PREFACE BY THE PRESIDENT

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most

Merciful

All praises be to Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala, the Lord of the universe, Master of the

day of judgement. To Allah is our return.

Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad Sallahu alaihi

wasallam, his family and his companions.

We pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for our beloved marhoum Principal Huzoor Dr

Maulana AS Mohammed Abdur Rahim Saheb (RA), all our trustees and well wishers

who passed away and left behind this legacy. May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala accept

all their righteous deeds and give us the ability to carry on this good cause wuth

upmost sincerity.

Alhamdulillah by the grace and mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and with the

tremendous support from our trustees, staff, CVD members, musallis and community

we have been able to refurbish and reopen the Al miraj banqueting suite in March

2018 without waiting for the insurance payment. We managed to refurbish Block C of

the main school building which also cost us approximately £115,000.00; this will

enable us to accommodate another extra 50+ students. We have also managed to

refurbish the Darul Uloom Birmingham Jamia section with accommodation facilities

for approximately 15 students. We have started the renovation work on the Modular

buildings (Porta kabin) which should finish in November 2018, this will allow us to

transfer the whole school section away from Block A so that we can use Block A for

the Jamia section and sisters facilities from next year Inshaa Allah.

To help in executing the vision of JMIC, last year we appointed a full-time Principal,

Dr Abul Kalam Azad to oversee the Centre operations and Darul Uloom in particular.

His contract expired on 31st August 2018 and the Council of Management decided

not to renew his contract.

P a g e 6 o f 4 8

With the hard work of our Head Teacher, all of our teachers and our students, Darul

Uloom Islamic High School has progressed further and although the overall

examination structure has been changed we achieved an overall good result in our

2018 GCSE exams.

We have successfully started weekend madrasa for children. Our youth tarbiyah

programme has also increased from the previous years. We have also started adult

courses in the weekends as well as weekdays. Inshaa Allah we are in the process of

starting online courses and courses for women very soon.

I thank Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and pray that He accepts all our righteous deeds

and forgives all our shortcomings. May He subhanahu wa ta’ala remove all the

obstacles and hardship from our paths ahead and enable us to continue working

together with unity and brotherhood.

Ma’assalam

MANAGEMENT REPORT OVERVIEW FOR 2017/18

Alhamdulillah, under the existing council of management, Jami Mosque & Islamic

Centre has passed another challenging and successful year.

Despite economic difficulties we have started renovation work in block C; we are in

the process of relocating the head teacher’s office. After completing the renovation

work we will be able to accommodate 50 students, on top of that we are also working

to prepare the porta cabin (Modular Building), when we have completed the

renovation work of the cabin, we will be able to accommodate another 50 students in

two class rooms. At the Jamia section we are in the process of providing

accommodation services for the students.

Last year we appointed Dr Abul Kalam Azad as the Principal of the centre. Due to

circumstances we couldn’t extend his job contract.

By the help of almighty Allah جل جلاله JMIC Evening Maktab has transformed its journey

as Raheem Academy. We have started several programmes under Raheem

Academy such as Saturday school for children, Quran class on Sunday for adults,

weekday Quran and Arabic language classes for adults. We are in the process of

starting online courses, InshaAllah we will be able to start those very soon.

Due to the collapse of suspended ceiling at Al Miraj on 20th July 2017, Al Miraj Social

Enterprise was closed for around 8 months. Alhamdulillah with the efforts of

everyone involved, we have managed to reopen Al Miraj on 24th March 2018. We

had to go through extraneous difficulties but by the grace of almighty Allah جل جلاله Al

Miraj has been renovated, up and running again.

Overall, the Centre has not had any meaningful changes in the services or activities

it provides the local community during this year.

Alhamdullilah, we believe this is a positive result given that this is the 2nd consecutive

year the existing Council of Management has been overseeing the Centre, without

our marhoom Principal Huzur Sahib’s direction. As such, the balance of this report

details these activities and services of the past year, highlighting areas that the

Centre did good as well as recognising those areas that need further improvements.

Masjid and ‘ibadah Facilities and Services

Congregational Prayers: Daily Prayers, Jumu’ah and Eid Prayers

For the performance of salaah, JMIC is open to the public, each and every

day of the year. The Masjid doors are open from early morning Fajr prayers

(dawn) and are open until just after Isha prayer (late night) for both jama’ah

and personal prayers.

The five daily Salaah are conducted in congregation where the average

attendance over the last year has been broadly similar to the previous couple

of years, estimated at approximately 400 people at each prayer, increasing to

1,200 to 2,000 during the Jumu’ah prayer on Fridays (depending on holiday

periods).

P a g e 10 o f 4 8

As has been our tradition since 2015, Eid prayers are held in the open-air

(Darul Uloom playgrounds) whenever weather permits. Due to GCSE

examinations we couldn’t arrange Eid ul Fitr prayers in the open air as it

would have been a distraction for students during their GCSE examinations.

As an alternative we have organised 5 Jamaats inside our mosque.

Alhamdulillah, Eid al Adha Jamaat were held outdoors this year like.

Attendance at the Eid prayers is estimated to be between 6,000 and 8,000

people each Eid.

Over the years, the number of attendees of congregational prayer has grown

to the current levels such the Centre has reached full capacity, especially for

Jumu’ah and eid prayers. The mosque’s infrastructure is barely able to cope

with the demand at such levels. For the most part, parking has been

addressed by utilising the Al-Miraj car park during peak times. However, other

areas such as wudhu facilities have been facing difficulties, not withstanding

constant renovations and enhancements. The shortage of prayer space

during peak periods is also well known and an ongoing challenge.

Laylatul Barat (Laylatun Nisf e Min Sha’ban) & Laylatul Qadr

A special programme has been held during the nights to encourage people to

keep themselves busy with Ibaadah and getting closer to Allah (SWT). The

programme consisted of Darsul Quran, Darsul Hadith, speeches in different

languages, and Halqah-e-Dhikr and Akhiri Du’aa. As it has traditionally done

each year, the centre has not arranged any transportation ie minibus or coach

due to the lack of interest from the public to use the transport, alternatively we

had several cars ready as a backup if anyone wish to do the Ziarah of

Quboor. Additionally food was provided during suhoor for those intending fast

the following day for the nisfe Sha’ban programme. For the laylatul Qadr

programme both iftaar and suhoor were provided as per the Centre’s normal

practice.

Ramadhan Provisions

The holy month of Ramadhan is undoubtedly the most vivacious, energetic

and vibrant month for the entire Muslim world and activities of JMIC are at

their peak during this month. During this blessed month the Centre provides a

P a g e 11 o f 4 8

range of additional services and provisions. A programme of talks and halqah-

e-dhikr was held during 15th Shaban and 27th Ramadhan, which were both

well attended. Tarawih prayers were held each night after Isha prayers during

Ramadhan and an additional late night Tarawih prayer was also held for those

who work till late hours. Daily Iftar was also provided for people to break their

fast.

This year, we catered for 27 Mut’takifeen who stayed in the mosque for the

last 10 nights of Ramadhan, which was significantly more than the 16 last

year. It is recognised that the trend appears to be somewhat on an upwards

direction from the previous year. To facilitate the increased number of

Mu’takifeen we provided extra cabin this year.

Prayer Timetables

The JMIC continued to distribute its prayer timetables throughout the

Midlands and beyond. As with previous years; almost 200 addresses

nationwide have the JMICs timetables directly delivered to them as a part of

the Mosque’s munificence.

Approximately 8,000 timetables are printed each month, with the option to

print supplementary ones after if necessary. The timetable is also available to

view online in our website.

Broadcast Service

Our scanner service continued this year providing broadcasts of the regular

prayers as well as all the public programmes held at the Centre.

P a g e 12 o f 4 8

The current reception range for our scanner service is a 15 mile radius from

the Centre. Whilst the plan is there to move to provide an “internet radio”

based service, which will allow reception anywhere in the world where internet

is available, this has not been progressed this year, primarily due to resource

constraints.

The number of scanners sold by the Centre this year dropped to 23.

Tableegh Jamaah Activity

The Centre continued to permit the Tableegh Jamaat to use the Centre for

their regular visits from all over the UK and abroad, for 3-4 days at a time. It

provided overall support to the delegates such that they can maximise their

spiritual gains whilst staying at the Centre.

Religious Issues & Fatawaa

JMIC continuously receives queries over the phone and in person from the

community on fatawaa and other relevant religious issues, given its policy of

open access to comprehensive knowledge from its scholars and the Shura

board. Our scholars have worked, and are working, collectively to assist the

community in fulfilling the virtues and obligations of our deen. Alhamdulillah,

our highly qualified Imams possess the information and knowledge to answer

the majority of questions and issues posed. If and when a second opinion is

required, senior Imams and shura board are always available.

P a g e 13 o f 4 8

Marriage Services

Allah جل جلاله created men and women as company for one another, and so that

they can become parents and live in peace and calmness according to the

commandments of Allah Almighty. The centre has been providing both Islamic

Nikah and Civil Marriages for a long time. As such, the marriage services

provided by the Centre are able to combine both the Civil marriage

registration and the Islamic Nikah in one location. This combined with our

banqueting hall in the Al-Miraj Social Enterprise Project provides a ‘one-stop-

shop’ for weddings, considerably easing the logistics burdens often

encountered during weddings within the community.

This year, we performed 12 Islamic Nikah ceremonies, significant increased

from the 7 such ceremonies carried out last year. In addition there were 9 civil

marriage registrations.

Family Counselling & pastoral services

We live in a complex, diverse, and often hectic society and to deal with this

complex situation individual face difficult situation in personal and family life.

Under these circumstances, JMIC is providing family counselling, guidance

P a g e 14 o f 4 8

and support, especially in cases of marital, particularly when it is taken from

the perspective of shari’ah.

For families or couples who are facing hardship, our team provides unbiased

counselling and guidance to help them overcome and reconcile their

difficulties. With the inclusion of both spiritual and emotional support, families

are offered holistic counselling in an extremely sympathetic and

understanding manner. Our aim is to help couples to overcome their hurdles

and thus maintain a happy married life.

Inevitably however, there are certain cases in which the only feasible

resolution for the benefit of the couple is divorce. The Centre provides advice

and support to couples by applying the laws of shari’ah in order to ensure that

any outcomes are resolved with fairness and impartiality. In any case,

whether it is hurdles in a marriage or post-marital issues, the Family Guidance

team ensures that all relevant evidence from both sides is collated as

documentary, and then forwarded to the Board of Ulema for an authoritative,

and neutral, shari’ah based judgement.

The Centre has been commended within the local community for its family

services, and in particular the way it keeps the trust and confidence of the

people that it helps.

Funeral Services

The funeral service is one of the most important of services we provide, at the

most difficult of times for the deceased’s family. The services related to

funeral we provide:

Body collection from home/ hospital (by third party)

Ghusl (washing facility with modern equipment)

Body preservation in the funeral parlour

Janazah (funeral) prayer arrangements

Visiting & Tilawat facilities

Arrangement for sending body abroad or local burial

Sending an Imam to the cemetery for Dua for the deceased

P a g e 15 o f 4 8

Our sister volunteers are also regularly participating in bathing of deceased

females. This is a valuable contribution which they are making, giving

assistance whenever a funeral for a deceased female takes place without

desire for any materialistic gain. Once again may Allah ruo evreserp yam جل جلاله

sisters.

This year, the funeral department provided its services to 27 male, 19 female

and 10 children. Such services again remind us that that death has no age or

gender when it arrives. Indeed, from Allah we came and to Him is our return.

“New Muslim” Project

Alhamdulillah this year there were five shahadah witnessed at the Centre,

compared to no shahadah last year.

This is an important project for the Centre, not just to support new Muslims,

but also the creating awareness of true Islam, particular given the

Islamophobia in society today. As such, it is an area that the Centre

recognises it needs to try harder in the coming years.

Muslim Youth Network (MYN)

Muslim Youth Network (MYN) is a project to help the youth in the community

in understanding their identity, living in a multi-cultural society, and developing

their Islamic character, whilst having fun and interacting with others of their

age group. By the grace of almighty Allah, this year MYN has continued its

P a g e 16 o f 4 8

works in this regard. Of particular note is the “living in society” programmes

they were involved in, such as the street cleaning campaign and the inter-faith

dialogue and understanding gatherings, as well as the citizenship and British

values programmes.

The group holds weekly sessions where youths of all ages and backgrounds

are invited to participate. In addition, during the summer holidays, a Seerah

competition was organised in which approximately 100 youth took part and

participated. As well as providing a platform for enjoyment, such programmes

help develop the moral and spiritual aspects of the youths involved.

Women’s Group

Amongst other activities, this year the Women’s Group organised a Charity

Bazaar to raise funds for Da'wah work and for JMIC itself. In addition, sisters’

participation has been expanding continuously with the efforts of the existing

members. Sisters take a full and active part in JMIC events.

As part of its regular programmes, the Women’s Group holds three weekly

circles; one for Bengali speaking sisters, one for English speaking sisters and

the third for younger age groups.

English speaking sisters group have done some outreach work with different

faiths. This year, they took some of the youth to visit St John’s Church in

Sparkhill as well as the Gudwara in Small Heath, Waverley road. In

reciprocation, the sisters group invited people of different faiths for tea parties,

coffee mornings and Eid gatherings.

The Women’s Group is now expanding its Da'wah work to Hall Green,

Sparkbrook, Yardley, Hodge Hill and Bordesely Green inshaa Allah.

They are also helping JMIC both with financial support and as well as helping

with ghusl for deceased female bodies.

For the coming year, the Group is looking to continue its volunteer activities in

support of the Centre’s major events, in particularly by helping women and

children attendees. As is the case with most such volunteer groups, they do

P a g e 17 o f 4 8

are short of people and are actively looking at how to increase their

resources.

Main Contact: Ferdous Ara

Women’s Ghusl in charge: Syeda Imrana Hasin

Men’s Dawah Group

Alhamdulillah, JMIC Dawah Wing have been continuously dedicating their

time, money and effort to help support the work and programmes of JMIC.

The group has been able to provide a range of service to the Musalli as well

as providing logistic and co-ordination support to the CVD, YMO and

Women’s group. They have ensured sufficient manpower to undertake pot

collection, people and car park management during jumah, Eid and other

major events organised by JMIC.

They have organised dawah circle every Sunday for men which includes

Tafseer, Quaran Class, and Islamic History. They also organised night

programme on a regular basis. This year, approximately 100 people from

amongs the Musallis and Dawah wing participated in the night programme.

Scholars from JMIC and different institution have been invited to deliver key

note speeches.

Charitable Services for External Organisations

The Centre continued to provide access to external charities from across the

world to raise funds for humanitarian and welfare projects every Sunday in the

Jami Mosque, and every night after taraweeh prayer during the month of

Ramadan.

This year due to the overwhelming applications for the month of Ramadan we

had to facilitate collection time slots after the afternoon prayers (Zuhr) and

P a g e 18 o f 4 8

after Taraweeh prayers. The number of organisations that were allocated time

slots for collection was 51.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Currently the Centre focuses on three areas of education:

i. Evening (or after-school) Maktab classes run by JMIC Raheem

Academy, currently focused primarily towards teaching children how to

read the Quran and Islamic Studies, and for those not able to attend

the full time Darul Uloom school, a Quran hifz class.

ii. Darul Uloom Islamic High School, a full-time secondary school for

training the next generation of Muslim ‘alims, scholars and leaders,

living in a modern multi-cultural society.

iii. Adult education programmes, such as the various weekly Dars of the

Quran and Hadeeth sessions, various lecture programmes for the

community and so on also from this year JMIC Raheem Academy is

providing adult Quran and Islamic Studies and Arabic language.

Raheem Academy Evening Madrasah

Darul Uloom Islamic High School & College

Alhamdulillaah Darul Uloom Islamic High School is currently meeting all the

independent school standards. New evidence is continually added to the ‘standards’

in various folders.

Alhamdulillaah the number of students completing the memorisation of the Noble

Qur’an every year is increasing according to expectation. There is now consistency

in the duration our students are completing the memorisation of the Noble Qur’an.

Our prediction according to current data suggests we will have eight students

completing their Hifz during the next academic year (2018-19) Inshaa Allaah. This

should, if Hifz targets are met, increase to 15 students the following year (2019-20)

Inshaa Allaah.

Trips and visits 2017-18

Throughout the year students have gone on a wide range of trips and visits designed

to support the development of the ‘whole student’. All trips and visits support the

school’s promotion of SMSC. All trips are vigorously risk assessed and all outside

visitors are vetted according to our ‘External Speakers’ policy, which has been

described as thorough by the UK Charity Commission. This policy was also looked at

favourably by Ofsted.

Adult Education

This year, there have been significant changes in various adult education

programs held by the centre. Alongside the continuous weekly Dars and

Tafseer sessions as previous years, we now hold Weekly Quranic Arabic

classes and Arabic language classes. We are also looking at broadening the

adult education further. We will be looking at providing online courses and

other courses in the coming year/s Inshaa Allah.

JMIC PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

Al-Miraj Social Enterprise Project

Al Miraj Banqueting Suite has resumed its operations from March 24, 2018 after 8

months closed down due to the collapsed ceiling on 20th July 2017. Due to this

incident we have lost 112 booked functions and we couldn’t take bookings in our

normal flow. By the grace of almighty Allah (SWT) and hard work of JMIC & Al Miraj

management, we have managed to resume business as usual at Al Miraj Banqueting

Suite.

Present situation:

Renovation Work: After evaluating quotations from a few builders, Mr Chris Eves

from Up2d8 Exhibition & Events Ltd was appointed for the renovation work. The

renovation work has been divided into two phases, phase 1 and phase 2. Due to

financial constraints and booking dateline we had to concentrate on phase 1.

Alhamdulillah with the help of Allah (SWT) and the support of the management,

community and builders we have managed to complete phase 1 within our

timeframe. The cost of completing the first phase is around £250,000.00. Once the

insurance claim is sorted, and we a payment, we will then start phase 2.

Bookings: After the incident all the bookings until the end of March 2018 has been

cancelled and the venue management have been told to start taking bookings from

the end of March 2018. Since the reopening, we have been receiving a good number

of bookings; this is due to our commitment towards our customers in terms of

providing great customer services. After the incident we swiftly refunded money to

our customers for cancelled bookings and provided alternative arrangements for

them, this has also had a significant impact on bringing our customers back to Al

Miraj Banqueting.

Dealing with authority: Since the incident day, we have been working closely with

all the emergency agencies and regulatory bodies including Health and Safety

Executives, Birmingham City Council, Building regulations authority & fire services.

We have taken all the steps according to the supervision and direction of relevant

authorities.

P a g e 28 o f 4 8

Insurance Claim: Harris Balcombe is working as an insurance claim consultant for

us. They hired Edwin Coe LLP as the litigation solicitor to litigate on our behalf for

the claim. At present our accounts are being finalised to submit for our insurance

claim. We are expecting a settlement to be made soon.

Plan for Future Development:

Venue Development: We foresee to carry on with our development process, within

the next two years we endeavour to start Phase 2 of the renovation work for which

we will heavily rely on a settlement payment from our insurance claim. We also have

plans to put up an outside canopy to make the venue more attractive externally.

Marketing & Promotion: We are conducting marketing & promotional activities

through the social media. We have active presence on major social media platforms

such as Facebook, Instagram, Google+ & YouTube. In future we will increase our

engagement with social media.

Public Relations: Public relations could play significant role to make our venue

more vibrant and popular. We can create opinion leaders who may also promote our

venue.

Revenue opportunity form Lloyds Street Flat:

Our Lloyds street property is being unused for long time but this could be a great

source of revenue for us. If we can renovate this property and rent this out, then we

can generate around £25,000.00 per year. We need to take prompt action to deal

with this.

JMIC MASTER PLAN

As with the past few years, the Centre has unfortunately had to prioritise its

efforts and resources amongst the different challenges that have come up this

year. As such, unfortunately this meant that the JMIC Master Plan project was

yet again put temporarily on hold. Inshaa Allah, this should be kick-started

again in 2019 barring any unforeseen challenges.

Birmingham Muslim Cemetery

There has been no further work in this regard during 2017/18 due to resource

constraints. In the past, we have sincerely tried to establish a Birmingham

Muslim Cemetery. Unfortunately North Warwickshire Council has still not give

permission for this. As such, we have reapplied in small scale unfortunately

we are still waiting for a response from the Council.

Amanah Project Fund

The Amanah Project Fund has passed another steady year, and facilitating

temporary cash flow needs of the Trust. Full details of the Amanah Project

Fund’s income and expenditures are listed in the finance report. We have also

managed to reduce the Amanah creditors from Oct 2017 340 accounts to 140

accounts and inshaa Allah in the next one year we are anticipating to reduce

that even further by at least 50 creditors.

JMIC Office Report

Yet another testing year with constant demand from the different departments

of JMIC, the administration team remained strong, focused and determined

and for the most part, Alhamdulillah, we managed to keep on top of the main

issues.

By the mercy of Allah (SWT) the JMIC office team has this year dealt with

matters arising from various changes including Al-Miraj incident, insurance

claim and renovation issues and the hurdles of overseeing renovation works

carried out at Darul Uloom and Jamia section. In addition, the team has

continued to manage the day to day affairs of the various services the centre

provides. It has again been a very strenuous year. Alhamduilliah, with the

support and supervision of the President and CM Members, the combined

effort and diligence of both the office and the Darul Uloom reception and the

administration team have all come together to support each other as much as

possible.

Nevertheless, there have been many short-comings and areas that could

have been done better, had there been sufficient resources. The Centre is

currently operating on a skeleton team and in order to avoid going backwards,

will most definitely have to invest in further manpower in the coming year.

COMMITTEES AND FORUMS

Committee of Volunteers for Development (CVD)

Alhamdulillah, The CVD team has continued its support towards the JMIC and

continuously aims to improve the centre whilst attending to all Musalli needs.

CVD has managed to increase their activities. This year CVD has managed to

increase its good number of manpower. Since last year, the CVD has been

operating from an office in JMIC and are greatly involved with all aspects of

JMIC. They have thus become the first line of communication for Musallis of

JMIC. The activities and the operational methods are summarised below:

Friday Jum’ah activities

The team coordinates Friday Jumu’ah activities on a regular basis. These

include collecting donations inside the Masjid, maintain discipline and guide

Musalli whilst they are leaving the Masjid, attending to the car park, directing

Musalli inside and ensuring all spaces are utilised, etc. This year, has been

20-25 members of CVD who participate in these roles every Friday.

Shab-e-barat and Shab-e-qadr

CVD members voluntarily spend the whole night during events such Shab-e-

barat and Shab-e-qadr. They participate during these nights alongside other

Musali for collecting donations and serving food for Suhoor. This year

approximately 40 CVD members participated on this occasion. CVD arranged

food for Suhur for this year Shabe-e-Qadr all Musallis and will continue to

provide food for future insha Allah.

Eid Day

Alhamdullillah, JMIC once again managed to organise an outdoor open-air

Eid Jamaahs in the Centre car parks and playgrounds, accommodating both

male and female visitors. The CVD team organises all aspects of the day from

Fajr Salah until the last Jamaat of the day. Main area of work during this day

involves preparing Eidgah for both male and female, arrange sound systems,

car park attendance, collecting donations, directing Musalli and ensuring all

P a g e 35 o f 4 8

spaces are utilised. Again, approximately 40 CVD members operated during

these joyous and auspicious days.

Ramadhan

During the month of Ramadan, the CVD members also assisted by

supervising children inside the Masjid and by monitoring and getting involved

with other activities.

Visit my Mosque Programme

JMIC organised a 2nd "Visit my Mosque" programme, opening its doors to

members of other faiths and non-faiths to help show them what real Islam and

mosques are about. The CVD team helped throughout this event including

welcoming visitors, informing them on the Centre activities and providing

refreshments. Alhamdulillah we got wonderful response from the community

of other faiths and non faiths.

Box Collection

Donation Boxes are allocated to local shops and businesses. CVD members

are allocated into groups to collect donation boxes regularly.

Cleaning Masjid

CVD members are engaged to clean inside and outside the Masjid including

Ablution area. CVD also involve litter picking from surrounding JMIC. About

15 CVD members regularly participate in this event on regular basis.

Fundraising Committee

The Fund Raising Committee (FRC) plays a key role in supporting with the

annual fund raising campaign for JMIC. The FRC comprises of JMIC

trustees, CVD volunteers and representatives from the Business Forum.

P a g e 36 o f 4 8

Last year, the committee identified some recommendations to help reduce

costs at the Centre. Some of these have been implemented, whilst others are

still pending due to resourcing and time restrictions. These will be carried

forward to next year Inshaa Allah.

Alhamdulilah the committee also organised a number of fundraising functions

throughout the year, and through these have received commitment for

approximately £60,000.00 plus of donations:

Seerah Conference Appeal: We organised a seerah conference event,

in which our chief guests was Sheikh Abdul Qayyum sahib. During the

event we made general fundraising appeal and we received very good

response from the participants.

Ramadan Jumma appeal for utility: During this Ramadan we have

appealed to our Musallis to participate on our utility expenses.

Alhamdulillah we got great response from our Musallis and community

members.

Grand Iftar: We have organised grand iftar party at Al Miraj Banqueting

suite during this Ramadan. Over 800 people had participated at that

Iftar party.

Fundraising through unique receipt book: We have distributed unique

receipt books to our trustees and our CVD members. Alhamduilillah we

have collected good amount through our trustees and CVD members’

efforts.

Media Committee

This year we have not had any major incidents to involve the media,

however we did invite the media to our following events; Seerah

Conference, Mosque Open Day and Ramadhan Grand Iftar.

Professional and Business Forum (PBF)

Unfortunately this year the Council of Management was not able to spend as

much time with the Professional and Business Forum (PBF) as it would have

liked. As such, this is an area that is a priority for the CM to foster for next

year Inshaa Allah.

Key JMIC Public Events

Seerah conference

Alhamdullilah by the grace of Allah it was a huge success. With high profile speakers

as guests we manage to attract good numbers of peoples. The programme had two

main sessions, afternoon session was for Bengali speaking audience and evening

session was in English. The most attractive part of the conference was the children

competition. It was a programme for the youth of our community and we did address

the challenges our youth face and the direction they need.

Mosque open day

It was a great success too. This year we managed to attract more non muslim

guests. It will go a long way to improve our image as an institution. Although we did

mosque open day before, never before we’ve been very successful as this. We have

about 50 non-Muslim guests attending the open day. As an organisation everyone

was involved and contributing to its success. It will go away a long way to face the

challenge such as islamophobia, racism and bigotry that we face in these days.

Everyone felt the need to have this kind of programme more and more.

Dawah conference

Alhamdullilah we managed to connect with the local community. Once again we had

good attendance in terms of numbers and the key message of the conference was

the need to serve and contribute to the wider community. And as a muslim

community our purpose of existance is to work for the betterment of humanity.

P a g e 38 o f 4 8

Welcoming Ramadhan

It was arranged to raise awareness for the blessed month so that the community

could make better preparations itself. We invited a renowned scholar as a chief

guest and people appreciated that. And it was a great success in terms of the

message we delivered and the attendance we had. We also raised good amount of

money for the masjid itself.

Iftaar gathering

As usual it was a great spiritual occasion. One of the biggest iftaar gathering we

have held. Approximately 500 people attended. It was a huge occasion in terms of

community coming together.

Night programme

The aim and objective of the night programme was to raise funds for the Al Miraaj

renovation. Alhamdullilah we had atleast 300 people attending and we also managed

to raise more than £100,000 as Qard hasana for Al Miraj renovation. It was a great

occasion to see so many people attending the masjid.

Interfaith seminar

Once again great occasion with most of the major faith representative coming

together to discuss the challenging issues of our time.

Parenting course

We had professional trainer and expert of the subject Dr. Abdul Bari as a guest.

Once again community response was great. A good number of brothers and sisters

attended and everyone felt the need to have such training programme regularly.

People truly appreciated mosque committee for organising such a wonderful event.
