are many opportunities for the students and faculties to immerse and develop our nation through multi various activities. The emphasis, thus is on the nation building.

The east Kore, being located near the MVB, has Namma cafe and Kovai Giftshop being run in it. With easy accsess for hostellers and students and staffs, it has made quiet an impact already.

K’s cafe has been set up for the convinience of hostellers. Since its opened from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM, it saves them the time to have a quick crunch with the variety in the menu.

KORE - At the heart of any institution is its people. And KORE is the point where people, students, faculty, staff and guests come together to exchange notes, indulge in copious amounts of coffee and cakes, snack, lunch and breakfast through the day. With two large screens displaying interesting bits of news and events from around the world, and the soft background of music, KORE has become just what we intended it to be the core of KCT.
