Resident and volunteer, Donna Wise and Director of Vitality and Well-being, Kelly Stranburg, receive the
2016 Averill C. Harkey Award of Excellence.
Dear Friends,
It is our pleasure to present to you the 2016 Sharon Towers’ Annual Report We hope you enjoy reading about the progress our community has made during this past year
After many months of construction, Magnolia Villa I was completed at year end with our first residents moving into their new home in early January 2017 The response from our new residents and visitors on this new style of apartment living has been very positive Construction of our second Magnolia Villa began in May and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2018
We have been delighted to see an increase in the number of individuals from the greater community requesting Sharon Towers for their short-term Medicare stay needs We are proud to report that Sharon Towers’ skilled rehabilitation unit continued to maintain its 5 star rating (the top rating) with the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services in 2016
Our strategic plan calls for Sharon Towers to provide the best in dementia care programming for its residents We are pleased to report that Sharon Towers achieved its goal of becoming Comfort Matters accredited in October The Comfort Matters program is a resident centered program for dementia residents with the comfort of residents, families, and team members as its main objective To achieve accreditation, our team had to provide a calm environment while working to identify resident behaviors that indicated pain, or some type of discomfort All team members are empowered to develop and share approaches to address that discomfort Residents personal routines are honored, dementia friendly foods are provided, and the entire team learned and demonstrated the many competencies necessary to provide the most individualized care for our residents with dementia
Our mission to provide care and services to individuals who cannot afford to move into Sharon Towers or who have outlived their financial resources continues Sharon Towers provided $888,252 in financial assistance in 2016 This amount is in addition to the $10 1 million dollars in monthly service fee assistance Sharon Towers has provided since its inception We are proud of this history and greatly
appreciate the generosity of our donors who have made this commitment to those less fortunate possible
Thank you all for your continued interest and support of our community

You can give a specific amount of money or an item such as stock, property, jewelry or other items of value
You can donate a percentage of your estate

For many people, leaving a bequest is a chance to give more than they could imagine during their lifetime, and
to express deeply-held values in a lasting way. Making a will is a wonderful opportunity to give something back.
Your will is, after all, not only a financial document but a way of ensuring that the values you live by, live on.

For the past 47 years, Sharon Towers has been guided by a mission that promotes a nurturing environment that fosters joy,
purpose and well-being in those who live, work or visit here Our early leaders, laying the groundwork for this environment,
adopted a caring and loving mindset that continues today They emphasized the importance of investing in others and taking
care of those in the community; especially those with financial need The Residents’ Assistance Program is one way we continue
to promote this mindset and carry out our mission
Gifts made annually to Sharon Towers and the Residents’ Assistance Fund allow us to provide financial support to those in need
Residents and prospective residents receive support in the way of waived Entrance Fees or, most commonly, monthly service fee
assistance Since Sharon Towers opened, one hundred forty-two residents have received $11 1 million in monthly assistance
In addition, $5 7 million in entrance fees have been waived for two hundred twenty-two individuals In 2016, twenty-one
individuals received assistance totaling $888,252 These recipients, who remain anonymous, are friends and neighbors who,
thanks to your generosity, have the security of knowing that they are well cared for
Sharon Towers is fortunate to have the support of churches, foundations and individuals, like you, who support us with your
in-kind or monetary gifts for projects, programs and services at Sharon Towers, including the Residents’ Assistance Program
These gifts each year ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our residents and our community In 2016, we received
$1,256,573, with $256,622 designated to the Residents’
Assistance Program
We thank you, our donors, for helping us to continue our
mission and invest in the lives of those in our community
Sharon Towers’ history and success is thanks to you and
your involvement We are blessed by your continued
support, friendship and compassion

The Magnolia Villa, Sharon Towers’ newest Independent living accommodation, offers residents a luxurious new home with a carefree lifestyle.
The holidays are filled with excitement and anticipation as we wait to open presents
wrapped so neatly under the Christmas tree At Sharon Towers, 2016 was filled with a
similar excitement and anticipation as Board members, team members, family members and
residents awaited the completion of our first Magnolia Villa By the end of 2016, boxes were
packed, moving trucks were idling and Villa residents were ready to make Sharon Towers
their permanent home On January 4, 2017, the first of twenty-five new Villa residents
moved in
As residents began to move into Magnolia Villa I, excitement was building next door with
bulldozers ready to start construction on Magnolia Villa II The Villas are an extension of
Sharon Towers’ strategic plan to provide services, programming and living accommodations
that serve our residents and the older population of Charlotte The Villas are the first of
many expansions, outlined in Sharon Towers Master Campus Plan, planned for the future
The Villas are comprised of eighteen independent living apartments on three floors Homes
range from 1,365 to 1,940 square feet with convenient and secure under-building parking
Residents enjoy open floor plans with spacious rooms, luxury finishes, plenty of storage and
even shuttle service
Villa II is selling fast, with over a third of the apartments reserved by the end of 2016
At this rate, we anticipate all eighteen apartments will be spoken for soon Contact the
Marketing Department at 704-556-3231 for more information about the Villas or residency
